What Do New Kits Have Inaccuracies
Jordan White replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
True, it is on the higher end of the spectrum on what I would like to pay. However, paying $30-40 for a well detailed Tamiya or Aoshima kit feels like a good deal for the content, and if Revell could make some kits with similar detail levels for the same price, then I would be satisfied with that price. Revell kits seem to average around $25, but they generally seem to stick with details that make them feel cheap (two piece wheels anyone?). They don't have to try and fit in opening everything like some of the Level 3 kits of the past, but just providing more/better detailed parts as well as 1:1 accuracy would go a long way. -
What Do New Kits Have Inaccuracies

While not trying to get into this can of worms, I will say that I am willing to pay more for a better kit. I bought two of the Meng F350 kits when they came out, at around $65 apiece. While they had a couple small issues that I can look past, the overall quality and detail of the kit (plus the subject matter) are what swayed me to pay so much. -
Tamiya Toyota Land Cruiser 80 kits

Yup. The stock kit uses Dunlops, and the Sport Options kit uses Yokohama Mud Diggers. -
Tamiya Toyota Land Cruiser 80 kits
Jordan White replied to martinfan5's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Sweet! These kits are tough to find, especially the version with the sport options. I know that the Montero kit with sport options comes with both LHD and RHD interiors, so I'm guessing the Land Cruiser is the same. -
Would you be able to make them out of brass? Should be sturdier than styrene.

Resto-Mods & Modern Hot Rods

Worst show is probably Counting Cars IMO. TFChronos: start on season 2 of Graveyard Carz, it gets better with less drama and goofing off, and more building and information. -
Dual dually's
Jordan White replied to dieseldawg142's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
The nice thing is you could just say it's a 1995 model, since the only difference between '95 and '96 was the new Vortec engine. -
Has that Revell Crown Victoria come out yet?
Jordan White replied to English Jules's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Now that this will be out for the snap-build crowd, it would be great if they would create a glue kit for those who want one. It could be a 2004 model, and the kit could easily be a 4n1 kit. Version 1: Stock base model with wheel covers (that would go on top of a set of steel wheels) Version 2: LX Sport model with alloy wheels and floor shift Version 3: Undercover/detective model using stock wheel covers, spotlights, and "hidden" flashing lights Version 4: Fully decked out police cruiser with steel wheels and center caps, light bar (could have options like the Charger kit), interior divider, computer, spotlights, decals. It seems like alot, but it's just two sets of wheels (plus two sets of covers), all the police specific stuff, and a few fancier parts for the LX Sport model, so it's an expanded 2n1 kit. Or if they wanted to make several kits, they could as well. 1) Stock and Sport, 2) Undercover and Police Cruiser 3) Taxi with a few different decal and service light options. It's one of those tools that could easily be used several different times to recoup their costs. -
Otaki 1/12 Trans Am (question)

Oh okay. Well in that case list them up in the "for trade" section. -
Otaki 1/12 Trans Am (question)
Jordan White replied to Stray's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
From what I've seen, it hasn't been built very much. I have one in my stash that will eventually be built, so I can't be of help. You might want to try the wanted section of the forum, but since it's so rare it may be tough to find someone who will part with the body. Do you still have the original body, and if so, how badly damaged is it? -
1986 Chevy S-10 pickup
Jordan White replied to S. Svendsen's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I see this now, though you still did forget the reverse lights. probably doesn't help that the raised ridges are a bit out of scale. -
I've put mine away for now. I haven't been able to paint lately which has stalled that build, so I've been working on another kit until it warms up again.

A very nice build of a good kit. Only thing that would make it perfect is painting the raised trim on the taillights. -
Yeah, as chunjypb said, the alley scene was Diamonds are Forever with Sean Connery. Also, the DB5 was introduced back in Goldfinger, also with Connery.

Revell, great quality for over 35 years!
Jordan White replied to highway's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As much as the Honcho kit may be slightly different than the real thing, it would be great if they would bring it out again. It's getting difficult to find them, and the ones that are on eBay seem to be going for close to $100! I'm actually surprised they didn't release a version back in the mid 90's to tie in with the movie Twister. -
Hmm I didn't realize they dated back that far. I guess I'll have to wait for some more pics then.

In my instructions, that slot and mystery arrow is for the alternator. I have the LP500S kit, so it must be mounted differently for the 5000 and 25th kits.

Ford F350 camper
Jordan White replied to Atmobil's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Dunno if its too late or not, but I would suggest rounding out the wheel openings on the sidewalls to update the look a bit. -
I'm really hoping that if it does come out, they don't cheapen out on the chassis and make it like the Monte Carlo SS. If they could make it more detailed, similar in respect to their '70 Cuda kit, then that would be great.

Looks great! Do you have a pic of the chassis handy? -
Alright, this build will be a dual build with two generations of the Pontiac Trans Am in 1/16 scale. The first build is MPC's 1980 Pontiac Turbo Blackbird kit, and the second is Revell's 1987 Pontiac Trans Am GTA. I'm going to make them be built as close to each other as possible, while at the same time being factory stock (minus assembly line markings). So both will be metallic maroon exterior (Montreux Maroon for the 1980, Flame Red Metallic for the 1987), both tan interior, and both with gold spoked wheels. Of course the drivetrains will be different, but both V8s with automatic transmission. The '80 will be the Turbo 301 with the TH350, and the '87 will be the TPI 350 with the 700R4. One thing I did notice is even though the 1:1 cars have similar dimensions, the kits are somewhat different sized. Using the wheelbase for comparison, the '80 appears to be almost spot on while the '87 is slightly smaller (even though the instructions say that Revell used blueprints furnished by Pontiac). Of course, once built, I think the difference will be less noticeable. The one thing I will have to do is have some transmissions 3D printed, since both come with incorrect T-10 style 4-speed transmissions.
