AMX GT SHOW CAR RESIN KIT
keyser replied to MoonshineAndChrome's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If only there was some way of flagging these threads with mod privileges, to stop more people getting ripped. Guess we should let Gregg know, he doesn't screw around. Pretty pathetic scam. -
Heller 1/24 BMW 328 -- anyone built one?
keyser replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Great kit. Chassis easy, working steering nice. Frame a bit flimsy but supports car fine. Heller 2 piece body is royal pita. But, with care, and internal bracing it molds great. Cowl first then work toward rear end. Hood fits well. Grille is molded in, not very amenable to opening up. Paint and bmf help greatly. Hood straps molded in, but again careful painting works. Interior and trim is easy. I drilled the solid wheels like many of these cars were. Works great. The street version has full windshield frame. The racing version only has 1/2 of the frame, so no stock build from it. Love this kit. Have a few. Proportions and lines dead on, as are most Heller. The tool makers just smoke crack and do weird things breaking down body to mold. -
It seems real modelers are intolerant and condescending to people beneath their skill level. I guess they all started out with lathes and blueprints, and never use silly plastic parts from a lowly kit. Oh to be so gifted. We're all in awe. Do you guys have your own forum? By the way, how much mentoring do you crafting gods do? Plenty of how-to vids on YouTube? Own a smart phone and deodorant? Sincerely, A lowly assembler/kitbasher/some part maker/bottom-feeder

I've Gone eBay Crazy!
keyser replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool score. Great series of cars, I remember the thread. Series bigger than I remembered, and I have a bunch. 308 is really nice too. -
Just some folks more literal than others, and chemistry not always a strong suit. We know a fizzy mess, and Dawn may just goo it up, but VOC's and other stuff we can't predict will be used needed subtle caution I guess. Rather have unadulterated Tito's to wash away the messes of the mind and cheeks.

Both those wheels are the 4 bolt VW pattern wheels the 4 cylinder cars had. The 914-6's had 5 bolt wheels, usually Fuchs, but some had steelies and caps. I think Mahle gas burners were available too, but uncommon. Looked awesome though. Just had to add this pleasant pic of the Tapiro too.

I didn't study.

Don't forget the air in the bags and boxes. Still, Chipotle and Carnival cruises can trump the morbidity tolls. USA USA

I wouldn't randomly mix vinegar, (acetic acid), with baking soda, or other bases. Won't go well. Dawn, wash, then rinse, then soak, then wash/rinse/dry. Toss in bag with dryer sheets, or Febreeze sheets. If box/instructions bad, do what Tom did with proofs. Can also spray with Febreeze repeating a coat every day or so. Charcoal great as is baking soda but please don't randomly mix stuff. Wash first, then deodorize.

Speaking of News, Any updates on the Moebius 1959 Dodge
keyser replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I've got an original builder that's mint, and a great Modelhaus convertible. But I still want a few. I'm calling 3 weeks before first "buyer beware, lousy detail kit" thread like the one on the '66 Mustang. Pretty funny, a couple guys know better but act like its a crime to re-issue old tools. Old tools should like old tools. -
Probably could use some of the useless Arii C111 bits on that. Amazed nobody did good C111 Benz. But I'll have to dig my Arii out, as it's far closer to Tapiro than C111.

QUESTION: Fujimi Boranni 15" wire wheels
keyser replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Bill, they're nice. Go to swap meet and buy any Fujimi Daytona kit, there's a full set in there and either you can build it with factory mags, or parts rob the rest. Depending on meet, I've seen them for $15-20. If tire/wheel sets cheaper nevermind. -
Even with flares the first red car and factory 914/6 racers had correct rear wheel arch profile rather than kit. Flatter on top, a little more elongated and more vertical.

Love mine. If you forget and leave it on, or it's in sunlight, its not going to cook your work or your house. No annoying buzz from bulb either, and head lots lighter so you can position easier.

Heller Jaguar E Type cabriolet/coupe kits
keyser replied to Mr Stock's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
They're pretty, I've had 1 and been around many others. Not great to drive, pain to work on, rust prone, quirky, and XKD and XKSS more brutal and better race cars. But compared to everything else available then, there is no comparison. That they were incredibly reasonably priced and available, with Dunlop discs, full independent suspension, and a great motor was just added value. -
That's the one that inspired me to put parts together and put in project pile. I'm running a bit behind but it was cool. Couldn't find pic of actual model, wish I could.

Heller Jaguar E Type cabriolet/coupe kits
keyser replied to Mr Stock's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Matt, I agree with the issues completely. Heller really did nice job on coupe and roadster both. The Gunze roadster is nice, rear edge of wheelwell needs tweaking, but minor. Heller's are quite underated, and always reasonable to buy at shows. eBay is ridiculous on them usually. Still have a 67 S1 roadster in family since new, Opalescent Blue. Had a flat-floor 61 coupe in white/red a very long time ago. Dumdum sold it. -
Dave, always liked Thomas V's site. Great articles. Here's link to original article http://www.bonediggers.com/2-3/alakart/alakart.html Deora article amongst others really detailed reference. If it's any consolation, Bill, I've got a few originals and never noticed the Deuce shell either, now I have to go look. Same build-up fetish as you. Sidepipes somewhat hard to come by though. I'm glad to get it back. Ala Tub and Ala Tudor projects need bits. Here's Ira Dahm's pickup cab version, and a Brad Leisure sketch of a tub. Pretty fun stuff. Speedwagon or woody bash could be neat too. AMT body pretty decent for 50+ years ago.

Modelhaus email response
keyser replied to khier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don's wife Carol did most of the email and other stuff for them. The writing on the bags of parts you get is hers. Losing her son was very hard on both of them, but she's had tougher time. Not excuse. Regular turn around time was usually 6 weeks. -
Can't believe Mustang owner only guy to notice the 16 Camaro. I'm just happy it's within a year of 1:1 release.

Sweet, Ferguson still listed, Vivastella back for nice street rod, new vans, and best yet, 1/72 707 Air France. Just bought one sealed off ebay for $59, reissue should be similar. Great kit. Agree, nice but expensive year.
