1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue
SteveG replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That part was copied straight from the original kit but obviously it's not correct. Hopefully it will be revised with the other pending changes. -Steve- 216 replies

1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue

It's actually a separate part now, it will most likely be on a new plated parts tree. -Steve- 216 replies

1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue
SteveG replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
In a nutshell, Casey is correct and it's very similar to what was done with 64 Olds F-85. The mockups that have been shown are combination of the initial batch of 3D printed parts combined with 66 Coupe kit for the rest other than the glass that now resides with the A/FX kit. The 3D parts are still a work in progress. The goal is a vintage style 66 Mustang GT Fastback kit complete with retro-packaging. The Coupe kit is not being altered in any significant way and can be reissued at a later date. The Fastback parts are being copied from a mint original annual kit with a few modest improvements. This will not be a state-of-the-art all-new tool. -Steve- 216 replies

Most likely the 66 Mustang Coupe's plated parts tree will stay the same including the wheel covers and the GT chrome parts will be on a new tree similar to what was done the 64 Olds Cutlass and 442 kits. -Steve- 216 replies

I don't really follow the Sci-fi products but I'm pretty sure they acquired the tooling from Revell, they're not brand-new tooling. -Steve
-
It will have the GT foglamp grille and the same interior bucket as what was in the annual Fastback kit, both are direct copies. The Polyglas GT's were used just for size. The final tire choices have not been made yet. Steve

The new tool Movie Car has not been announced yet as the Mockup has not been completed yet. There's is also another unannounced cloning project underway that is in the mockup stage, but the mockups weren't completed before the video was made. So, you can expect more news later this year. -Steve

As best as I can figure, the Annual Fastback kit was scavenged over pretty hard to make the AFX kit, about the only part to survive intact was the glass which will make back into this version. Luckily the current Coupe kit underpinnings are close enough to make it all work with minimal revisions. In my opinion getting the Fastback restored was long overdue so now we have it. -Steve

No need to wait, anything not required specifically to make it a Fastback GT will be carried over from the current Coupe kit. It's not an all-new tool. There will be a few improvements like clear headlamps and a separate gas cap and we're getting the Styled Steel GT wheels added in. The overall design of the original annual Fastback kit is very similar but not quite identical to the current Coupe kit with exception to the optional custom and racing parts. -Steve

Don't be shy, tell us what other modern new cars should be done as model kits.

Ford C800 Gar-Wood Load Packer. It's Happening!
SteveG replied to chuckyr's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I built one of the first rolling chassis for use with new the Garwood Body using some 3D printed mockup parts that included new frame rail using a C600 delivery truck kit as the doner for the rest. The frames were definitely different lengths and just about everything behind the cab mounted in a different location. I didn't take any photos, as this was last year sometime before it was officially announced. Maybe Tim can explain the specifics since he built the test shots. -Steve -
Yes, it's a leftover part from a previous version but surprisingly it fits in the opening fairly well. I actually like it better than the Greewood bumper-grille part. -Steve

They were added to the Greenwood GT Corvette issue, there's another set of heads too. I guess they were trying to make it look like a big block engine. Funky is a good description for a lot of the GT Corvette pieces they added back in 1973. It's a Custom now right so I guess it's whatever you want them to be. Steve

Here's some photos of the contents. Not shown on the instructions are some leftover parts from the Greenwood kit including the removable top, side exhaust and B.F. Goodrich sidewall caps. There're also some supercharger parts left from the ACcelerator kit. -Steve

That was exactly my take on this kit when I first saw an early test shot of it. Here's a couple of the first mockups that were used for evaluation purposes and to help decide on what would be used for the box art. I'll post some photos of the contents soon. -Steve

Yes, they are the Hurst Mags with Goodyear Polyglas tires, Red line on one side and Gold line on the other. I'm sure Chad will show them off in Jan. 2022 video since he overlooked them this time. -Steve

Rob, I believe that this is all the versions that has been done so far, maybe it's the Ground Shaker you're thinking of. Steve

Casey is correct, it's not part of the stamp series. It will be the '77 Pinto hatchback with decals and box art for the USPS Livery, something similar to the photo. Steve

To be clear, the recently released 63 Chevy II wagon kits are best described as reproduction. They may be based on the original design but the tooling is 100% new. No previously existing tooling was used in it's production. What's left of the original tool still exist as the "Boss Nova" mid engine drag wagon. It was modified past the point of any restoration. They don't share anything. In comparison, the Supernatural Impala kit is considered a Modified reissue. It contains some new tooling but the rest is from the Impala SS kit first issued around '97. Unlike the "Boss Nova" Wagon the Impala SS version can be still be reissued in the future as the Supernatural specific parts are in addition to the existing tooling. -Steve

It's not the Mako Shark, I can tell you that much. -Steve

Working Around Red Plastic?
SteveG replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Peter is right, your rag test isn't exactly how plastic colorants are tested for things like bleed fastness, the solvent fastness of pigments or the solvent solubility of dyes. There are actual standard lab tests for those real issues in the plastics industry. Natural high impact polystyrene or HIPS is actually a very translucent white so all model parts other then the water clear items have some colorant added to them. Anyone who has tried to paint over brightly colored polystyrene with solvent based products and didn't have a problem, consider yourself lucky. After I switched to collision repair grade paints, I stopped attempting to paint over anything molded in brightly molded colors, especially red or yellow. It only took a couple of failures to learn my lesson. I can tell you the reactions I saw had nothing to do with the opaqueness of the finishes I was using. For the record if it's not clear already, I'm no fan of molding kits in any heavily colored plastic. But if the boss says there's still going to be some kits molded in color that's what going to happen. Not everybody can or wants to paint to their model builds. -Steve -
I believe the concept they went with is a Show Car Hauler for Ed Roth, what your not seeing is a yet to be announced matching trailer. A close look at the graphics on the rear of the cab lists some of his custom cars. -Steve

Ford C800 Gar-Wood Load Packer. It's Happening!
SteveG replied to chuckyr's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Don't forget that the Cab portion still needs to work with all the previous issues that are still viable. It should be fairly accurate for a '71 or '72 model based on when it was first released. Considering the basic body style ran for 33 years, even if they changed some details to earlier or later model trucks, there always will be someone saying they picked wrong. -Steve
