I've been shuffling around some of my older models the last few days, and I've noticed that the BMF trim on many of them has begun to turn yellow. Is there anything I can do to minimize this, or eliminate it altogether, or is it just something I have to learn to live with? These builds are all from 3 or 4 (or more) years ago, the other, more recent builds seem to be faring much better, but are still starting to turn.

One of my favorite designs from Ma Mopar, and the fact it's a wagon makes it sweeter! Great color combination and a clean build. Awesome!

Today is 4/26......so how about a 426?
Chuck Most replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Man, it's a shame I'm more into the older Hemis! I guess I'll wait til 4/29, and show off my one and only Boss! -
Hey, George? Remember- I briefly toyed with stuffing the Stovebolt six from a Galaxie '46 Sedan into it. Glad I went this route, though!

In case you haven't noticed, I'm pretty tired of the 'Chevy-in-a-Ford'- thing. So lately I've been on a strange, borderline psychotic quest to stab any and all non Chevrolet engines into any Chevrolet chassis I can find. Here's the latest result- It's the AMT '32 Chevy cabriolet, that was converted into a coupe by using the modified roof from an AMT Boyd Coddington American Hot Rod '32 Ford (a modified reissue of the old Switchers kit). The roof had to be widended to fit, as well as reshaped and given new bodylines. The tops of the doors and the bodylines on the body also were reworked. I painted the body with hammer-tone silver to roughen things up a bit, and sprayed on some scallops in Chrysler Industrial Red, outlined with School Bus Yellow. The chassis is the '32 Chevy piece, Z'd in front and fitted with a Ford-style buggy spring front suspension setup from a Revell Deuce. The Revell Deuce also coughed up the headlamps, Ford 9" rear axle, and the taillamps. Front wheels and tires are courtesy of a '62 Catalina, and the rear slicks and solid Halibrands are from the tin box Double Dragster. The engine is the AMT Parts Pack 392 Chrysler Hemi, and is mostly box stock. I did add a belt drive for an alternator, and I used an air cleaner from an AMT '62 Fairlane annual kit, and the headers from an AMT boat kit. The engine is painted Chrysler Industrial Red. Inside is all business- stock dash, cut down stock bench seat, and a shifter and steering wheel from a custom '60 Starliner. It's a mix of flat black on the floor, and more Chrysler red on the dash and door panels. This is the third MPC/AMT '32 Chev I have built, and I've already got a few more in the pipeline. I think the next one might be a conversion into a 2-door sedan. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

The Elusive 1904 Knox Waterless Truck project
Chuck Most replied to Art Anderson's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have the MPC version of this kit- I never knew it was reissued under the AMT/Ertl name. I think this kit does have the Wisconsin Beaver engine, but I don't remember. I was never even aware that the Bearcat had a Waukesha engine, all the books I have list the Wisconsin engine. (Grain of salt, I only have two books in my collection containing any info on Bearcats! ) I've still got the engine from the Stutz- one of these days I want to build a truck around it. -

I think the sketch is pretty cool, and I'd love to see it done in 3D- small or full scale!

Sunday, but only because I usually don't work Sundays. -
The Elusive 1904 Knox Waterless Truck project

I've been wondering what ever happened to the Knox project, Art. Good to see you are still going at it! Better still, good to see progress! -
Is that "Mr. Hobby" kit the same as the Gunze Sangyo '56 kit? It looks eerily similar. Love the model!

For what it's worth, the grille detail on this one looks quite a bit better than the AMT rendition. Maybe that makes up for the wheel opening issues? I'll parrot what Bob said: "it LOOKS like a '62 Chevy". I can live with a few minor gripes, as long as I can tell what kind of car it's supposed to be. I've long maintained that if, say, the door handles are ten microns too low on the doors but the model still looks like a '62 Chevy, it's good. On the other hand, if the kit is so full of hiccups and poor execution it looks more like, oh, a '62 Studebaker, THEN there's a problem. No kit ever has been, or ever will be, 100% perfect. I've grown to accept that!

Here's a really dumb model!
Chuck Most replied to Modelmartin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's a fine line between stupid and brilliant. The Mini Rig does a silly little chicken dance on that line! -
You're. The thing YOU'RE best at is hosing people on trades. Now, back to the matter at hand... I'm not sure about the stake bed on a custom, but it just might work. I'd also say the top needs to be chopped- maybe three or four scale inches. I'd lower it, as well. How much kind of depends on whether you want it to represent a custom truck that still 'works for a living' or not. I'd definitely go with orange for the cab. Man- I am still not sure on the stake sides, but a flatbed would certainly be cool. Then again, I'd really need to see the actual buildup with the stake bed before I could cast a final verdict.

Whoa... when did they tool up a '38 nose!? Gotta get me a case o' these! As usual, Moose, they're lookers!

Looks like a nice kit. Like lots of Revell's new stuff, I doubt I'll personally buy one, but I can see this one being a huge sucess for them. I like the AMT Bubbletop version, even though the base of the rear roof post is a little wrong, judging from the pictures you posted this one looks similar in terms of detail. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go and brood over why they couldn't have kitted a Mohs SafariKar instead of this!

This one's more stupid. Wait... no, I mean more stupider. No, no... sorry, most stupiderest! Sad thing is, though, it's the typical 1:1 Hummer owner's fantasy! -
Hot Rods = World Peace

Well, not if you're talking long-term corporate viability, dependability, and/or customer satisfaction! -
Hot Rods = World Peace
Chuck Most replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It is a great idea, and it may well curb some of the animosity in the world, but I'm not sure it would kill it entirely. Still, I like your thinking! -
Dave's right- all the so-called tire shops in my area seem to pay no heed to directional tread. Once, when we got one of our company vehicles back from getting new tires, the shop somehow managed to put both tires on one side backwards. Even though there's a big huge arrow that points which way the tires are supposed to face on the sidewall.

Dudes.... we're not going real or model THIS time! We're trying to figure out what kind of car is in the picture! I have no idea what it is- some kind of CMC product (AMC's Commie cousin corporation) I think.

Yes- with hard work and determination. I.E.... to much for my lazy arse to comprehend!
