  1. This was on first page of thread. Bold and underlined added by me. I comprehend fine, thanks for asking. I'm not the one putting words in anyone's mouth, and I was conversing fine until you and Russ fired up whatever it is again. You also ranted earlier how you don't care what happens to the hobby after you're dead. I never saw that raised as an issue. Nobody here has slept more than 7-8 hours a night worry about what happens when you're gone. Opinions aren't mine to judge. As a MODERATOR, you should understand that. Oh gawd, now you'll start about the thankless job, you want it, .... I can't put you on ignore, I see you go off on rants about little boxes, stuff that YOU don't like, so why does ANYONE like it? You started up the same saw from page one despite many others moving on. Posts were discussing how some displays brought guys in that didn't know models were still a thing, Some pretty funny washing machine and fridgehenge jokes in here too. I even made those meme's for the thread. 3D modeled 'em. You and Russ enjoy.
  2. Truly amazes me that Harry, Russ, and others insist the thread is about FORCING anyone to try modeling, or saying modeling MUST be passed on. I guess you can't read, Harry, as I don't see that in there. As unhappy as some seem, sharing a hobby that brings "less unhappiness" must be an awful thought. Yet you post builts all the time, hence sharing the hobby. Disliking kids is a preference, but I guess sharing the hobby with other unaware but possibly interested adults is passing the hobby along, or at least the opportunity to derive pleasure from it as we do. So it's not just a kid thing.
  3. That Miller is killer. Hard to convince people who consider smart phones and video games (some of the most amazing computer modeling of cars out there, see Forza 6) as evil incarnate to accept something new, alone learn it. The enmity against the new, the people that demand better, the "youth" is pretty appalling around here sometimes. There are few younger participants here, and truly miniscule international participants, despite pretty amazing communities worldwide. I've been on an exotic car board since 2003, 10k posts, and it has huge cross-generational, international participation, and a surprisingly small owner percentage. Just enthusiasts. Actually a great model subforum, a few guys here are over there too. Technology is embraced there, and on the couple Asian and European boards I've visited. Ali said it best, RIP Champ. Amazing role model and human.
  4. If you really want to inspire people, build washerhenge. Fridgehenge is so last week. On the upside, not a lot of kids seem to play there repeatedly Maybe an interactive washer challenge race? Longest distance walked for an unbalanced load?? Wow, the hidden dangers of showing kids modeling.
  5. Bill, now I need a new keyboard. But collecting old washers is a thing, and the new HE washers suck so I'm thinking restomod solar belt-drive baby. Exposing kids and even other adults, vets, bored retirees, whatever, is just a human thing. Just time to hang out and talk, even if they just watch. Broaden horizons and maybe make both people's lives better. Kinda like a model meet with better hygiene, or a board without electrons. OMG Joe, he's on the LAWN!!!
  6. We ain't showin' you no model cars neither, Bill. #getoffmylawn #onlyboatsdrift #videogames#devilsmacrame #flipphones4evah
  7. Seems like you and Harry are uptight about it. Whatever. Bringing kid into hobby isn't about forcing a kid to build models, that's idiotic. Sharing the hobby with someone is the point. But, some people are just too self-centered to do that, yet want models of a slagged out Dart 4-dr like uncle Dilweed had. It's a business we patronize. We must enjoy it, so if one is capable of sharing that with someone, cool. But if we don't try to keep someone around that likes this stuff, there won't be any new stuff. I'm fine if a new kit never comes out. But it is an issue. Not thinking people either care, or understand I guess.
  8. Props to the R8 driver. Only wimps lift.
  9. Why? Because you're OLD. It's a BUSINESS, that sells HOBBY ITEMS. People here have feeding frenzy over 40% off coupons and discounts at whatever stores, or rant over demise of hobby shops (or tiny little boxes). THOSE ARE BUSINESSES. Dead or carrying models as incidentals. I don't care what your hobbies are, that's not the point. Only idiots invest in making items for a shrinking market. Sales and profits need to GROW. Personally, I know a lot of kids that love cars, and models of 30-50 year old (80-100year old in some cases) lame American cars have exactly ZERO interest to them. Go to a car show with young kids at it, not "Kruze Nite" Drifting. Autocross/Protouring. Cars with laptops mounted to dash for tunes and combustion/boost/exhaust parameters, not a stupid tach screwed onto the column. Imports, not with fart cans, but real swaps. 24hrs of Lemons. Serious track days at real racetracks. FWD drag racing. No surprise all the model companies have had multiple owners. At least the current crew are trying despite the myopic crew here. If you run a business, employ people, understand markets, and how life is not what it was 5 years ago, alone 30 years ago, you know it's a daily race. If you are complacent, selling to same audience, NOTHING is forever. Now #getoffmylawn
  10. Nice build. Dimensions a bit clunky, and it doesn't have doglegs or top boot. But it's only one available. I had one, sold it. Arii tend to be either ok, or super crude. This is best American car they've done imo.
