I'm rich, I'm rich, I'm rich!!!!
Chuck Most replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got a stack of the Lincolns, too! Thing is, I've never paid more than $20 for any one of them, and I have no plans of ever spending much more than that. No '40 Ford pickups in my stash though (sort of strange now that I think of that), but I doub't I'd pay much more than that for one of the trucks. I do wish this guy luck, though. But I won't be helping his cause! -
How I spent the weekend- This is the 'new' AMT kit, with a '64/65 Revell hood, and a long bed, front and rear bumpers, and grille from an old resin kit. I lowered it, added the custom wheels and tires from a '60 Ford Starliner, and dropped in a 5.7 Liter Hemi from a junked '05 Chrysler 300C.

Thread for Ideas for New Topics/Categories
Chuck Most replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree- it's not a bad idea! Lots of modelers like to hack into factory built diecasts! Why not? -
Holy hinges! Or should I say, in your case, UNholy hinges? This one's going to be killer, indeed.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeesss! A 2010 'Stang! Hey, look! There are other models on the list too! I'll have to check those out once I pry my eyes off the Mustang.

I picked these up in a goodie bin at Dean's Hobby Stop- they were in a Ziplock baggie with ''60 Chevy P/U' scrawled on it in permanent marker. I thought at first they were from AAM, but the castings are quite a bit more rough than most of the AAM stuff I have seen. Lots of pinholes and flash, which I haven't seen too much of on AAM castings. Can anybody tell me who manufacured these and aproximately when?

Okay, so not all my 429s are of the 'Boss' persuasion, but I do have a couple! Here goes- Here we've got a '69 T-Bird mild custom, built by plopping an Allison Thunderland body atop the chassis of a Model King '71 T-Bird kit. Next up is this beater '70 Galaxie. Her's a lifted '79 F-350 with a built 429. And, it appears I have no pictures of them, but I have a Monogram '70 Boss 429, and a Cadillac Fire Rescue ambulance, both of which are 429 powered.
-
I did something similar a few years back- sorry for the crappy pictures! This is the AMT kit. My next one will be a Talladega, and hopefully a much better build with much better pictures. I have no idea why Ford never offered the Boss 429 in the Torino chassis- seemed like it would have been a no-brainer for NASCAR, and would've given Ford a contender to go against the midsize Hemi Mopars.

Some of it appears to be dust buildup, but I peeled it off on a few models and it's yellowed underneath, as well. I was thinking it could be the adhesive, but how could it get through the foil? Or could that yellowing on the 'sticky' side just be yellowing clearcoat pulling off? I usually don't apply a clearcoat, then add the foil, then clear over that. The yellowing underneath is kind of what's bugging me now, since the non-clearcoated foil cleaned up pretty well. Maybe my house is built on cursed land?
-
Some are in cases, but most are not. The ones in cases are faring much better than the others, but a few in the cases are yellowing as well. I thought about the clearcoat yellowing, and that may be the case on many of them, but it's yellowed on a few models that have no clearcoat over the foil. I usually clearcoat over BMF to help it stay in place, and give it a little extra shine. Nobody smokes in the house, so I can pretty much rule that one out. On the other hand, the house was built in 1903, so who really knows what's lurking around in the air? I'll try polishing the foil on the non-clearcoated models and seeing if that helps. I've always got Meguiar's Scratch X at the ready! Thanks for the info Bob! And you aren't the first person who's told me they've never seen yellowing BMF before!

Looks pretty cool. One thing- why are the Santa hats green? Or are they elves?
-
Looking very cool so far- I've planning to build a rat wrecker around that cab I chopped in the January issue- this ought to prove inspiring!
-
I just wish they'd tossed in a new set of 8-bolt XLT full wheel covers for this, but I'll probably still be buying a few of these. As far as I can tell- the seat isn't the right one for the Super Cab- the seat looks more like a regular cab piece to me. Then again, I'm no expert on the '87-'91 generation of this body style, so maybe I have no room to comment on that! This is one of Monogram's best efforts, IMO!

I've been shuffling around some of my older models the last few days, and I've noticed that the BMF trim on many of them has begun to turn yellow. Is there anything I can do to minimize this, or eliminate it altogether, or is it just something I have to learn to live with? These builds are all from 3 or 4 (or more) years ago, the other, more recent builds seem to be faring much better, but are still starting to turn.

One of my favorite designs from Ma Mopar, and the fact it's a wagon makes it sweeter! Great color combination and a clean build. Awesome!

Today is 4/26......so how about a 426?
Chuck Most replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Man, it's a shame I'm more into the older Hemis! I guess I'll wait til 4/29, and show off my one and only Boss! -
Hey, George? Remember- I briefly toyed with stuffing the Stovebolt six from a Galaxie '46 Sedan into it. Glad I went this route, though!

In case you haven't noticed, I'm pretty tired of the 'Chevy-in-a-Ford'- thing. So lately I've been on a strange, borderline psychotic quest to stab any and all non Chevrolet engines into any Chevrolet chassis I can find. Here's the latest result- It's the AMT '32 Chevy cabriolet, that was converted into a coupe by using the modified roof from an AMT Boyd Coddington American Hot Rod '32 Ford (a modified reissue of the old Switchers kit). The roof had to be widended to fit, as well as reshaped and given new bodylines. The tops of the doors and the bodylines on the body also were reworked. I painted the body with hammer-tone silver to roughen things up a bit, and sprayed on some scallops in Chrysler Industrial Red, outlined with School Bus Yellow. The chassis is the '32 Chevy piece, Z'd in front and fitted with a Ford-style buggy spring front suspension setup from a Revell Deuce. The Revell Deuce also coughed up the headlamps, Ford 9" rear axle, and the taillamps. Front wheels and tires are courtesy of a '62 Catalina, and the rear slicks and solid Halibrands are from the tin box Double Dragster. The engine is the AMT Parts Pack 392 Chrysler Hemi, and is mostly box stock. I did add a belt drive for an alternator, and I used an air cleaner from an AMT '62 Fairlane annual kit, and the headers from an AMT boat kit. The engine is painted Chrysler Industrial Red. Inside is all business- stock dash, cut down stock bench seat, and a shifter and steering wheel from a custom '60 Starliner. It's a mix of flat black on the floor, and more Chrysler red on the dash and door panels. This is the third MPC/AMT '32 Chev I have built, and I've already got a few more in the pipeline. I think the next one might be a conversion into a 2-door sedan. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

The Elusive 1904 Knox Waterless Truck project
Chuck Most replied to Art Anderson's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have the MPC version of this kit- I never knew it was reissued under the AMT/Ertl name. I think this kit does have the Wisconsin Beaver engine, but I don't remember. I was never even aware that the Bearcat had a Waukesha engine, all the books I have list the Wisconsin engine. (Grain of salt, I only have two books in my collection containing any info on Bearcats! ) I've still got the engine from the Stutz- one of these days I want to build a truck around it. -

I think the sketch is pretty cool, and I'd love to see it done in 3D- small or full scale!

The Elusive 1904 Knox Waterless Truck project

I've been wondering what ever happened to the Knox project, Art. Good to see you are still going at it! Better still, good to see progress!
