  3. A very tastefully done Deuce Sedan. I really like the chop, stance and dual quad set-up. I am going to have to research the chop method you used as I do not think I have ever the term stepped chop before.
  4. Sad news indeed. It was a very tragic accident which looked to be instantly fatal. Jules appeared destined to have a great F1 career ahead of him as so many other talented drivers before him who lost their lives too soon doing what they loved.
  5. Thanks John - You should try to get your hands on the more recent Revell 32 Ford Sedan. It is an excellent kit for getting back into the hobby with two engine and wheel options and can be built full fendered or as a high-boy.
  6. Thanks everyone. It probably looks better in photographs than under a magnifying glass but all things considered I am pretty happy with how it turned out. It certainly gave me renewed appreciation of both the skills of the Revell craftspeople who originally tooled up this kit and how well engineered most modern kits car.

  8. Hosted on Fotki I do not recall seeing the full scale Orange Crate back in the day but the magazine articles and model kit made a big impression on me although this is my first build attempt. I had couple of those previous reissues with the weird parts molded in colored plastic but they did not appeal to me so I got rid of them. The most recent reissue with the great classic box-art, corrected hood and new decals as well as the great article and photos in The Rodder’s Journal inspired me to finally build The Orange Crate. I decided this would be my annual summer camping project. This would be a simple build like I built models as a kid with a combination of brush and rattle can painting. I did some preparation of parts and painted everything before hand but 95% of final assembly was done during three afternoons on a camping trip with the grandsons and their grandmother. I ran out of glue and lost the steering column but was able to fabricate a new one from the plastic rear axle. Simple of course does mean it was easy as this mid-60’s kit lived up to its reputation. The kit is very accurate and as such many of the parts are very small and fragile. There are a lot of chrome parts on two trees that have a great deal of flash, molding seams and marks. Plus the parts are very tightly spaced with mountings heavier than the parts themselves. Fortunately I brought my silver lacquer paint to touch up the chrome. The instructions have been updated and there is a complete parts list however locating pins and holes are very small and the orientation is some cases is vague. - The exterior paint is Testor’s One Coat Lacquer Firey Orange with Clear Top Coat [the real car’s last original paint is candy orange with ghost flames which I never even thought about trying to duplicate] - Orange ignition wires added - Headers outlets drilled open - Axle tubes added to quick-change rearend [the current kit has a plastic axle but I used a metal axle like the original] Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  9. Daniel - There are registration and entry forms to download under show information at this link http://deucedaysinscale.shawwebspace.ca/pages/view/entry_forms/ Basically you just need to show up. Hope you can make it next summer.
  10. Great to see more Deuces showing up Under Glass
  11. Great to see a build of a kit I have not even seen yet. I really like the color combination. I can see how rear bumper guards might interfere with the tailgate.
  12. There is a great flathead in the Deuce Sedan, a first gen Hemi in the 5W and small block Fords in them all except the Rat Roaster with a SBC.
  13. Revell announced that they are re-releasing the Speedwagon this month. Of all the Revell Deuce kits, the Speedwagon seems to be the easiest one to find at swap meets and I have already built and modified a couple. I would really like to see the Roadster back in its original form or even the Rat Roaster as a modified re-issue with smooth hood, full fenders, bench seat interior up-top and maybe a couple of multiple carb and exhaust manifold options for the SBC. Now that would be a big seller. Hosted on Fotki
  14. In the case of this 33/34 Sedan it probably is a cover but with the Deuce there is likely a fuel cell in the trunk. quote name="Jon Haigwood" post="1454320" timestamp="1435455469"]The louvers in the fuel tank kind a threw me a bit. Wasn't sure how it could hold any gas (on a 1:1 car). Went to a car show today and found this . Maybe that is just a tank cover? I still like it ALOT.
  15. A couple of good looking Deuces
  16. Excellent. Love those square fendered Jeeps. Really like the cargo.
  17. Nice to see a first gen RX7. very nice model. Somehow I talked myself out of buying one when they were new and definitely the ultimate affordable sportscar in their day.
  18. I really like the incorporation of the stock rear window. Well done.
  19. Thanks Bernard for your always insightful comments. The hood is from the Monogram 1/24 Deuce Roadster trimmed to fit and the tank louvers are from another 5-W trunk lid cut into place. To give the louvers a more realistic look I trimmed them with a .2mm archival ink pen. On my first polishing before repsraying I went through to white on the edges of some of the louvers. I contemplated doing the same for all as the real car has white pinstriping on the louvers. I used the same pen on the white vinyl pinstripe on the sides but should have lightly sanded the vinyl before to give the ink something to bite into. The black eventually came off in places with handling so I removed it all. It was such a pain cutting this particular vinyl so narrow that I decided to leave as is.
  20. Thanks everyone for your comments. This build was a lot of fun as it evolved with a feature article inside.
  21. Don - My build write up is On the Workbench athttp://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=101911 But in brief I used the Revell 1/25 Hiboy kit. The wheels and tires are from the Revell Willys Street Rod

  23. This model is a tribute to the well-known Dennis & Debbie Kyle Roadster that was picked as one of the 75 most significant Deuces. I chose to build it for number of reasons: 1-It is what I picture in my mind eye when I think Deuce Highboy roadster; 2- It the first of a series of The Rodders Journal poster cars I plan to build; 3- It is another Deuce for Deuce Days in Scale next summer [2016]; 4- Orange is a theme at the local model show in October. I posted construction information On The Workbench. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=101911 The paint is Model-Master International Orange Enamel. The pinstripe and scallops are vinyl. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  24. It is now finished moved to under glass as of June 25
  25. In all respects except one the Rev/Mon Cobra is the best 427 but the kit lacks inner front fender liners which are also engine compartment sides however the Fujimi kit [and AMT] does have them. Not that they would be hard to fabricate but I do not see many builds of the Rev/Mon with them.
