Fujimi announcement and more Aoshima wheels
Rob Hall replied to crispy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A couple items of interest for me, esp. the Lotus 79 and FW14B. I'd love to see a Lotus 97T tooled up (the Model Factory Hiro version is way too $$$ for me). -
A restorable Johan '64 Plymouth Fury convertible arrived today. Has the box, most all the parts..chrome clean, the body has been painted but is very clean, all the trim intact. Needs the windshield frame repaired. Will go nicely w/ my Johan '64 Dodge Polara conv.

Have to glue the wheels in place to keep it from running away... -
AMT 25 T Double kit review with pics
Rob Hall replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The box art shows a pickup box and tailgate for a truck version. Are those parts included? Haven't seen them mentioned. I seem to remember an AMT Model T pickup sometime in the last 20 years or so... -
2005-09 Chevy Kodiak/GMC Topkick
Rob Hall replied to awan's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Those older ones have a totally different cab than the '03-09 models, though. The '93-02 Topkick/Kodiak cab is based on the '88-98 Silverado style cab, while the '03-09 are based on the full size van (Savanna/Express). I'd love to have in 1:25th the 'Ironhide' Topkick from the Transformers movie. -
Those Brookfield LH models are very nice...I got the LHS, Intrepid and Concorde back around '98...too bad they didn't do a Vision.

Went to a swap meet today and bought 3 built up (pretty well done) Tamiya 1:20th F1 cars--Gilles Venellueve Ferrari, Nigel Mansell Ferrari, and the Senna Camel Lotus. I have a few unbuilt 1:20th Tamiyas, slowly getting into F1 modeling, though I've followed the sport for 30+ years.

That's kind of when I guessed it was...one of the earliest w/ a real car on the box that I know of/have is the MPC '71 GTX...love that box art. The oldest w/ photos of the kit that I have are probably some Monograms from the mid '70s, like an issue of the '58 T-bird w a red buildup on the box.
-
As far as I can tell, the roof fits on the body without removing the package shelf, so that's a moot point. As a related theme, when did kits start showing photos of the actual kit and it's parts on the box art instead of illustrations? It seems like it was sometime in the '70s, as I have kits from childhood from the late '70s that have photos and some that have illustrations..
-
Instead of disclaimers, it's better to have accurate box art. Don't show anything on the built kit on the box art that's not included with the kit. Simple.
-
Nice...is that the old Lindberg kit? I've never seen one of those built..sharp.
-
Definitely looking forward to getting one of these...love those '70s land yachts. Another one of the same year I'd love to see is the '76 Buick Electra coupe...had a buddy in high school that had one of those, bright red w/ white top..what a sweet car.

F1 season is in full force!
Rob Hall replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good first race.. was up at 6am to watch it (started at 4:30 here, by sleeping in a bit I could fast forward through the commercial breaks). Good to see Ferrari back in winning form after last season. Looks like Red Bull is consistent w/ last season as far as engine failures Wondering what the unusual graphics on the Ferraris signifies--looks like a bar code or piano keys (IIRC, they had it last year on one of their cars)? The Lotus paint scheme is great...I like the Williams paint scheme as well. -
Got the Round 2 '62 Pontiac Catalina SD in the mail today..very nice. I already had 3 of the original issue + the custom version, but this version is worth having also, IMHO. Scored a Monogram '77 GMC 4x4 shortbed fleetside pickup on ebay yesterday, been looking for that one for years. Should be getting the Revell '37 Ford PU 2n1 later this week also.

What should I have for breakfast tomorrow?
Rob Hall replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like using Bacon Salt on stuff that needs salt. http://www.baconsalt.com/ -
What month is that MCM? The most recent I've found at the LHS is the December '09 issue. My Beswick Catalina and '37 Ford pickup 2n1 have shipped from a couple online vendors on Thurs-Fri, probably will get them middle next week.

What should I have for breakfast tomorrow?
Rob Hall replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tommorrow, I'm thinking of toast w/ butter and jelly. And some fruit on the side. Went out to a favorite local place for breakfast this morning, had a tasty scramble w/ eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, biscuits w/ honey on the side, and potatoes. Tasty. -
Fan dies after hit by debris from NHRA crash

Wow..sad thing to happen... I drive past that track every day in my commute, my office is nearby. -
Very cool...impressive conversion work, and I love the accessories.

I hope we're done now!!
Rob Hall replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, summers get a bit warm in Phoenix..but it's a dry heat. Winters are great. Later this year, I'm probably going to move back to Denver or to Portland or Seattle (all are much better than the Phoenix area for my career), or maybe Charlotte or Pittsburgh (since it's very close to family, and a pretty interesting place).
