I've used eBay several times for cheap models. I sort the listings by ending soonest, and enter a maximum price of $5. I've found some auctions ending in a few minutes with no bidders, and put in a $5.00 bid and won.

My easiest one in recent years was this AMT 55 Corvette snap kit.
Back in the day it was the early AMT annuals with no engines, one piece interiors and screw bottom chassis. They were fun, though!

Forums like this have probably helped the manufacturers a lot. We give them tons of feedback and wish lists instantaneously and free to them. They didn't have this instant marketing info in past decades.
Wow! Killer detailing! The trunk is incredible! I looked at the pics several times and kept finding things in it that I didn't see before! Great weathering too!

GREAT model, Al! Very realistic in that scale. Pill bottle for a brake drum - genius! Now could you dress GI Joe up to be the rider? Maybe paint on some tattoos, and a beard from cotton balls? Just a thought.

My strength might be called getting the most "bang for the buck." Translation: I'm cheap! I've gotten several $5.00 glue bombs from ebay and rebuilt them using mostly stuff from my old (1960's) parts boxes. I also redid some of my old models from that era for very little cost. I like the challenge of making a decent model without spending a bundle on aftermarket items or buying kits just for some of their parts.
