Some more oldies. The AMT brush paint bottles shown were plastic. The last pic shows what can happen if you top them up with lacquer thinner in an attempt to make the semi-solid goo usable (no, it didn't work).

Ever since I acquired this built-up AMT Wild Hoss Bronco years ago I've wanted to dirty it up a bit; something I don't normally do. After looking at some pics of Terry Jessee's work (the Master) I thought I would give it a try. It was primed with Tamiya red primer, followed by AS-15 to simulate the factory tan, then a coat of Testors Glosscoat for a semi-faded look. The paint was later sanded down in spots exposing the primer to represent heavy wear/fading. The original builder got a few glue smudges on the body; some of those were touched up with thinned Testors rust enamel after painting along with a few little nicks and scratches I dug into the body.....now I had chips and dings. The engine/chassis was painted and assembled factory-stock style then treated to a heavy wash of rust paint in some areas and thinned flat black in others (oil seepage etc). The fuel tank was heavily rusted using real rust from a steel wool pad and Testors Dullcoat. The tires were aged in a similar manner using fireplace ash. After final assembly, I dusted the underhood area using crushed/sifted dirt from the garden, sealed with dullcoat. Finally....I "drove" it down a dirt road (Tamiya TS-90).....covering up a lot of my previous weathering (oh well!). I'm not 100% pleased with the end result; it's a bit heavy-handed. but it was fun.

I'm certain that they know exactly what is and what isn't in the tool.

Here are two painted with Tamiya TS-74 clear red. The '60 Olds is over TS-42 light gunmetal and the GTO is over TS-38 gunmetal.

I had this SSP Monogram '30 Model A sitting on the shelf and thought it would be fun to do a custom/rod version similar to the Blue Beetle, '30 Woody etc as Monogram might have done so back in the '60's. With very little modification the SBC from the '55 Chev/Badman fits like a glove, topped off with Little T chrome bits. Rear mags (I think) are from a Boothill Express and the rest is original Blue Beetle parts, with one or two vintage AMT pieces thrown in. Paint is Tamiya TS-10 French Blue; something Monogram might have chosen if it had issued a molded-in-color version of this kit back then. A simple, but fun build. Now the wheels are turning as I look at my old '30 Phaetons.

They're both beautiful. The young punk version is cool, but to me the green (aqua?) one is perfect

Beautiful! Can't recall ever seeing one looking as good as yours. It's refreshing to read an honest appraisal of an old less-than-perfect kit from someone who isn't afraid to put a little effort into building it. I'm sooo tired of the "this kit is junk/MPC is junk" comments out there, most of which are accompanied by a pic of the one I built for Round2 years ago (the blue box art kit...yes, I forgot to remove the "Pontiac" lettering from the taillight panel...it was a quickie build). Like you, I just worked around the flaws; it's not that hard. All of the complainers out there should take a look at yours.

One other idea; I had a Craftsman mower that started doing that. I backed the gas cap out about 1/2 turn and it ran like a dream. I figured the vent was clogged.

I would guess a 70-72 Chevelle SS minus cowl induction (no trap door) Or possibly a '72 Heavy Chevy

The RC2 years weren't kind to the AMT/MPC brands or the tooling. Consider this when wondering why some 90's-era AMT/MPC kits haven't been reissued by Round2

Recent discussion in another thread re these kits inspired me to dig these pics out. I'm the original owner of the '69. I disassembled and restored it 30-some years ago. I purchased the Superfly in a collection of built-ups. When I picked up a can of Testors Electric Pink lacquer at my LHS I figured it was made for this kit so I restored it as a fun, off-the-wall project. The wheels and hood ornament are from the parts box. As discussed in the other thread, I think the stock GP would be a good re-issue subject, although coming up with any marketable building variations aside from factory stock might be tough, which doesn't help it's case. A reissue of the Superfly?......no (just my opinion).

The MPC C2 Vettes have a lot going for them, but to me AMT kits look more accurate. My only beef with the MPC body is the elongated front wheel openings. The separate lower front pan can be a bit fiddly to fit properly as well; especially on the later '67 reissues as the tooling got tired. The MPC still looks good on the shelf though.

You just "threw it together"? Could have fooled me....VERY clean build! I guess in some hands it's junk, in others it's a jewel.
