Excellent work. What kit is it?

One can get licensing for anything if one really trys.
sjordan2 replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I don't really get what your question is. If this particular car has been licensed for sale by GM -- particularly for multiple copies for profit -- then that's necessary to avoid a lawsuit. If it's a one-of-a-kind custom, licensing would not be needed. The precedent is the Ferrari Miami Vice replica line of kit and built Daytona Spiders, which Ferrari's lawyers stomped all over. Now, the word "Ferrari" cannot be used on eBay for any existing copies of that car. Ford has authorized steel body aftermarket parts for some of their products, such as the 1940 Ford coupe. No telling what the costs for factory approval might be. -
I don't even bother with these kind of cars anymore.

It would be surprising if Ecclestone doesn't go to jail after a bribery trial in Germany (unless he has to pay the largest personal fine in history), but there are plenty of qualified people in F1 management. Mr. Ecclestone is not the sort of person most people would like to claim as a personal friend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Ecclestone

3D printing growing as we speak
sjordan2 replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Brian, you brought some real sanity and knowledge to this discussion. There's no telling how long it will take for 3D printers to provide the price/performance value that modelers desire, but I think that aftermarket vendors can make a decent produict available far in advance of that, with a substantial investment. I don't think Shapeways is there yet, but they may be in the near future. In the meantime, interested modelers will need to learn the software to provide to those vendors to produce custom pieces. The only one of our members who seems to be doing this successfully is NormL, who is building an Ariel Atom, yet he still appears to have to go through a lot of trial and error and money, and we haven't heard from him in a long time. -
Good catch. While some other sporting cars of the era, notably Bugattis, might have negative camber on the front wheels, the Rolls would be totally vertical.

I recently printed out various woodgrain samples to a proper-looking scale. All of these samples can be downloaded/enlarged/reduced/cropped the way you want. Plus, you can adjust color, contrast, etc the way you want on most graphics programs that are already on your computer or printer. http://www.certainlywood.com/woodmenu2.cfm?p=6

Building season is over for me...

Take those brass nails and make a diamond-tufted bicycle seat. -
I keep hearing from Pocher builders that "nothing can be more satisfying than a Pocher model." From what I'm seeing, I agree. "Nothing" would be a lot more satisfying to me. My heartfelt admiration to all those who do this.

If this is your first model in a long time, you've done quite a job. Very nice work on the chrome trim.

Red Interiors....Difficult?

? Harry's dash looks like painted metal to me, but zaina's dash looks like vinyl. -
In any case, I've been enjoying the reset with new F1 cars. I was getting tired of the Sebastian Vettel Show.

I had to refine my search terms after my first go at "Jordan Playboy" returned some very hot shots of a Playboy Playmate named Jordan. That slowed me down a bit.

During today's Bahrain Grand Prix trials, they said that Ecclestone has blessed the Haas proposal and it's going forward. (I don't know if Stewart-Haas co-owner Tony Stewart is part of the deal or if it's just Haas.)

I can only find one thing wrong with this spectacular piece of work -- the 1:1 passengers thinking the top would protect them from the rain

Microsoft ending XP support on April 8
sjordan2 replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Switching to Mac is always a good choice, but Apple ceased support of my iMac 10.4 Core Duo OS years ago. They won't even upgrade the OS at the Apple store, so I'll have to go to a third party, and I'll have to double my installed memory to do so. The biggest downer for my limited needs is that I can only use the Safari browser, not Firefox or others, without upgrading my OS. Otherwise, everything still works fine. -
Once again, a spectacular piece of work. The wood parts of the interior are stunning. The kit wire wheels in this kit are better than the Aurora kits you cite, but your custom wheels change the game again. Your paint is awesome and downplays the problems with metallics at this scale -- the only other color that works well for me is a dark red, as seen on Wayne Carini's "Chasing Classic Cars" show on the Velocity channel cable TV here in the US.

Another trip in the wayback machine, Sherman...

I'll take your word for it. -
Will you wrap the springs in cord? That was common among other cars of the era.

That's also something that can be found in model train or military parts. Assembled chain up to 6" in length has been available from Grandt Line, but I'm sure Bob has info on PE chains, for assembly link by link and pin by pin. I have Grandt Line chain that's pretty nice, made in Delrin. I could really use smaller working chain for my Bugatti's brake cable system. This is Grandt Line Delrin chain, part # 70001, shown at about 200%. However, in trying to get the right web link, they say that this product, including sprockets, is temporarily discontinued (found under military model parts, which could be another source to search).
