Thx.... The Toyota is the one I was gonna build for the gr. c build we were talking about a few weeks back. But that's ok, I still got plenty more of them I can use !!! lol....

My son and I and a friend got together for a build along during the Lemans race. Finished up 2 gr. C racers and my friend almost got his ZR1 finished. After we finished our Gr. C's, we got started on a couple C5R kits but only got them into primer is all. Here is the link to the full album. http://public.fotki.com/ferrarifreak/lemans-24-hr-build-2012/

I have used almost all of the previously mentioned methods. This one also is a tool I bought years ago, and recently modified to be more useful and adjustable. Just ran a threaded screw through it with 2 wingnuts to adjust tension on different width bodies. And also put velcro strips on the pads which were worn out, and can apply a velcro strip inside the body so it won't slide off.

At least the one Toyota went out with a big finish !!! I admit I was impressed with the performance of the Toyota though. And the lawn dart got stuck in the wall, where they should have left it !!!! -

Thanks for the links Jonathan. I'm really looking forward to this one. I'm so over the Deltawing deal and all the hype with it. Too radical for me. I AM excited though to see the Toyota. I really like that car and it's ideas and theory. Plus the vids i've seen of it are awesome with the sound, and it's quite competitive timewise !! My son and I are doing another Lemans modelpalooza with friends. I'm building the Toyota Toms 88C that I had picked out for the Gr. C build we had talked about. And my son is building the Nissan R89C !! And yes, i'm cheating a bit with it, i'm getting the paintwork done prior to the race !! As before, the 2 and 3 color schemes of these cars are a hindrence to start to finish building of these. Much more fun to just apply decals while your fresh and just assemble and detail the thing. I'l post a link to the builds when finished. -
What are you wanting for Fathers day?
ffreak replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To spend the day building models with my son, watching Lemans, and hopefully get to see my daughter and grandaughters too !! -

Very cool !! What is the scale / manufacturer ??

I got some Fujimi Ferrari 430 GT kits. Looks like they used the Challenge kits and just added a wing. Don't care for the graphics and plan on doing something else with them anyway !! Also got these a couple weeks ago to make Senna's car with !!!

best wax for final buff out?

Tamiya also makes a very good polishing compound and finishing compound. I also like Novus # 1 and #2. -
For me it's a matter of taking me back to a point in time in my childhood when I built things like this the first time they came around. Back then, it was pure fun, as it should be always !! I built many of the Tom Daniels kits then, and have them again now, and I don't see the problem with that. Some people like Ferraris, some like 57 chevys and so on... I also like Rat Fink, I bet there's some that don't. Variety is the norm !!!

I got a great airbrush deal at Michaels
ffreak replied to philo426's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've had mine forever... one of the best airbrushes ever made !! I have a brand new d/a brush for backup, but that's why it's still new, the 200 is so great and easy to use, I won't ever use the d/a !! Great buy on that one dude !!! -
Good recovery there Jonathan !!! Gotta get back on my Lambo today. Been kinda busy....

Very Cool !!! I love these cars, and these kits !!! I have a bunch of them yet to build and several already done !! I've got the Ron Fellows AER Camaro started !!

Mostly depends on what my subject is and what paints are available and a match. My first choice is always Tamiya ts sprays. Also use Testors laquers. I'm done with Testors enamels, have no use for them anymore. I also like to use MCW, HOK, Cobra Colors I still have some of. I would like to start trying Scalefinishes some day also.

So today I finally snapped...

Ditto on the Formula 560 !! Bob Downie gave me a bottle of it at one of our paloozas and it's my go to now for any clear parts. Holds very strong, dries clear, and can be wiped off with a wet paper towel or kleenex before it dries. Heck it's even so strong that my son assembled a S27 resin Ferrari kit with nothing but it for the entire car !!! And it's still together ! Great product !! -
Very cool !!

I used to get 1500 at Walmart but they don't carry it anymore. Also used to get it at parts stores in individual sheets. But they won't sell it like that anymore, so I have to buy the large assortment packs. Yes you are correct on the tape. A friend of mine gave me that tip and it helps keep from going through the edges. The dish soap also does help if you have one that is really rough and is eating up your paper. The way I get the polish outa the crevices is to soak the body in a bowl of water with a bit of liquid dish soap for a few hours and occasionally scrubbing in the crevices with a childs soft toothbrush, and let soak more and repeat untill it's all gone. This doesn't hurt the painted surfaces or scratch it at all as long as your careful. Then rinse well and dry with clean soft cloth or old tshirt. You can dry with white soft paper towels or kleenex. I don't like to use paper towels with printing on them cause the ink tends to come off on the model when it gets wet. Hope this helps.

My " go to " grit is 1500, and patience !!! It takes a bit of time, but not too coarse to scratch up too bad. I may go up to 2,000 or down to 1,000 depending on how much paint I have on there, the sharp edges and such. But the 1500 is middle of the road for me anyway. Scuderia makes a valid point also. I've learned on sharp edges to use Tamiya 6mm masking tape, do the sanding, remove the tape and use polish to even out the finish and blend it in. One of my best friends has a motto, " there's a lesson in every kit " !!!

The more clear you put on, the more your gonna have to wetsand back off. The trick is to lightly wetsand just enough for the dirt particles to release from the layers below it.. ... Sometimes that can come down to just 2 or 3 strokes with the paper to make the difference. When i'm spraying and something lands in it, I stop right there. Let it dry, and get it right outa there with sandpaper. This is especially easy with laquers. I've wetsanded within a half hour before, cleaning the grit or hairs, and re-shooting right away. Burying the flaws in the clear has never worked for me anyway... my two cenths worth.. for what it helps !!
