I drove a 60 or 61 Lark all summer for the Connecticut Highway Dept. taking traffic surveys all over the state. We'd sit in school desk chairs at shopping malls and take license plate numbers. They used this to graph traffic patterns. The Larks were our home for the day with all our lunches and sleeping quarters for smoke breaks. This model will be a nice representation of a car I "owned" The 1:1's were about 10 year old State cars on their last duty station. We were prospective State Engineers for the Highway Dept. The cars did take us everyday to a different city diligently, with college break abuse firmly applied. They were all black 4-doors with no options. I don't remember what the interior was and have to begin research. The model is a Johan 1961 Studebaker Lark friction wheel Promo with a missing wheel, grill and a broken front bumper end. The 1:1 car I'm replicated was a 4-door '60-61, so a '61 2-door will be close enough. I found it for $10 at the Bennington Toy Show and ebay has them for like $50, so whats a few pieces to make or replace. The body is pretty straight, slight lower mid warp and top hsd small warp the hopefully window can straighten. The glass has yellowed but might look good on a dirty, unpolished, scratched State black.

That's pretty cool as I have a 7 year grandson too. The Peterbilt sounds good and I would have never checked a 1/32 kit. Maybe there is a chance to get him trying model building ... if I can get me son to cart him up here!

I've never used Elmers white glue because of the long drying time and there is no initial stickiness which is a requisite for me in a temp glue. How do you guys make it work for you?

Went to the Bennington (VT) Toy and Model Show today, but it no longer has a model contest, just a good number of model car venders with some interesting stuff. Old and new kits, resin bodies and old built model cars. I was tempted many times, but resisted getting something I'll never finish. I did succumb to a 1961 Studebaker Lark promo with a frozen friction drive and a missing wheel and grill. The plastic body was pretty straight and was only $10. Ah, yes. That all is what makes it fun. I was just scanning the few finished builds here to take one to Bennington today for the Model Show and a '90 Legacy of my wife's old car still has a video rental on the dash!

This Saturday, February 11, 2017 is the annual Bennington Toy and Model Show and Auction at the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Parish Center in Bennington VT. This is the first show of the year that quells the building Cabin Fever in this part of New England. There are always some interesting car models and a number of venders usually show. It's only an hour north of me so we'll be there. Have to be back down here later in the day so will probably not put any models down, at least not more than one. This Nor'easter popped in just in time for the hour drive to Leeds VA for new hearing aids. You don't miss Audiology unless you want to wait another month. And I haven't driven a storm in years so was looking forward to it. It was a 20-30 mph blast thru the wilds of western Massachusetts and I had a blast! The GTI stayed home and took the Audi Q5 which even went up our steep driveway with 12" measured on the deck.

I'm glad to see you got the photos working. This is my kind of build, one you owned. Has to be what go you going again, Tom! The paint looks really smooth ... The rims look cool ...

definitely a 50's custom. That flake looks really good, nice scale.

Every piece is done right and the whole adds to more. I'm going to have look back at this on the bench for how you did the wood.
