  1. Now that you mention it, it does really stand out! The truck on the box appears to be a 4x4, and the 4x4 XLT had the body color grille that's in the Lindberg kit, so it makes sense why they changed it. It is weird how they (and AMT/Ertl for that matter) just didn't care enough to find a picture of the real vehicle actually represented in the kit!
  2. Gotcha, I didn’t have mine handy to look at and I just went off this picture from the kit listing.
  3. Yeah I said they are 2WD. What I did find is the 17" wheels came with the off-road package, as well as on the 2WD STX package ('98 and '99). It's possible they were available on the regular 2WD XLT and Lariat models, but I can't say for sure. Based on the current box art for the ext cab kit, it shows the 5.4 decal on the air intake. Granted they both look similar, so you could really build it as a 4.6 or 5.4.
  4. My brief kit breakdown for reference (all represent 1997-1998 models, with the exception of the Lightning): Revell kits: 1999 Lightning - Only Revell kit with the regular cab/flareside combo. Naturally everything else is pretty much Lightning specific (can use grille to make the painted/mesh grille version, but would need to modify to fit 1997/98 bumper, or modify the standard bumper to make a 1999+ model). Supercharged 5.4L V8, 4-speed automatic. 2000 Harley Davidson Edition - Similar to Lightning kit but with the extended cab, stepside box combo. XLT Standard cab - Regular cab, long box. Shares the chassis with the extended cab kit. XLT 2WD model, has the chrome cross-bar grille which is used on all Standard (gray), XL and 2WD XLT trims. Also has the 17" aluminum wheels (optional on XLT and Lariat, also comes with the off-road package). 5.4L V8, 4-speed automatic. XLT Ext. cab - Extended cab, flareside box. XLT 2WD model, same grille and wheels as the standard cab kit. 5.4L V8, 4-speed automatic. AMT kit: Styleside - shows a long bed on the box, comes with a wideside short bed (still regular cab). XLT 2WD model. Same cross bar grille as the Revell kits, but has the 16" polished aluminum 5-spoke wheels (box shows incorrect steel wheels). 4.6L V8, 4-speed automatic. Ext cab Snapfast - Extended cab, wideside shortbed box. XLT 4WD model, can make as a Lariat too. Painted mesh grille, and split 3-spoke 16" wheels (standard Lariat, optional XLT). Lindberg Kit: Flareside 4x4 - Regular cab, flareside bed. XLT 4WD model, can also represent the Lariat 4WD. Painted mesh grille and 17" aluminum wheels. This body also has the correct wheel arch moldings featured on the 4x4 models, and all Lariat models. 4.6L V8, 5-speed manual, transfer case. The only issue is you will need the decal sheet from the off road version for the correct 4x4 bed decals.
  5. Round2 owns both brands, not surprised they would rebrand it as AMT since it's the more well known of the two (and yes I'm aware AMT made a version too). Hope it's actually true, it's a well detailed kit and comes with the 5-speed/4x4 combo unlike Revell and AMT which have Auto/2WD setups. Question is though if the stock version is the one they would re-release, since the last couple times have been the modified off-road version.
  6. I am going to guess either he deleted the files from Photobucket, or his account lapsed and PB removed them.
  7. I guess this post is a bit more generic, but I would like to see more new-subject 1/16 scale kits. I know I have brought up 1/12 kits before, but knowing how much space they take up, and how popular 1/18 scale diecasts are, it seems like 1/16 scale kits would be a good middle ground (not to mention the price is a bit easier to swallow nowadays). I suppose if I were to choose a subject, I think the current Mustang GT500 would be a great choice.
  8. To bring this thread back up, the AMT Chevy Tahoe snap kit has a minor blunder, but an annoying one for me. Basically up to 1995, the Tahoe/Blazer/K1500 had exposed fake lugnuts on the center caps whereas 1996+ they were smooth. The 1995 promos had the correct center caps, and the snap kit which is apparently a 1996 model, also has the correct center caps. However, the box shows the earlier center caps, which are what I wanted since I am making it a 1995 model (since I don't feel like trying to make the Vortec engine that was introduced in 1996). Did they make a 1996 promo that warranted them doing the extra work to change the wheels?
  9. Fireball has generic bias ply tires that look pretty close to the Polyglas tires, and he has the white letter decals as well for them.
  10. Alternately, Joseph at Fireball Modelworks makes some great tires and tire decals if you can't find these at all.
  11. I know people talk about not having newer truck kits, but I always though it was weird that basically the model companies stopped making new van kits in like the early 80's. I think the only "new" van kit would be Lindberg's Caravan kit. It's like, up until maybe the early '00s, conversion vans were very popular. Even to now, vans are used for so many businesses and for the whole "vanlife" community, that it seems like they would be kits that would sell well. With just a different base kit for passenger vs cargo, they could probably come up with a dozen different kits of each without having to do much extra work.
  12. I feel that scanning a full real vehicle, figuring out how the parts go together, and designing the trees would be way more work and cost than just scanning the existing trees (the assembly procedure is already done), doing some touchups in the 3d model, and sending it to the cnc machine. Thats not to say that I wouldn’t want a newly tooled, accurate kit of the OBS GM trucks.
  13. Okay so its more a matter of it is just getting started. What brought up the thought is the 1989 Chevy C1500 longbed kit that was converted into the monster truck kit. I was thinking, why don’t they just get ahold of a sealed kit and rescan it to bring back the stock version.
  14. I remember seeing those, but did they say what they scanned specifically?
  15. This was something that just crossed my mind: for the kits where they can’t find the original tooling, what is stopping them from purchasing a sealed kit and rescanning everything? Or has this been done already?

  17. Yeah I noted that in my prior post.
  18. My bad, I was thinking more of the newer ones. Stuff like the bass boats, the race car trailer, the formula one boat, and even the jet ski that came with the '99 Silverado.
  19. Now Revell needs to start bringing back out their vehicle and trailer/boat kits! Heck, even if they just bring back the trailers/boats as their own kits would be great.
  20. That's an excellent looking build! The green looks great, it's a pretty close match for the moss green pearl they offered towards the end of the YJ and during the start of the TJ.
  21. I haven't, though it would be incorrect for the Bronco, unless you were going for an axle swap build. The fact that he is going to be selling them again though means I would like to try it on the '79 F-350 kit!
  22. Honestly both are cool in their own ways and the originals should have been brought back in addition to the new ones. I do find it funny that back then they apparently didn't care enough to photograph the kit from the side with the tires facing the correct direction.
  23. It’s okay Stacey David, we know it’s really your car underneath! ?
  24. I already planned to modify Tamiya's 66 Beetle into a Baja, since luckily I have one to use for reference!
