  1. My first kit arrival from Amazon this year. It had free shipping and was still HS Tax free. This time it was shipped in a paper envelope. I lucked out in that there was only a minor crease in the box lid.
  2. Priscilla, Max or Lando or other? JK Welcome to the forum!
  3. Coincidence in that my first one was also from Hobby Lobby when I was down for an NNL East event. $8 and $9 is a steal! LOL
  4. I was pleasantly surprised that my Revell Land Rover Series III, from Amazon, was actually shipped in a box this time and not just a plastic envelope. Thanks to Zoom Zoom (Bob Downie) I learned that the opacity of Tamiya Base White (85101) was better than that of Tamiya Fine White Surface Primer (87044). I purchased some from a local Gundam focused store, Argama Hobby. These are my final two purchases for this year! LOL
  5. I stumbled on the Revell Land Rover Series III on Amazon for$39.99. No tax, free delivery and should have it in my hands tomorrow.
  6. As Les stated, Tamiya Pearl White is particularly transparent, more so than some of their other Pearl Colours. I did the body of my Mini TS-60 Pearl Green. The roof, which was a separate piece was TS-45 Pearl White. Both colours were over Tamiya Gray Primer. I had to shoot multiple coats of the Pearl White, 3 to 4, to get what I was reasonably happy with. I would start with a sanding, especially in the areas with bubbling. I would then reprime with Tamiya Fine White Primer, and finish off with the Pearl White.
  7. Since the onset of Covid, my local model group has mostly been using ZOOM to stay in touch. Occasionally we meet up in person at a local hobby shop (Dailey Hobbies). December 21st was just such a meet-up. A friend had recommended purchasing Mr Hobby paints from the GX line, but I didn't at the time. Instead I purchased two F-1 kits. I bought the Fujimi 1/20 Tyrrell P34. I want to see how it compares to the Tamiya kit. I also bought the Fujimi 1/20 Brabham BT-46 (fan car) Prototype. This was such an outrageous design in F-1 terms, that it was almost immediately banned. I like outrageous! LOL Canada's tax holiday was in effect, so both were purchased without the 13% HS Tax being applied! Hooray Since yesterday was Boxing Day, I went back to see what might be on sale. I bought the Hasegawa FROM_A Porsche 962C, because you can't have too many of this racer! I bought the Hasegawa 1/20 F-1 Lotus 79, because Hasegawa only briefly entered the 1/20 F-1 game. Their Ferrari F-1 kits are excellent. I rounded it off with another 1/20 F-1, Lotus 91 by EBBRO. With EBBRO no longer in business, it won't be long before all of their product is no longer on any retail shelves. Yesterday I did finally purchase some bottles from the Mr Color GX line. The paints are named "Mr Metal _______ ". When you look at the pigment on the bottom of each bottle, there is a subtle metallic sheen present.
  8. I should make that a resolution for the new year. Meanwhile I'm going to my LHS tomorrow to see what they have car-wise for their Boxing day sale! LOL
  9. Me too. I already have the street version, but not the rally car.
  10. Tamiya kit 24031 was the street car.
  11. Might a chassis from the Tamiya Fiat work as a starting point for the Abarth?
  12. I am curious as to the orientation of the parts being painted, to the airbrush. Are the sides of the car perpendicular to the airbrush? Holding the body on a paint stand would result in the sides of the body getting the paint applied straight onto the surface. Holding the body the same way might result in the paint being applied on an angle. I now hold the body with the upper surface tipped toward me so that the paint hits the surface directly instead of at an angle. Sometimes small things can make big differences. Apologies if you responded to this in your just posted response.
  13. I'm not holding out for a resolution before Christmas, maybe even the new year 🤕
  14. Trevor, I know that some of the Fujimi wheel/tire sets came with Pirelli P7 Cinturato tires. They are old enough that they probably came in the 14" range you are looking for.
  15. Jeff, the new posting of the pic worked. ?
  16. I have both a Gaahleri GHAD-68 and a Swallowtail that were purchased last year. I'm wondering how far Gaahleri will be willing to go in terms of providing customers with this updated needle guide component for free. I would hope that the needle guide component is the same for both of these Gaahleri trigger style airbrushes.
  17. Installing the replacement TAL-8 to get it to effectively seal against the needle is a trial and error process. Installing it too tight will cause this new needle packing to fail again sooner than it should. Once initially installed, hold your airbrush vertically with the nozzle end pointing up. Then take your needle, with the non business end barely inside the airbrush body, and let the needle drop. If it falls right through the airbrush, then the needle packing is not tight enough and doing its job. Tighten the needle packing a little more, think about 1/8th of a turn. Try the needle drop again. Keep repeating this process until the needle does not fall through. When it gets "held" by the needle packing, then the needle packing is doing its job and is adjusted correctly / tight enough.
  18. Usually if you experience bubbling in the cup it might be one of two things. The nozzle is experiencing a leak where it joins with the airbrush body. If the nozzle has a seal (o-ring) attached, you might just need to replace the o-ring. If there is no seal on the nozzle, some bees wax on the nozzle threads will seal it. If the nozzle is damaged (think cracked or chipped), you will need to replace it. As said before, the air and paint are finding the path of least resistance. With the evidence of paint getting back to the trigger mechanism, that would indicate to me that the needle packing (TAL-8) needs to be tightened or replaced. Tightening is not that difficult if you have a small slot blade screwdriver. Some needle packings are a brass fitting which compresses a separate ptfe o-ring (or other material). Others are an integral unit with o-ring attached to brass fitting.
  19. Dusty, it's nice to see that you are going all in with this build.
  20. I'm thinking the Otaki/Doyusha kits will still be desirable to some. However, with this kit pending others will be finding their way to sites like eBay before their desirability becomes diminished.
  21. Do my eyes deceive me or has Aoshima actually included wheels with tires in this new version of their SnapCar Series? I built one of the earlier 1/32 R-35 kits....meh.
  22. I hope this might be of some assistance to individuals who live close to Toronto who might still be looking for some Tamiya spray cans. Advance Hobbies (Parkway Mall), which is a small shop that caters to mostly RC, has the pictured amounts still.
  23. Big In Japan... wasn't that an album by Cheap Trick? LOL "Album", my age is showing.
  24. These are purchases from the Group 25 contest, 2024-09-28 The Tamiya AlfaRomeo because it's an awesome kit of an awesome sports car. The Hasegawa Lola T90-50 because I like open wheel race cars. The Atlantis Fireball Dragster to feed the masochist in me! LOL
  25. I realize that the Tamiya McLaren MP-4 series are considerably older than this Meng offering. The detail portrayed in the instruction drawings is more than impressive. In spite of it not being the accepted F-1 scale (1/20 LOL), I will more than likely buy this kit. Since I do not have much in the way of AK paints, I'll do my best to colour match the AK paints listed.
