1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0: New Project

I have that Corvette also, but it's under the Doyusha label. I do agree that it is much better detailed compared to the Porsche! -
1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0: New Project
Jordan White replied to Jordan White's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I did not notice that, but for all the work that would be required to fix it, I'm not too bothered. -
This build will ultimately be a representation of the 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0, and will be built using the Doyusha Porsche 911 Turbo kit. This kit has its share of issues, since it was designed to be motorized and to have an electrical system to power some lights. The other problem is this kit was designed to resemble the 1973 Porsche 911 Turbo concept, but does not have any discernable turbo assembly in the engine bay. Here's the kit I'll be starting with (image courtesy of The Creative Explorer): The nice thing is the bumpers and wide body were used on both the Turbo concept and the RS 3.0, as well as the larger spoiler. I plan on painting mine lime green, which there was at least one documented RS 3.0 painted in this color. The one thing I'm going to do away from stock is give it a set of 19" Fusch wheels, using the tires from the 2010 Shelby GT500. Anyways, the engine was already started by myself before, However, the top shroud and rocker covers were painted orange based on one pic I found, but in reality the shroud should be red, and the rocker covers should be black based on further research. The intake assembly was also an odd design compared to what I've found in pics, so I removed it. I attached the rear inner fenders to the floor, since it will all be painted body color, and I fitted in the engine cradle to see what needs to be done. I found that I need to add a filler piece between the cradle and the firewall that will also be used to mount the shocks. For the front, I found that the trunk/fuel tank area is not like any actual cars I can find. The closest one is a early 70's Carrera 2.7, but the fuel tank in the kit is too close to the passenger cabin. What I did is cut the fuel tank off, and I will create a filler piece that will move the fuel tank closer to the nose of the body. I also plan on dumping the "spare tire" as well.

The patina/rust thing
Jordan White replied to Earl Marischal's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The one trend I can't stand has to do with rat rods, though not the ones you're probably thinking of. Do this, go to Craigslist and search for "rat rod". Notice how most vehicles are either pre war cars with rust, cars sitting in a field titled "rat rod project", or simply any vehicle painted matte black. -
One new tool of an older subject I would love to see is a 1/12 scale Mopar muscle car, such as a 1970 Charger or Cuda. They are popular subjects, can be made into a few different releases, and there are currently no Mopar products in 1/12 scale, while there are close to a half dozen gm kits and a couple Ford kits already. One tool of a newer subject I would love to see is a previous gen Ram 2500 or 3500 with the Cummins. Again, popular trucks, can be made into many different versions, and there are no current truck kits other than the Meng F350. Plus, people would probably buy the kit for the engine alone.

1991 Chevy S10 Turbo
Jordan White replied to Jordan White's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Quick update, been busy lately so haven't had much time to work on models. I got the chassis cleaned up, removing the "spare tire" assembly and trimming down the rear leaf spring mounts (in order to help lower the truck a bit). I then painted it with a gold base coat, and a few coats of a GM metallic blue from Duplicolor. The body will also be this color, along with some z-stripes in bright yellow and Magnetic Gray Metallic. -
From what I can see, does it have one piece wheels? I am disappointed that they are still using the simplified front suspension though.

Rattle Cans - who still uses them?
Jordan White replied to tiking's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Check around, it is usually listed as being for lexan RC bodies, but will work on plastic and styrene models. Hobbylinc sells it for 12 bucks for a 3oz can, but it has lasted me for quite a while since you don't use much at a time. -
84 GMC
Jordan White replied to 68shortfleet's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
It's the AMT '84 GMC kit, which had a blue truck on the box in it's most recent iteration. However, before you go looking for a kit on ebay, know that the kit is going to be rereleased in the near future! -
This build will be a 1991 S10, using the Monogram kit. And yes, as the title states, it will be a turbo. However, it's not going to be any sort of super high-performance engine build, but rather a mildly hopped up version of the stock 4.3 V6. I will be using the kit engine, the manual transmission from the AMT Chevy C1500 kit, and the turbo setup from the Revell 3n1 '78 El Camino kit. As for the exterior, I will be using the Goodyear tires from the AMT 90's Trans Am, the custom wheels from the AMT F-150, the stock grille, and the custom bumper and chin spoiler. Color is still up in the air at this point, but it will be a brighter color since this build will be in the spirit of the 90's sport mini-trucks. Here's roughly how it will sit:
-
The wheel openings do appear to lack a bit of their "flared" look, but it's hard to tell in the low res pic without paint. There's also the matter of the rockers and rear lower fenders, which appear to possibly angle in too sharply.

84 GMC

Great job! I agree that this kit, while nice to have for the '81-'87 sheetmetal, is pretty poor in some areas. Another thing to mention is the wheels and tires, which if I had to guess came from one of the 1/20 kits, since they seem much bigger than 15-16" wheels. -
B.R.B.O. ?????

Meh, certainly better than people who make topic titles that have no indication of what is inside the thread. -
Is there a pic that shows the correct Lightning Rod shifters?

Good to see they're bringing back the Ford 350 again! Also really looking forward to the Olds.

Can't say for sure, but my kit has a copyright date of 1978. -

After looking at Revells version of the 1/16 pickup, I'm curious how this version would have compared if it were made. -
MENG 1/24 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab: Sneak Peek Pics!
Jordan White replied to Gregg's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
While working on this kit again, I noticed an error on the rear axle. Basically, the rear part of the differential housing (with the cover) is offset to one side, rather than centered like it should be. I was thinking that I had assembled it backwards, but then figured nothing else would line up correctly. I'm not going to bother fixing it on this build, but I probably will on the next one. I'm also about 95% positive that the plates that the u-bolts attach to are supposed to be on the leaf spring side, not under the axle. Edit: after doing some research, it appears that the Dana 80 used in the 350 Dually trucks had the u-bolts loop over the springs, like in the kit. The Sterling 10.5" used in the 350 SRW trucks had the u-bolts loop around the axle. This means that either Meng simply used a F-350 DRW axle in their research, or there is a dually version in the works and they decided to share parts. Granted, with the few other errors, it could just be oversight. -
1/16 Volkswagen Transporter Samba Bus
Jordan White replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
So I'm guessing it's about on par with the 1/16 Beetle kit? I have that one and there are some parts that are lacking in detail in relation to the scale of the kit (engine is a big one). -
If you could sell the parts, you could even make 10 times the kit price, based on one seller I always see. They have 1/16 scale parts (for the Chevy pickup specifically) going for on average around $40-50 for a part or small selection of parts. I was looking to get some that didn't come in my edition of the kit, and to get the parts would have cost me triple or quadruple what I paid for the kit!

I do like the Outback choice as well, with European as my second choice.
