Ok .. similar to many but I just cut up cardboard boxes from products that have a glossy printed surface. This keeps the epoxy/glues from seeping into bare cardboard or paper. I use them till full them replace. Cut any size that suits you or your bench.

great for linkage pin for carbs,n throttle linkage
Foxer replied to booboo60's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
WE never did get a photo from this, but since I'm diabetic I tore a pin from my blood tester apart ... or rather, extracted it with the x-acto knife. It was a pin, probably stainless steel, one inch long and .016" diameter. It would be a .4" diameter in 1.25 scale. Though that seems large, it would look good as a linkage pin on a carb. My batteries wend dead so no pic, but none needed with the measurements. -
I'm still silently sitting here with dropped jaw and totally enjoying watching this build! Learning things too!

Very nice build of this one! I have a 250 GTO on the bench for this year's Cannonball Run build that was a junker and I believe a Monogram kit. I can see some differences in the engine compartment that help confirm this. It's not easy "ratting" this car up to look like a sleeper .. I SO want to grind rust holes in it!

Here's what I should have done to start with .. do what Russ asked and post a photo. I bought these at Wallmart about 2 months ago and paid $.99 each. These were the only colors there at the time for that price. There was another line there at less than 2 bucks a can with more colors, but I wanted just the .99 cent ones as these had been recommended here as good flat paints .. white and black. hey completely lived up to that recommendation! As far as using as primer, I did try the white (on a white plastic body) so I can't really comment on how well it does work as primer.

Good to see it back and you working on it!

Mini Cooper S Countryman 8/17/17 fixed photo links and added some new

I did sell the Mini but not to any fault of the car. It was a fun car to drive and had amazing room for such a small one. The tiny 1.6 engine was an amazing piece .. had more horsepower that all the old Porsches I had. The dealer was an hour away, same as my last 8 cars, and I got tired of that trip after sitting for 5 hours as they traced an electrical short in the Mini. So now I have a BMW X1 from dealer 5 minutes away and 4WD to get up my mountain driveway in winter. I've gotten paint from Scale Finishes and Model Car World and have been happy with both. PaintScratch has started offering paint in spray cans and I hate using airbrushes .. just way too much trouble for me. I have an Iwata Revolution and a Paasche H brushes so it's not the brushes fault. I use them only when theres no other way for the paint color I want. -
Holy Camper, Art! ... those sleeping arrangements .. that's a first! What did you do with all that plywood when you just wanted to sit? I'd say this should be built into one of the new Hudsons so we all can see!

That's a good looking one! I'd love to see a shot from down low to see the section better. Where did you take it .. it's hard to tell from the photos. They weren't kidding when they termed the Merc as a lead sled.. that body is massive and even with a 3" section looks massive.

The one everyone has been talking about is the $.99 one. I got both black and white. I was really looking for a geed flat black and this stuff goes on very smooth .... it really impressed me. The white I just used as a primer on a Mini I'm working on. I just posted photos of the body in primer, but they weren't mean to showcase the primer. It went on very smooth and even and I'm not going to sand it at all before I apply the topcoat. I like these flat paints better than any I've tried .. and I have tried most. What a bargain!

Mini Cooper S Countryman 8/17/17 fixed photo links and added some new

This is what I've been silently working on for the past two weeks or so. I had stopped after finding I could not get the Mini Brilliant Copper paint my 2013 had .. from Mini Parts or any touch up paint store online. I recently saw a 2014 Mini in the same color and it clicked ... I went to Paintscratch.com where I've been getting paint and there it was .. 2014 Mini Brilliant Copper! .. and still not listed for 2013 .. why didn't the Mini Parts guys find this? The color was said to be new when I bought it in January, so it was called a 2014 color... I sold the Mini so will never know. So I'm back on it and have mostly completed the chassis and interior is getting put together. Both took a lot of detail painting. I used a PE detailing set where it looked better than the excellent kit details .. not much was used! The brake disks are pe and were twirled on fine sandpaper to get some circular grooving. The body is in primer ready for some Brilliant Copper!! Here's where it is now .. -
eheh .. we show no mercy here

Nasty yellow junk under chrome plating
Foxer replied to Relic_Models's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've had no problems removing paint with all the typical products in the thread Andy linked to, but this under chrome coating is especially tough to remove. I've soaked chrome for days in the others with little or no results. I have found success with Dawn Power Dissolver on most chrome. Be aware that there are great differences in this coating from kit to kit and company to company. -
That engine is a beautiful piece

eheh .. I just meant you can't tell the scale in a photo .. you know .. and my friend Sam Adams backs me up!