  11. Name them please. If that's an unreliable option, well, give us a rhyming hint. At this point I'd guess your tires and money are ghosts. Lousy service and robbery deserves something as well as great service/ Add to the awesome service list: Fernando Pinto in Portugal; Model Car World; Aardvaark; and Bandit.
  12. Sadly no, it's really really really dark blue, which is stunning. Was when new. The Dyer car was blue from shortly after new. None were black as I recall. Most Rosso Cina. Here's a free, but decent reference for those of you without some of the great books. HTH. http://www.barchetta.cc/All.Ferraris/by-serial-number/ferrari-by-serial-number/model-index-60-64/model-summary/250-gto-index/index.html
  13. Here's a photo of it as raced recently. The hood scoops remain, added shortly after delivery. It's grown some very odd indicators since restoration, they weren't there in the above photo. I included photo of 3223 for ref, as it was "first" GTO. The "hard points" are nearly identical, the front fenders in particular on both photos of 3589 and 3223. The roof on the restored 3589 looks flatter as the chrome on the surround is missing or covered. Makes huge difference. Hard upper line where rear fender meets roof and forward at door is identical, it's the outboard part of rear fender that gets goobered up in rebuilds, and the nose. 3589's nose appears intact too. GTO's didn't have rear spoilers molded in until later. Pourret/Bluemel can give far more details than I. Great book, glad you guys have them. They're getting scarce. Any excuse to post a GTO
  14. Actually, no, they're not. The squared off fender openings seen in the Gunze/ recent G-Revell issue are not how these cars were made. They used body bucks to form the panels, but wheel opening shape was consistently round like the Italeri and the Fujimi. I've seen 26 together at one time, and other than some flared lips (still a round radius, they're all the same within a few mm on the originals. What happened after they were repaired is different story. Pourret's GTO book also documents it well. Also, the red used on most of the GTO's was Rosso Cino, Chinese red, not Rosso Corsa. Nice builds, nice stash.
  15. Still think it is silly to have regular pickups in with big trucks and commercial. I like both, but I don't get to truck sub-forum as much. Motorcycles and pickups should be in car forum. Threads get moved instantly, while other stuff lingers. Bring your scooters. They may get shoved in big scale stuff too, but I doubt certain mods like motorcycles, so probably just "Other".
  16. I wanted a model of an Aoshima T-shirt to put in a little model box. Bummer.
  17. I just enjoy multiple posts complaining about little boxes instead of discussing the cool parts like the lights, stands, car-hop trays, safes, etc. that are out there. Harry, start a "Harry doesn't like" thread so we'll all know how stupid we are liking something you don't. The floor lights are neat. I've got a couple but never had a 64 Bird. The "fountains" are odd but neat too. Very 60's autorama. There was a thread about all the animals around here. 8 different ones? Squirrel (could put in a little box?), lizard, mouse,.... Did they have names on instructions? looks like 10+Kat in your bins??
  18. Considering I had no idea what you'd seen, and usually people ask the question before looking, I posted pic. Sorry I wasted my time. You're welcome. Considering I've dealt with Steve, and he backs up other's product even if they don't, and doesn't tolerate poor quality, I think it'll be fine. If you don't trust a picture, you're close enough to go to a show and look yourself. Kit is new, so probably few out there. Looks nicer in some ways than my CMW. Guess you shouldn't buy it unless you touch it first if you worry that much.
  19. Micro car double kit usually brings big money. I scored one on ebay for $35 or so but they go much higher. Weird kit with bodies molded in clear. Nice haul.
  20. For semis, the 1/25 R-M Kenworth and Pete started as snap-tites. Pretty amazing, now available new for $20 or so online. I've got an old Kenworth, and a newer Pete, as I needed some semis to tow race trailers but didn't want to grind to halt with hard to build semi. Here's pics of snap boxes and current issues. Big parts, big model, not too fiddly. The Lambo Diablo that R-M has now was/is a sophisticated snap, as is the 96 Impala SS

  23. I think 15yo is probably too old if it doesn't shine well. I've never heard of a shelf life, but normal customers don't keep a bottle 15yrs Mine is about 6-7yrs and it's fine. Has the 2008 label, not 2011 label Stuff has had about 12 names and repackagings since yours, so here's a gif from another thread here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/8964-using-pledge-floor-care-tile-vinyl-floor-finish-with-future-shine/?page=6 Pledge Floor Care
  24. These are the other 2 of the 3. I have the van, and the new kit looks like it has the goofy arms from it. It shouldn't be too hard to close up the roof for a panel, and I think the pickup would be easy too. No surfboards or tow stuff, but shorty buses were huge back then. Not hard to bash with a Manx or pop a Vair motor in either. Just a silly fun kit that looks cool built. I've heard. I bought my van new in '69, it's not done yet.
  25. Have to get extra one for tires for my Bus. Lettering is awesome. Lug Bug pickup only one I don't have. Love it.
