I might add that Bburago scales are like a box of chocolates. Based on factory measurements, the supposedly 1:18 Bugatti T59 is closer to 1:15-14. It appears that Bburago Classic diecasts, from the Bugattis to the Alfas to the Mercedes SSK, are scaled so that the one-size-fits-all wire wheels can be used for any of them. And some people here who build smaller kits have mentioned that some companies fudge scale a bit so they can fit in existing box sizes.

The thing is, like many other kits such as the XK-120 from Monogram, the Bburago main body shell is the only part that's metal; all other parts are plastic including classic fenders, so it's a personal definition as to whether or not it's a plastic kit or a metal kit. But there's a lot more metal in a Hubley classic kit.

It strikes me that the difference between 1:24 US and 1:25 European kits may have something to do with scale conversions vis-a-vis our measurement system and the metric system.

I have a few 1/18 kit versions of Bburago diecasts, such as the Bugatti T59 and Alfa Zagato 1750. Tamiya has also made several 1/18 race car kits. Some of Bburago's 1/18 kits, like the XK-E, have been co-branded with Testors.

I managed to track down the original tram (triebwagen 40) at www.tramdepot14.de Evidently photographed at one point in its life with some sort of cow catcher. You probably already found it, but I thought there might be some cues there for a base.

I have a couple of first issues of Johan's Gold Cup kit of the Mercedes 500K Special Roadster Limousine, which has outstanding chrome, even perfectly done on the excellent wire wheels. The reissue (not identified as Gold Cup) is terrible, with incomplete chrome coverage over red plastic, and lots of flash.

The interior doesn't look anything close to white to me. I'd say it's a medium/light gray with a dark charcoal (not pure black).

The leather work is just fantastic.

Just because I survived all those ill-advised practices doesn't mean that there weren't kids who didn't survive.

My only experience of attending F1 races in person was at the French and British races in 1968. I was surprised at how high-pitched and bee-like the engines sounded. And yes, they were dangerous -- at the French Grand Prix, Jo Schlesser spun out past the curve where I was standing, rolled up a hill and burst into flames, killing himself and some spectators. Fortunately, most of the scene except for the flames and smoke was obscured from my sight by trees, so I didn't know exactly what was happening at the moment. But you don't want to know what the smell was like; it involved more than burning fuel and auto parts. EDIT... Evidently, his Honda was a brand-new car with lots of magnesium parts including the chassis, which was largely responsible for it burning so quickly. The car was first offered to Surtees, who turned it down because he thought it was too dangerous.

I did the exact same 1950s fiberglass sports car and it didn't turn up for me.

The Danbury and Franklin cars are also excellent assembly kit donors. There is no affordable kit of the Bugatti Atlantic -- only a very rudimentary kit version of the Bburago diecast -- but the Franklin Bugatti Atalante T57 SC has an awesome chassis/engine/interior setup and has the exact same wheelbase. Shouldn't be hard to put the Bburago Atlantic body on it, or swap parts depending on which source you want to go with.

Usually, it's not a problem of running out of bandwidth, though it occasionally is. In most cases, it's because the original PB link was deleted or moved (thereby changing the link), perhaps refiled in another album. As Harry mentioned, he's been using free PB with a large amount of material for over 20 ears and no problems.

Nobody said you can't have both. Try them and see what works best for you.
