  1. Or hitting mid 40s...when I was in high school in the mid '80s I knew kids whose folks had them..
  2. 99 here yesterday, supposed to be 103 today and 104 Saturday. Typical Phoenix spring weather, though..same old, same old..
  3. The sound of a 5.0 Fox Mustang hooked me as a teenager when I got my '87, before that when I heard a police LX 5.0 up close in '85-86. Also enjoyed the sound of my Dad's '69 Mustang (351W), my brother's '65 GTO, '68 Camaro SS 396, '74 Firebird 400.. The cars I've had since the 5.0 have been more of the smoother, quieter sounding variety..BMW E36 M3, Cadillac STS, etc.. Perhaps the most incredible startup and rev sounds I've heard was when I was standing next to a '66 Ford GT40 427 starting up at the Copper State 1000 start a few years ago, and Michael Schumacher's '01 Ferrari F1 car starting up (I was standing about 2 feet away when it was started outside at Barrett-Jackson this past January..)
  4. I'd post pics of mine, but they are all boxed up and in storage. I've got the regular '77 Volare, the '77 Road Runner, the '79 Road Runner, and the '80...only missing the '78 annual.
  5. I'm not sure why people are questioning if the kits exist, they do..it's pretty easy to google 'MPC '78 Road Runner' and MPC '79 'Road Runner' and see pics of the box art, and the '80 kit box art is shown in my post above..
  6. Mmmm...tasty. I've got a few really good Indian restaurants close to my office and home. May have to go out for a curry tonite.
  7. The Chevy/GMCs have been kitted before, though..the Fords of the '67-72 generation have never been kitted.
  8. That's pretty cool..
  9. Wrong. per Wikipedia: 1976–1980: F-body Trim Package In 1976 the Road Runner name was switched to the 2-door model of the replacement for the compact A-body Valiant/Duster series. This car, based on the new F platform, would be known as "Volaré". The new Road Runner was little more than a trim and graphics package; however, many suspension parts were borrowed from the police packages. A 360 CID engine was offered as an option (but only with a two barrel carb for 1976-'77 and single exhaust) to the standard 318 V8, but only paired with the 3-speed automatic transmission. Rated at 160 hp (119 kW), the F platform's best 1/4 mile times would be just inside 16-seconds at 88 mph (142 km/h). Although no comparison to the earlier stormers, the 360 powered models were respectable performers in their time. By 1978 and thru to 1980 the 360 was offered with a four-barrel carb and, for 1980, dual exhaust, bringing power up to 195 hp (145 kW). However, performance continued to suffer, and by 1979 the 225 CID "Slant 6" six-cylinder became standard. The Road Runner continued as part of the Volaré line until its discontinuation in 1980.
  10. The '80 kit is a Volare...don't recall if it has the Road Runner decals or not. From '76-80 the Road Runner was a decal package on the Volare is my understanding... I have the '80 kit also--got it off eBay a few months ago. it's a typical MPC kit of the era w/ garish box art, wild decals, large optional wheels and tires. Mine was built pretty well, w/ the t-tops opened up and the fender flares added..built similar to the box art.
  11. Funky...googling turned up some more..
  12. I've seen those..pretty nice. My family's place in E. Ohio has 1860s vintage 'carriage houses' that were later repurposed as two car (end to end) garages...they have hinged swing out doors...which aren't any fun to deal w/ in the winter, as you have to get out to open them. I'm not interested in garage doors that don't work w/ HomeLink...
  13. Never had a problem w/ a garage door opener, but I've had to have a garage door repaired. Same door--twice in the same year I damaged the garage door at my condo in Colorado Springs in '00---first backed my Bronco through it late one night, 2nd time a few months later drove my then new Jeep in with ski racks on top and didn't let the door get up all the way...
  14. My grandfather drove Packards, not sure how far back, but he had a late '30s one, an early '40s one (a '41 coupe that my parents took on their honeymoon in '48), a '49 and a '55 I believe.. I've seen photos of them long ago...he was driving a '69 AMC Rebel when I knew him in the '70s as a kid..
  15. You're welcome..it was a great event, must have been at least 1/2 dozen 917s there..a memorable moment was seeing a Gulf 917k starting up and drive off..they are incredible in person. Here is another in Martini livery..
  16. I do shop at my LHS occasionally, but usually their items are within $5 of the online price for regular Round 2 or Revell releases, so it's no big deal..but I wouldn't pay a $25 premium for local.. I do love shopping online, though..so easy, just a few clicks..
  17. Sharp build...very similar to the #4 car I saw at Rennsport Reunion a few years ago..
  18. That's cool... I always thought the AMT 'Black Force' custom could have made a good basis for a '40s Batmobile. I recall reading Batman comics and watching a tv animated show in the late '70s, can't recall what the car looked like then, though.
  19. Those that don't know any better, I guess...
  20. This 1925 Packard looks similar in the wheels, grille, hood, lights, bumper...
  21. I never really got into turntables, though I bought one about 10 years ago..don't use it much, most of my collection is on CDs..I started collecting music as a teenager in the last 80s, right as CDs were becoming popular. I did have cassettes for a while. Though I do occasionally buy vinyl for the album art and limited edition releases from artists I like. As far as PF, I got into them in the mid '80s after the Waters breakup, dug into their back catalog (my older siblings introduced me to Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall).. I especially like A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell--more of a Gilmour fan than a Waters fan, though I like The Final Cut quite a bit. By having two Baby Boomer siblings I got exposed to quite a bit of music of their generation--I love the Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Free, Crosby Stills & Nash and many other '60s-70s artists and bands.. (though there is a lot of music from the '80s-90s I love from my own youth, as well as some of today's artists)
  22. If it was enough to retire on and live well, I'd retire from the corporate rat race (though stay involved w/ the tech industry through open source projects, maybe some angel VC work), stay involved w/ terrier rescue groups, support dog rescue groups, buy/build a spacious beach house w/ plenty of garage space, build a nice little 1:1 car collection, build models, take up amateur road racing, travel more, go to more races. I've always been pretty disciplined financially, don't gamble, don't have addictions beyond eBay so I can see myself handling large amounts of money effectively...just move a bit more upscale..work less, relax more..
  23. The best domestic vendor price I've seen so far is at Diecast Alley...$49.95 + $8.xx shipping.
  24. As a buyer, I leave feedback when I've received the item, regardless of whether the seller leaves feedback. Not sure why I'd wait on the seller to leave feedback first..
