Welcome to the site, Dean. For a first model you did a fantastic job! Stick around and take it all in and you can only go up from here. Soon you'll learn things like BMF and wiring the engine and more. Congratulations. Now I'm on my way out to my hobby room to work on an engine and suspension for my 53 Ford Vicky. Later-

Ever use Monokote?
Modlbldr replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks guys for the response. Chris- No problem about the long reply. I knew that it was applied to R/C airplanes using heat and that I didn't want to attempt that on plastic. I just thought that since it seems to be thinner than vinyl (not certain if it is) than there wouldn't be as much build up of the clear to worry about. I will have to do some playing with it and see what may work. I would just hate to see it go to waste. I have some gold sheets that are about 5 inches by 2 feet and thought that it may be useful to cut it into strips using the two X-Acto blades taped together trick and make pinstripes out of it. If I use it this way I shouldn't have to worry much about compound curves. I'll post any positive results I come up with. Later- -
I really like the idea of the strip down the hood and trunk. I think it will look great all foiled up. Your paint looks nice and smooth. Keep it going. Later-

I was given a few rolls of Monokote that is used by R/C aircraft modelers the other day and yesterday I was wondering if it is possible to use it like decals or pinstriping. Now I know that it isn't like a waterslide decal but I thought that it should be possible to cover it with clear if it were possible to get it to adhere to the body long enough to coat it. I thought about using water to position it (like a decal), then once the water dries, spray it with clear. As I'm typing this I thought about using Future and a brush to get it to lay into position and then airbrush Future over it. Anyone have any ideas or see any obvious flaws in my thinking? (yes, I know my thinking can often be flawed.) Later-

So.....Would these be responsible for starting the rainbow plague??? Later- -
Agnaldo- That 53 Ford is a GREAT kit. I am in the process of working on one too. Your progress is looking good. I like the stance. (I'm not a fan of the Moon disks, though.) Keep it up. Here's a photo of mine in progress. It has an 06 Mustang interior and a 65 Mustang roof. Later-

My haul over the last few weeks: Got these two back from a kid I had given them to about a year ago. He still hadn't done anything with them. Both Complete. Got this in a trade with rustymodeler (Jerred): He had done some nice work. Reminds me of a Chevy Avalanche. More in the next post. Later-

Vintage Lowrider Photo Link?
Modlbldr replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No problem. I Love it,but with over 800 pages, it takes a while to get through. IIRC a lot of the 70's vintage stuff is around the 200's. Later- -
Hmm, OK, tell me why?

Funny thing is that there was 36 bids on it. I'd be interested to see the bid history. Later- -
Vintage Lowrider Photo Link?
Modlbldr replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Disregard!! I just found it. http://www.flickr.co...s/80643375@N00/ Gotta love this link! Later- -
A while back there was a link on here to a site that had a couple hundred pages of photos from the 70's to current of lowriders and old photos of people. Does anyone remember what the link was? I thought I had it bookmarked but can't find it in my list.I tried looking through Google too but can't seem to come up with a link. I remember that there were 70's car show photos of the Gypsy Rose. Any help??? Later-

How about a cut down window from the 55 Chevy pickup? it has curves on each end and is relatively easy to cut down to about half its height. Might be too wide though. Looking good. Later-

A100 lowrider...5-22-12 DONE!
Modlbldr replied to zaina's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I'd go with the gold with silver border on the cover with a purple stripe down the center. Sort of the opposite that you have on the body. Now that I looked at it again, just like you have on the roof. Looking great though. Keep it up. Later- -
That looks great. Where did the tires and wheels come from? Later-

I've got a buddy who does this using a similar method and the results always turn out beautiful. Some day I'll have to give this a shot. Don't forget to sand those treads for a used look. Later- -
I did this years ago with a gift card that was layered thin plastic over a paper core (?). I trimmed it down, painted it and glued it in place. The next day I noticed that either the paint or glue had seeped into the cut edge and had caused a slight bit of swelling along the edge. It isn't terribly noticeable, but it's there. I think this is a great idea. Just be careful that the card is all plastic so that the same doesn't happen to you. Later-

NICE! Can't wait to get mine! Later-

These are great looking kits and I've always thought about getting one. Now I really want one. Looking good so far. Later-

Great looking Duster. I love the color. Too bad you had to sell it. I've always had a soft spot for them. We had a 73 Gold Duster when I was younger. Nothing special, but had a lot of fun in that car. Terry, thanks for the info on applying the decals. That's why I love this site. Ones always willing to help. Later-

For as much as that kit is a turd, you made it look good. Nice job on the weathering. Later-

Go Skeeter, Go! You're just about finished. George, it looks great. Nice and simple idea. You should be happy to show that at NNL. Later-

Very Nice Jim. Beautiful color and custom touches throughout. Did you flip the grille or what? I can tell it's different but not sure how. The plate says CRAZY, not CRANKY. Later- -
