  1. I found this built-up ITC '56 Lincoln years ago and just had to have it.....but what to do with it? Built out of the box it looks better than a Palmer kit, but that's about it. A decent factory-stock build is pretty much impossible, but I figured if I could chop (or replace) the top it might make a nice curbside custom. Digging through the parts department, I found a Monogram '59 Cadillac windshield frame and a cast-off AMT '57 Ford roof that looked so right that I had to take the plunge. Just for fun I decided to try a Winfield-inspired paint job using Testors Boyds enamels I've had sitting around for years. It's far from perfect; the paint is a little uneven in spots, I didn't bother installing w/s wipers, vent windows etc, but it looks good on the shelf.
  2. The console in the middle of the pic with the molded-on shift boot is from the MPC '68 Barracuda (maybe in the '67-'69 Cudas too?) The yellow triangular piece at the bottom right looks very familiar.....I'm thinking a custom window filler for an MPC '68-69 Charger? The dash at the bottom is from a later B-body Mopar (Roscoe's car etc)

  4. Not often seen or very well-known, I've always liked the original AMT Mini-Trophy boxes. Replicating a couple of these renderings in 1/25 scale is on my to-do list, although it might never happen.

I think the source of your confusion is the fact that although this kit is a re-issue of the Greenwood car, it will also contain the 5-spoke mags from the Accelerator issue as well as seen in Steve's pic of the parts layout. Here is a pic of the mags on a built-up Accelerator.....no, it's not real pretty; I was just a kid when I built it.
  7. The square custom grille (73 Cougar?) is from the AMT '65 Lincoln hardtop (maybe the convertible too?)
  8. Second piece from the top in your group pic looks like the custom front pan for the MPC '74 Duster (mine isn't nearby to verify though).

  11. Those Dayton laced wheels must be the ones that I'm thinking were the stock-ish wheels on the annual; I seem to recall seeing them somewhere else too.....The T.H.E. Cat maybe? The Acelerator had the open wheels as well.
  12. The two pair of 5-spoke mags in the pic were used in the Accelertor (fronts to the left, rears to the right). The "stock" version of the Accelerator utilized Kelsey Magstar wheels as found in a few AMT Ford kits of that era. I'm not sure exactly what the '68 annual contained in regard to wheels. I know the stock version had wheels the looked like deep-dish versions of C2 alloys.
  13. Yes; the later 1/20 scale stuff was very well done, and the subject matter was good.......too bad about the scale.
  14. I've wanted to do something with this ITC '56 Lincoln for years. I finally found some parts in the stash that kinda match my vision.
  15. Interesting that you mention the stance. When that model was built the guys at Round2 were going for a certain look, and they were very particular about the stance of the finished model. Several different tire/height combos were test-fitted /photographed and bounced back and forth until they decided the look was right (two of the many test pics are below). Not a really interesting story, but it's good to hear that all of the effort is noticed.

  18. Thanks, Steve. The color is Tamiya TS-54 out of the can, cleared with Testors Wet Look clear. I thought the Cragar GT's were perfect for the truck; they came from the MPC Coronets I also bought back in '68/69.
  19. I've had this MPC '68 Chev cab kicking around for years; the remains of a tow truck version I built when it was new. Combining the vintage cab with an AMT GMC stepside body was on the to-do list. That changed when my name popped up on the recent Racer's Wedge decal sheet (a much-appreciated compliment BTW). I had a couple of decal sheets they sent me as well as a Racer's Wedge test shot I "test-built" for them a few months ago. I thought it would be cool to build myself a shop truck, but the test shot was missing the a couple of interior pieces, so the '68 cab was put to good use. I guess its only fitting that the "Wherry Restorations" shop truck is a partial restoration in itself. Yes, I am planning to touch up the sloppy side marker lights....funny thing, whenever I use Tamiya clear acrylics the camera picks up rough edges that I can't see otherwise.
  20. Re the mounting holes in the body; here's the box art body. No holes required filling, although the small one at the base of the A-pillar wasn't used. I'm not sure if that hole will be present on production kits.
  21. It's a fade paint job using a can of Testors yellow on the molded-in-orange body. Should have adjusted the fit of the hood before I shot it. I might re-do it some day, but part of me wants to preserve it as a childhood memory.
  22. The Greenwood kit had(has) the fender flares molded to the body, the Accelerator did not. The flares eliminated one of the four front fender vents as mentioned above. the Accelerator included the parts to build a "stock" version in the box with the exception of the wheels (Kelsey Magstars). As we all know the stock version had some proportion issues as compared to the MPC and later AMT kits. The chassis was straight out of the '63-'67 annual kits. Here's a built up Accelerator. (Yea, it's a little sloppy, but I was just a kid when I built it).

  24. Yes, they're different, but they're all Johan. MPC produced the 1/20 AMX kits, Revell did a 1/32 Javelin There may be other oddball kits out there, but basically any 1/25 Javelin or AMX kit out there was produced by Johan, including the ones in AMT boxes (I can think of at least four examples of AMT-boxed Johan Javelin/AMX kits off the top of my head).
  25. Yes, I acquired mine under similar conditions; Car Colors were never marketed in Canada. Fortunately I still have a few cans.
