What Do I Do?

Well... wait a while. Once you've built a couple of those other subjects going back to one you've already built can be a nice project. -
What Do I Do?

Well, I'm guessing the guy who sent it to you wanted you to build it. So... build it. -
Anyone want an Indian Jeep?
Chuck Most replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Took them long enough- they've been planning this for almost a decade. -
This project began many years ago, and stalled out for quite some time. It began with a '20's Oldsmobile chassis (Beverly Hillbillies kit) set up on some Radir mags and wide whites. A chopped '41 Chevy cab from Jimmy Flintstone and a '36 Ford truck grille from Drag City casting were also used, along with a homemade bed. I had originally planned for the rod to be powered by a straight eight, but I figured if a straight eight would fit, so would a V16. It wasn't quite as straightforward as I'd have wanted, but the '31 Cadillac mill slid into the frame with a little work. Some Replicas and Miniatures Stromberg carbs were installed.

I love it! That's one way to get around having to stretch the nose for a Honda swap.

They have to start out all clean and non-stinky. -

For me, Lars' bone-stock Land Rover would be a challenging enough build. You nailed this one. -
I might have to get a set of your decals just as an excuse to convert one of the incomplete Force 440 Dodge kits I have.

I do have a "Ted Nelson Plumbing and Heating" van planned to commemorate my favorite MST3K episode.

This is a model I originally built about ten years ago. It's a never-was SHO variant of the Probe, built using the AMT kit with the engine, transaxle, and wheels from the Taurus SHO. At some point the hood came up missing, so the model got tucked away and spend years getting coated in dust and cobwebs. A few weeks back I cleaned it off, and last night I painted an extra hood, fixed the droopy interior tub, added a license plate, and slapped it all back together. It's not my best work and it still needs a little more dust removal but it looks way better than it did! I have no idea what silver I used on it originally- the Testors Diamond Dust I used for the new hood is a shade or two lighter than the body. Whatever... I'm guessing that now that I've gone through all the trouble, the original hood will turn up any minute now...

This was on of those "getting rid of spares" kind of projects. I had a couple of incomplete AMT/Ertl Taurus SHO kits, and a crusty old All American Models wagon body, so I decided to combine them into a post-apoc model. Sad thing is I did not modify the suspension- that's about how high an early AMT Taurus kit will sit if you build it right out of the box. Other than the armor and screen much of it is out of the box. The Omega symbols on the doors came from Warrior Of The Lost World, a really bad Italian Mad Max ripoff starring Robert Ginty (The Exterminator), Persis Khambatta (Ilea from Star Trek The Motion Picture), Donald Pleasence (Dr. Loomis from the Halloween movies) and Fred "The Hammer" Williamson of M*A*S*H* and countless other exploitation and B movies.

You know, I'd have been way more interested in an R8 with '58 Chevy underpinnings. But this will work too.

If you want to split hairs, you could say that the early Super Stock Mopars started it. They had leaf springs that placed the axle forward of the standard location... by a whole whopping inch. Things sort of escalated from there.

On second thought- one thing I do miss are actual model names. As much as I love my Lincoln MKZ... MKZ sounds less like a car name and more like an ingredient in soup I should stay away from. The MKZ was called Zephyr it's first year on the market, but that is kind of a silly name for a modern car. Probably why they went to MKZ. But even if it's a silly or downright stupid model name, I could give them a point or two for trying.

Wait a sec... Mike... did you figure out the whole "posting pics so people will think you build" thing??? -
If I had a 1:1 classic Mini it would probably look something like this. Mine might have the early stamped steel grille though.

Wait... GM is taking a chance? They're actually trying to do something kind of innovative with the Corvette? I mean, they'e about 35 years too late, but God bless 'em.

I have that box somewhere- a little beat up and somebody smeared silver paint on one corner. The kit itself was partially built up and has since been dispersed all over the place but the box is still around.

There's no d at the end of Advance. Sorry- I worked there for five years and it always got on my nerves. That being said- I don't see too much of a problem. I always bought my DupliColor from the local Meijer. Their cost was less than what it would have been from Advance with my employee discount, and they often had buy one get one half off sales. I know not everybody has a Meijer in the area, but if you look around I'd think you'd be shocked how much less you can get it for than at Advance. Or any other auto parts chain really- seems like the auto body stuff is always pretty dearly priced when you go to an auto parts store.

Same here. I just posted twice in the light commercial Under Glass section, including the post that was giving my trouble, and all was fine.
