  3. Hey guys, I just finished this Revell 65 Chevy pickup, built stock. I modified it to have the bed-mounted spare option by cutting and filling the fender depression, and making a mount for the wheel. I made a wooden bed floor from coffee stirrers and music wire, Modified the tailgate to open, and added tailgate chains from chain from Michael's craft store. Paint is Testors light blue, which is a close match to the factory color. Sometimes I like to imagine a story behind my models if they were real vehicles. I imagined this one as a truck bought new by a farmer in 1965. He used it for many years, then parked it in his barn when he retired. When he passed away, his son gave the truck to the farmer's grandson, who is a motorhead, and wanted to hot rod it. But then the kid decided to just take out the tired old six cylinder engine and replace it with a 283 V-8 from the local salvage yard, but keep the stock appearance to honor his pap. He even put new whitewalls on it because pap loved them, and had them on every car he owned. The kid's friends, who drove jacked up 4x4's, chuckled about his old fashioned stock-looking truck, but he had the last laugh because the chicks loved that sentimental stuff about honoring his granddad! Comments welcome! Faux photo from 1965 when Pap brought home a new Schwinn Sting Ray bike for his son!

  6. Nice clean build. Great color, and I like the wheels. Good work! Sam
  7. The article said they wanted to make something no one would expect. Mission accomplished! But it seems stupid to me. Sam
  8. I added a wooden bed floor, made from coffee stirrers and music wire, and some tailgate chains. It's coming along! Sam
  9. That's looking great! It's good to see the old kits restored! Sam
  10. Jeff, I built a similar model when I was a teenager in the 1960's. I cut the rear of the body off a 40 Ford coupe or sedan model (don't remember which) and glued on a flat piece of plastic with a window cutout to make the back of the cab. I think I used the bed and fenders from either a 53 or 56 Ford pickup. It looked homemade, which is what I wanted. Sam
  11. Hey guys, I'm working on this 65 Chevy pickup in light blue, made to resemble a 65 that my late former father-in-law had years ago. The main modification on the model is to convert it to the bed mounted spare configuration. I cut the fender and made a curved insert from a plastic lid from a can of spray glue. The mount (music wire and styrene) for the spare is "sort of scale," not quite accurate, but close enough for me. I also hinged the tailgate, and will add chains. The bumpers and grille will be white instead of chrome. Paint is Testors light blue enamel, which is very close to the stock Chevy color. It's coming along, but that paint is really slow drying completely! Here are some pics. In the last one, the body & bed are just sitting on the chassis loosely.
  12. Wow! Clean and green - I love it! Great work on that leaf spring. Beautiful finish too! Sam
  13. Very nice! Looks like it has had a long life of service. Lots of character! Nice work on the bed (I assume it's scratch built). I like the 6-banger engine, too. I'm working on a Revell 65 Chevy pickup, stock build, now and I wish it had a six. Sam
  14. George, the garage diorama is my design, scratch built. Here is a link to the thread from 2011 when I posted it here. I've added some details since then. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/42708-small-town-garage-diorama/ Thanks for the compliments! Sam BTW, here's a link to the Dart posting http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/100448-62-dart-rebuild/
  15. Great looking old Mopar yacht! Nice save! Sam
  16. Johan 66 Toronado and AMC Marlin, AMT Ford Falcon sedan, 60 or 61. AMT (SMP?) 60 Corvair 4-dr. sedan I've seen all of these on ebay at one time or another, but they have crazy prices!
  17. Man, those are all beauties, and all from my favorite car era! The uptops on the convertibles really add a lot. Great work! Sam
  18. Wow! Great job matching the full scale truck. Cool model with lots of character! Great work! Sam
  19. Here's what I got done in 2015. All enjoyable projects! 57 Chevy snapper. Deuce coupe. 25 T pickup. Body is a cut down chopped coupe. Beetle and desert race diorama done in 2015. Pink T bucket. I don't know why! 62 Dart and truck both built in 2015.
  20. Great build! Nice going, kid! Sam
  21. Great finish, and the engine looks really good! I wonder if sanding a little off the rear and bottom edges of the hood side panels would let the hood sit down a bit lower in front? Maybe thinning down the air cleaner a bit might help, too. I've had similar problems with some other kits. Sam
  22. Beautiful build! I like the color, and everything is so cleanly done. Great work! Sam
  23. Very clean build of a classic rod! Great color, and nice work all around! Sam
  24. Beautiful build! I'm glad to see those old Jo-Han models saved! Great work! Sam
