Curtains! .. cool
-
I started a new build that I am hoping I can complete in a short period of time .. VERY short, almost instantly, by my usual standards. I can't reveal what I am building until it is about done, but lets see how far I can go before someone comes up with a guess. I did try Bondic to attach some brass tubes together as my soldering iron has disappeared. I believe the brass was just too smooth and the Bondic would not stay attached. So some epoxy was used. I made up a jig for the brass rods since I needed two assemblies. The wheels are off a parts '41 Chevy truck and all the sleeves to fit the axle are in place. .. that's all, folks. .. please stay tuned.

Foiling over large curves
Foxer replied to Roadrunner's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I tend to do windows and curved trim in strips that cover the section with as little bending as possible. This leaves overlaps in the same placed 1:1 trim joins. It's my cheap nature that I find covering something like a window in one piece is wasteful as well. -
Welcome, Nathan. Your stimulus of "I like to base my models on cars I've actually seen" makes for an endless source of modeling ideas .. I'll be watching to see what comes out of this machine! I do mostly cars I've owned so the same type of stimulus drives me. It also sounds lik eyou are starting out right ... learning something new on every build. That's how even the champs learn. I like your '55 ... it's even kitbashed already!

OK, I'm going to say it ... 1-2-3

Improved Skylark wire wheels for my 1/43 NEO '57 Buicks
Foxer replied to traditional's topic in Diecast Corner
That's a big improvement! Was well worth the effort. That's a tiny scale but Neo does a great job detailing their issues. -
It looks like I'm going to make it this year! An intermediate stop on way to see the grand kids another hour south. I even have two builds since my last time, three years ago. And possible I'll have an entry for the 30th table ... I'm hoping I manage to meet a few of you all there

and I know it;s S0000000000 much better than those "performance" cars of old! I just did the same with a new GTI ... I'm back to driving,

Countach ignition wiring....?

WoW! ... talk about having the data on this one, Bill! ... just saying it's good to have your input here. (note to self: REPEAT in one month) -
T Toronto Spray Chrome looks VERY interesting! The other "plating" types really get my chimes going ... aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, iron, nickel-silver, white bronze, and zinc (Z3) and says these can be "cold alloyed" together to make new materials! I've never sent anything to the chroming services but this place could change my mind. We should have a running thread on this process to share your experiences. First person to experience this is it! (wanna bet it's Steve?)

very cool and good to hear! -
Looking good. It's interesting how they cast the 'multi-piece' body.

I don't think that would work. I would need to be a two piece mold and would be near impossible to fill as Bondic is thick and doesn't flow. The light wouldn't be able to reach the material through the opaque molds, unless you had clear, 2-piece molds. Keeping the transparency would be a little work too and would be needed to be sprayed with some acrylic clear before touching it. I addressed some of these problems in my Bondic thread.

I would expect them to charge for the Renault 4, but they charged for the damaged DS19 too ... or am I misunderstanding? -
Yes! ... beautiful J30!

Good to hear. -
I've tried Bondic to try gluing a read window for a Subaru Legacy together with Bondic. The window was broken in 2 through the middle. Bondic will not make the seam invisible, though it could be the looking fix for this "impossible" task. I was careful to wipe all Bondic squeezed out from the joint and it cured through the clear plastic, but it is pretty visible. Sorry, I don't have a photo of the repair .. this broke all the way across before I tried to fix it.
