This is just ridiculous!
Rob Hall replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
From what I've read, carmakers today offer a lot of cabin electronics as that is what the market (esp. younger buyers) demands. I can understand that, I usually like my cars loaded, and I suspect very few people today would buy cars as stripped down as were once offered...a car maker wouldn't sell very many cars if they were equipped with manual windows, manual seats, AM radio, etc. -

IIRC, that was a feature added in '11 when the Coyote 5.0 came out.. -
There were actually 4 wrong way crashes here that week...several fatalities. Lots of bad drivers in this state...

No, but a Leaf w/ a Renault F1 engine sound (since Renault owns a controlling stake in Nissan). How about a Fiat 500 w/a HEMI sound? -

Well, it does have a 3cyl engine w/ an electric motor..probably not that impressive sounding natively. I wonder if they pipe in the engine sound from an M5.. -
1/25 AMT "Northwind" '62 Chevy Bel Air Super Stock
Rob Hall replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, it shows an illustration of a 1:1 car with what appears to be chrome reverse wheels on the top. Is there a photo of an actual model w/ such wheels on the box sides? Content doesn't always match illustrations. -
is this resin Conversion a good kit? 78 LTD
Rob Hall replied to English Jules's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Nope..just a subject I like...big '70s Fords...though my folks did have big Mercurys and Lincolns back then. -
Yes..such is how it is on the internet...stuff keeps repeating over and over again. What's old is new again. Ad infinitum...kind of like the model car biz w/ reissues..

Believe it or not, there are still some merchants that only take cash..there are a couple restaurants that I go to once a month or so that are cash only. The food trucks around here now are taking cards, I've noticed though (using Square)... And I pay my yard service in cash. But I agree on the debit card--I use that for most purchases. I try and avoid checks also--only write one per month to the pool service, every other bill I pay online. I do like to carry a bit of cash for dining out at some places, though--easier to tip the parking valet in cash.

is this resin Conversion a good kit? 78 LTD
Rob Hall replied to English Jules's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
It's a sweet kit..it's in my 'to build' closet. Want to build it something like this: -
No kit was made of that generation Explorer..no diecast either that I've seen. You are correct about the previous generation, AMT did the '96-97 in Limited trim, and there were a couple in 1/20th by Lindberg also.

LoL...it must be someone named Harry but I don't recognize him.

Yes...think how different the dissemination of information, news, etc was just 30 years ago than today. When I was a teenager back then, I read a print newspaper, watched the CBS evening news everyday (CNN was just starting to ramp up), went to libraries and bookstores, had print magazine subscriptions that I looked forward to each month. Very different environment from today where I always have a laptop, tablet or smartphone w/ access to the internet and all the news, information, etc of the world a few clicks away...

Revell Ed Roth 57 Bel Air - Suddenly It's 1963!
Rob Hall replied to Karl LaFong's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Not quite accurate..Revell did a '57 Bel Air 2dr sedan. The '57 Bel Air ht they did is a snap kit. -
Interesting...I just got my digital issue of Automobile a couple days ago, along w/ Car & Driver and Road & Track. I read them on my Kindle Fire HD tablet. I also get digital subcriptions to Scale Auto and the Hemmings magazines. The only car magazines I still get in print are Collectible Automobile, F1 Racing, and Motorsport.

I found good ones... found them through the guy that did the stone work on my back patio, also found tree trimmers for cleaning the tops of the palm trees that way also. This crew has been very reliable the last 2 years, they also do 3 other yards on my street...and they have a clean, good condition '05-ish Dodge Ram truck, not a worn out truck like the unreliable ones have...

Google Self-Driving Car..
Rob Hall replied to DrGlueblob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Full electrics aren't yet really practical for long road trips, but they do seem to work as around town commuter cars..at a client I worked at last year, they had a bank of chargers in the parking garage--there was always a mix of full electrics (Teslas, Leafs) and plugin hybrids (Volts, Priuses, a Fusion, etc) plugged in during the work day..that use case makes sense--drive to work, plugin and charge for a few hours, then head home. -
Good deal..I pay my yard guys $60 every two weeks for my relatively small front and back yard and to maintain the bushes and trees...they do a good job, definitely worth it as I have no interest in any outdoor labor in the disgusting Phoenix summer season that is starting..

Am I crazy? (re: '69 Camaro Snap-tite)
Rob Hall replied to Brett Barrow's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes..there was a Camaro snap tite w/ the SS hood. But I can't recall if had the standard grille or not. Molded in red, I've got one in storage. -
Revell Ed Roth 57 Bel Air - Suddenly It's 1963!

I think this kit has a lot of parts in common w/ the Revell '57 Nomad. -
Google Self-Driving Car..
Rob Hall replied to DrGlueblob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
First thing I thought of with self-driving cars was the Johnny Cab from 'Total Recall'..
