  1. Wheels are easy for me, tires on the other hand are out of my realm at this point in time! I hope to do some more work on the build tonight.
  2. Should be interesting to watch! For the instructions, check this page: http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/revell-6/revell-giant-tracks/ You are correct, it should be at minimum a K20 since it is a 4WD. However, I don't believe they made a stepside 3/4 ton (unless it was a long bed version), so it should be a K10. Tires, your best bet (that is not buying super expensive kit tires from ebay) would be either R/C truck tires or tires from a diecast truck from the store, you'd have to measure to see. Do you plan on using the rollbar? If not, I would be interested in it. Regardless, I have the "High Sierra version" and have many parts that I will not be using that I could send you to help a bit. PM me your address if you're interested.
  3. Thanks! No pics yet, but I spent last night adapting the headers to fit on the big block.
  4. I just received a 427 big block engine from off Ebay, and so I decided that it would be time to start this project. Using the recent 1/12 Foose Camaro kit, along with the new engine and some parts from a vintage 1/12 Camaro kit, I will be building a 427 Yenko Camaro. I'm not going to be building it to "factory exact", but rather it will be built more like a clone or tribute. I plan on painting it Rally Green with the white stripes, and will be creating some Torque Thrust D wheels in Solidworks to be 3d printed. I'll be using the Eagle GT tires from the older kit, and even though they say they are 14" tires, I will be making the wheels 15" since the tires will fit them. Finally, I will be opening the doors and the trunklid, but I won't be building the inner trunk since I will be simply using it as a space to hold a battery to light up the headlights and running lights. It'll look similar to this: 427 engine parts: SAM_0206 by mudder_trucker8, on Flickr
  5. Don't sell yourself short, from the pictures, other than the few fitment issues you pointed out, it looks great! I do agree with your missus that the paint job looks awesome and should stay!
  6. Should be a fun build! I love builds that follow 1:1 vehicles. The paint is also a good choice, it's what I use all the time.
  7. I'm hoping they offer the fender flares in the kit!
  8. I find that a lot of things considered hobbies, would not interest many kids nowadays. Stamp collecting? Lame! Baseball cards? Boring! Model trains? Who has the space for that? Model cars? Too much time spent just to put it on the shelf and forget it. Does that make me sound old? Well I'm 28 and have been building models in some form since 1st grade. However out of everyone I knew in school, only one person built models, and not that many. However, I think it's a case of having more options for things to do in your spare time (or less spare time to use). Another issue is many hobbies feel like old person things to younger people. Go to a model show and its groups of older guys with the occasional younger folks. Go to a car show and see all the old farts sitting next to their stock '57 Bel Air, wearing a Hawaiian style shirt with Corvettes on it. Finally, where's all the kits of newer vehicles that aren't super cars or the Camaro/Vette/Mustang? I know nothing gets me more excited than going to Micheals and seeing nothing but Corvettes and vintage reissues. /sarcasm
  9. They may not be totally correct, but they are the same general design.
  10. The one thing that I don't quite get about this is how Revell loves to use the same tire for multiple kits, thus it seems like they could spread the cost out over those several kits (which I'm sure is what they did in the past). Granted, the other thing they could do is go to some of the smaller companies that aren't owned by any of the big ones.
  11. In theory, it's similar to the Lenco transmission setup that had a stick for each gear. It's also a variation on the ratchet-shifter where you are "manually" shifting through the gears, but don't need a clutch. The main stick can also just be used like a normal automatic shifter. It really was just a gimmick, but it certainly was interesting.
  12. Actually, GM sold a version of the Monte Carlo SS in Mexico that came with a 4-speed manual for 1984 only.
  13. I've said it before, but they should really scale up their new release of the '70 Cuda and sell it as a 1/12 kit, preferably as a 2n1 or 3n1 configuration. There has never been a 1/12 MOPAR kit, the smaller scale MOPAR kits are popular, as have been the 1/12 Chevy kits that Revell/Monogram has sold. The models should already be there, they would just need to be scaled up and modified a bit with a bit more detail.
  14. Check out the AMT 1980 Bronco kit, it has a nice set of older wheels and tires with separate center hubs.
  15. I have that Corvette also, but it's under the Doyusha label. I do agree that it is much better detailed compared to the Porsche!
  16. I did not notice that, but for all the work that would be required to fix it, I'm not too bothered.
  17. This build will ultimately be a representation of the 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0, and will be built using the Doyusha Porsche 911 Turbo kit. This kit has its share of issues, since it was designed to be motorized and to have an electrical system to power some lights. The other problem is this kit was designed to resemble the 1973 Porsche 911 Turbo concept, but does not have any discernable turbo assembly in the engine bay. Here's the kit I'll be starting with (image courtesy of The Creative Explorer): The nice thing is the bumpers and wide body were used on both the Turbo concept and the RS 3.0, as well as the larger spoiler. I plan on painting mine lime green, which there was at least one documented RS 3.0 painted in this color. The one thing I'm going to do away from stock is give it a set of 19" Fusch wheels, using the tires from the 2010 Shelby GT500. Anyways, the engine was already started by myself before, However, the top shroud and rocker covers were painted orange based on one pic I found, but in reality the shroud should be red, and the rocker covers should be black based on further research. The intake assembly was also an odd design compared to what I've found in pics, so I removed it. I attached the rear inner fenders to the floor, since it will all be painted body color, and I fitted in the engine cradle to see what needs to be done. I found that I need to add a filler piece between the cradle and the firewall that will also be used to mount the shocks. For the front, I found that the trunk/fuel tank area is not like any actual cars I can find. The closest one is a early 70's Carrera 2.7, but the fuel tank in the kit is too close to the passenger cabin. What I did is cut the fuel tank off, and I will create a filler piece that will move the fuel tank closer to the nose of the body. I also plan on dumping the "spare tire" as well.
  18. The one trend I can't stand has to do with rat rods, though not the ones you're probably thinking of. Do this, go to Craigslist and search for "rat rod". Notice how most vehicles are either pre war cars with rust, cars sitting in a field titled "rat rod project", or simply any vehicle painted matte black.
  19. Just ask him when you order, I did with the BFG All Terrain T/A tires and he sent me a few sets of 5.
  20. One new tool of an older subject I would love to see is a 1/12 scale Mopar muscle car, such as a 1970 Charger or Cuda. They are popular subjects, can be made into a few different releases, and there are currently no Mopar products in 1/12 scale, while there are close to a half dozen gm kits and a couple Ford kits already. One tool of a newer subject I would love to see is a previous gen Ram 2500 or 3500 with the Cummins. Again, popular trucks, can be made into many different versions, and there are no current truck kits other than the Meng F350. Plus, people would probably buy the kit for the engine alone.
  21. I really wish that Revell would make a 1/12 Cuda of some sort, maybe even based off their new 1970 kit tooling.
  22. It does appear that Revell of Germany will be rereleasing the 1/8 1965 Corvette sometime this year actually, though I have no clue on price yet.
  23. Quick update, been busy lately so haven't had much time to work on models. I got the chassis cleaned up, removing the "spare tire" assembly and trimming down the rear leaf spring mounts (in order to help lower the truck a bit). I then painted it with a gold base coat, and a few coats of a GM metallic blue from Duplicolor. The body will also be this color, along with some z-stripes in bright yellow and Magnetic Gray Metallic.
  24. From what I can see, does it have one piece wheels? I am disappointed that they are still using the simplified front suspension though.
  25. Its the AMT '84 GMC that is slated to be re released sometime this year.
