No talk about the Round2 1971 Dodge Demon ?
SteveG replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Interior tub is basically the same as the original, so it still has the console. Shifter has been revised to a 4-speed style copied from a 71 Demon that was in the Volo Collection that had both. Based on the way you asked the question the factory choice was either one or the other? If so, I guess you can consider it a Day 2 aftermarket modification. -Steve -
Clear Over Polished Gold Metallic
SteveG replied to dmbgamer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Novus products definitely contain silicates, you'll get terrible fisheyes in the clear if you attempt to paint over it. I stopped using Novus products after I ruined a perfectly good paint job that way. I would just enjoy it as is unless you want to strip it and start over. Anything strong enough to remove the silicone will probably damage your decals and or paint job. I switched to Silicone free, Bodyshop safe polishes after that mistake. -Steve -
Still no Poyglas or Wide Oval tire kits.
SteveG replied to Mike C.'s topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
For those who are a fan our Big and Little branded white letter tires, be sure to grab the AMTPP034 Firestone Wide Oval sets while they are still available. I'm not sure if there will be another run of these. Just a heads up. -Steve -
Really well-done Randy, I'm glad you enjoyed building it. -Steve
-
Yes, GT style C-stripes in both Black and White. -Steve
-
I think you'll find that a number of parts that were blocked off for the RC2 issue have been restored back for this re-issue. There will also be a nice new expanded decal sheet too. -Steve
-
Yes, build versions are Stock, Telephone Truck, Frisco Sleeper and TTT Wheel stander. -Steve
-
Unfortunately, no. The owner of the Kalkaska, MI facility decided to sell it off around two years ago giving us short notice. Now the tooling storage and production that was once in one place in MI is now split between storage and molding facilities outside of Chicago. -Steve

I've been trying to get the Touch Tone Terror version of the Dodge A-100 reissued for at least 15 years, going back to my days working with Lindberg. The biggest problem is in the higher US production costs. For now, the cost of adding something like a new Van body or even retooling up a dozen parts is just too expensive here. I have had all kinds of plans for expanding the better Lindberg designed kits, all of those are on hold now. It came down to producing the TTT without the missing clear booth parts or face having it cancelled altogether. I already had one US based item cancelled this year due to cost factors and didn't want to lose another one. Who knows, one day we might just be opening up some other old tooling crates and we'll find the missing phone booth inserts. It's happened before. Maybe in the future we will offer downloadable files for all kinds of cool printable things, It's certainly possible. In the meantime, I'd be surprised if the 3D aftermarket doesn't fill in the gaps in some our new products. I see new items being presented just about every day now. It's more than I can keep up with. -Steve
-
Nothing to do with the cost of the plastic, the phone booth is made up of about a dozen pieces requiring a decent size and expensive new mold. It is also a very fiddley design. Gluing individual clear parts is hard enough, this phone booth is almost all clear parts. See the instruction sheet below. Instead, we're including a printed prop phone booth that's relatively easy to assemble. -Steve
-
Yes, being brought back but without the clear phone booth parts. It will part of the printed items instead. The cost to retool those new parts in the U.S. is too expensive to make it work The rest of the parts are back including the telephone truck rack parts. All the plastic parts will be molded in the US. -Steve

No talk about the Round2 1971 Dodge Demon ?
SteveG replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks Mark, not everyone is lucky enough to have the original kit to compare it to. I lost count on how many improvements were made to it over the original design. I'm hoping that the new '71 Demon kit will be looked at in the same light as the Coronet. It too will have numerous improvements over the original issue. -Steve -
Hi Casey, I never paint anything on the test shots, those are actually vinyl tires and I believe they were retooled for this kit. The recent '64 F85 Convertible and 442 Hardtop kits both have the newer Firestone Supreme tires, no drag tires. There's been no announcement of any follow up AWB kits yet .... -Steve

No talk about the Round2 1971 Dodge Demon ?
SteveG replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Take a look through the latter half of the thread on the AMT Supernatural '67 Impala to get an idea of the difficulties in updating one of the Mueller era kits. One board participant referred to it as "unbuildable" although most here were certainly kinder in their review. Converting the Duster tooling to a Demon is just not as easy as one would think. -Steve -
AMT 1/25 2021 Bronco First Edition
SteveG replied to Jordan White's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The First Edition was limited production run and only available in 2021 and is basically a fully loaded Wildtrak with the Sasquatch Package and special First Edition graphics and available in just five colors. It's not in the current brochures as it no longer available to order. -Steve -
Thanks To AMT For The New Technology Old Kits
SteveG replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Here's my take on how this breaks down, Round2, Moebius, Revell Etc. own the copyrights to all their printed materials. Box art, decals, instruction sheets and related advertising. The car designs all belong to the full-size manufactures and those likenesses are licensed through their agents. There are numerous car and truck subjects that have been covered by multiple kit makers over the years. As long as they are not an exact copy of existing product as I understand things it would not be a problem. So, in theory we could scan an any existing body or even a full kit and go from there as long as we have a licensing agreement on the chosen subject matter. -Steve -
Thanks To AMT For The New Technology Old Kits
SteveG replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for all the kind words and the support. Nothing in my job description requires me to participate in in any social media. I do it because I want to. Somethings I'm free to discuss, and what I can't talk about I don't. There is wealth of knowledge here and in the other groups that I participate in. I appreciate all the comments and even the constructive criticisms. Some have led to specific product changes. I try to use it all for the greater good. None of what I'm doing is easy but at this point in my life I can't think of another job I'd rather be doing. -Steve- 35 replies

Both good ideas but the kit is already in production, in fact I think they may have shipped already. -Steve -
New Round2 / AMT 1970 Buick Wildcat Hardtop. Craftsman Plus KIt
SteveG replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The '70 Buick Wildcat was first issued as part of the Motor City Stocker Series. There was also a '70 Chevelle, '70 Monte Carlo, '70 Torino Cobra, '70 T-Bird and the '70 Ford LTD. All were basically un-assembled promo kits. I believe the T-bird was updated to the '71 and the LTD became the '70 Galaxie Police Car. The '70 Buick was the only one to survive unchanged, re-issued in '07 in the Model King packaging. The others just disappeared. If you're a diehard Buick fan make sure you grab the Model King issue if you can find one, the Sean Svendsen designed decal sheet is beautiful with all sorts of extra Buick related goodies. The upcoming kit is AMT1379 and will be in the Craftsman Plus packaging with a nice new decal sheet and a unique set of double line whitewall tires not currently available in any other kit. -Steve -
It's on my to do list with bunch of other that need the tooling inserts reconfigured in order to make an older version. In this case I believe it shares tooling with one of the Camaro's. -Steve

The spacers were removed so the deeper fastback interior would fit, and the spacers are now under the coupe's interior tub. You can see those changes in the special run of the 1966 Coupe kit we did for VRC Hobbies. It's kit number CP8027. The 10 spoke mag wheels were also revised so that are all now the same width. -Steve
