This is a quick build for a friend who is planning to put her N Scale Railroad up. I had a photo of one of her father's (he having a large HO Rail in his basement) rides. I'm calling it a 1955 ... and it's a Classic Metal Works White SP with Harley Davidson markings. Some new tanks mounted behind the model's position, stripping the paint and detailing back up. The silver trim pad printed areas worry me most. I should be able to improve the fit of grill to body. Everything pretty much dropped apart. The body has a crush pin on it to attach the chassis. Easily chipped away. It even has an interior!

I took Lapazeo's advice and looked up Classic Metal Works. They were not producing the White currently so I went to ebay. There were two old White's, a single and a double axel cab, so the single is mine now! This is pretty amazing detail for mass produced N scale ... 1/160! A quick look what I got .. Thanks for all the guidance narrowing it down to this! I;ll put a link here to the build when it goes live. build

Most excellent! I see the shotgun window is down .. !

A quick one to show the body in first primer to see where it needs bodywork ... it looks like a car now.

I always liked this car and will enjoy watching you put one together.

Removing hard rubber promo tires from rims? ..DONE!
Foxer replied to Foxer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I really appreciate all the suggestions generously given and the tires are now off the wheels! I made a press as suggested with a bottom of a pill bottle and a piece of a 3/4 plastic pipe. It all fit in my clamp and most went thru the process well, the hard tire softening under a heat gun as I slowly cranked down on the clamp. One wheel got a bit too hot and deformed but it will not affect the final piece. The original rims will be used only as wheel backs. Some resin rims fit perfectly in the tires from the front. The clamp also deformed on the last wheel with the pivoting end prying lose .. the clamp is dead. -
I've been working constantly with getting the wheels and tires apart, research and small repairs. The tires are very hard rubber I ended up with a press (an idea suggested in this thread) that slowly forced the wheel thru the tire as I heated the tire with a heat gun. In the end it all worked well. I received some 20" Torque Thrust resin wheel fronts that fit these 1/20 tires beautifully and will simulate the JC Whitney fake mag hubcaps I had on the 1:1 well. The backs will be the back half of the promo wheels painted black. The body had the chip broken off the drivers door and the rear part of the rocker panel where the body and chassis butted to repair. I made a mold of the rocker panel pattern with RTV putty and cast the rocker panel with Bondex. I cut out small sections of the rocker panels square and glued in pieces of the Bondex rocker.

This is just looking good!

In addition to your magnificent weathering I appreciate the incite to the Air Trax kit. There's just not enough on them on this board.

most excellent!

I tried once but for a single barrel I couldn't find a casting of. It didn't come out that great, but it would have improved the 2nd time if I tried. Carbs have very small detail at 1/25 and the main reason so many are very simplified. Like any scratchbuilt part you just have to break it down into basic shapes and fit them all together. There are some really nice after market carbs around that had to have masters made to start with. Take a look thru this thread for carbs .. This is a link to the carb I attempted, just for reference

There are many threads addressing the things you asked about .. just Google them .. like these .. "site:modelcarsmag.com paint strip" Paint strip Shock Absorber

Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........
Foxer replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
my popcorn is just not lasting long for this build. .. beautiful! -
Nothing you learn during this should be considered a "bad learning experience". All learning experiences are good. Your starting cost is zero .. dollars or pounds. You state you new to modeling, so there's pretty much nothing to lose and all to gain here. Have fun with this and there are many here to ask when you hit a tough spot. Enjoy the trip.

Painting small or awkward parts
Foxer replied to danman6677's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
alligator clips on a length of sprue with a hook at the end hangs well for me. I stick tape to wide, flat stick for many parts. Sometimes I drill a small brass rod in a part to hold it. I only remember one instance that these methods wouldn't hold a part and needed two sessions to cover. -
I've found brass tube works well. If it's a bit tight I'll drill the wheel out. If it's too loose, drill wheel out for next size up tube and slip the tube you started with in. Lately I seem to be replacing all wheel mounting with short pieces of brass, aluminum or plastic rod. Some combination work for putting any wheel on any axle, so you should be able to get something that works.

a jewel of an engine!

That is a great idea in concept and execution. A convenient lid .. about 24 " square?

How about dropping some examples here, Jim? This thread is meant for everyone to chart their experiences with this new product to the hobby.
