In the path of destruction
Agent G replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Grandkids knocked a cased build off a shelf once. Eh stuff happens, not really upset about that. My children never tampered with builds one way or the other. They were/still are builders themselves so they appreciated the finished product. Currently all builds reside in their own cases or covered shelves. Now their mother, that's another story. She would deliberately break my builds, and tools and such would disappear. Ditched her years ago. This wife sits and watches. She appreciates what I can do, and thinks my builds are all "cute". Those forum members who have met her know what I mean when I say she's a keeper. G -
Use wide masking tape as canvas. It has a good scale texture, will accept paint easily, and if you screw up in your measurements, like I always do, it's cheap. G

Ok here's my advice, relax, take your time, have PATIENCE. If you want to get better, start with baby steps. READ the instructions, don't just look at the pretty pictures, LOOK at them. Take the part and compare it with the diagram. Test fit the part to the other parts. Don't just go off and start gluing things together. TAKE YOUR TIME, this really isn't a race. When you look at all the really good builds here on the forum remember, they took time to get right. The builders took their time to learn and develop their skills. While it's fun to see the finished car, how can you get better? Build for yourself. That seems like a contridiction, but think about it. You can build any kind of car you want, just take your time and think it through. ASK FOR ADVICE. We all get stuck sometimes. What I don't know somebody else will. When I screw something up somebody else has done it already and can offer advice on how to fix it. G

There is a company that produces PE barrel jackets in 1/35th scale. You have to roll them into a cylinder, then mount them. I took one look at those and just shook my head no. G

NICE! I always lengthen the axle when I drop one of these. It looks a bit funny from underneath but it accomplishes what I want. G

A GEOGRAPHY OF MODEL BUILDING
Agent G replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I grew up, and later worked, an entire career in the midwest. St Louis is the pits for anything car related. Most of my ideas came from living in SoCal courtesy of the Marines, and a career spent driving different cars. G -
Cape Glouchester provided a few "firsts" for the marines. It was the first use of the M1 Garand as an issue rifle, and the first time Marines used an M4 medium tank in an invasion. These were M4A1's acquired from the US Army in Australia. I finally got the opportunity, with this project, to build a Tasca Sherman. Or should I say I watched as it built itself? Wonderful kit it was. G

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Agent G replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Rob, I currently have an AK47,it's a Saiga chambered in .223, Remington 870, Colt 1911 Officers ACP, and a S&W 681 .357 magnum. Real, REAL close to your choices. I carried the S&W for years in uniform as well as the Beretta 92. Very familiar with those and the Remington 870. One of those kept me company for most of my 32 years on the job. Bullpup rifles such as the WA2000 are a great choice. I have no real experience with those, but spent a lot of time behind a M16A1, and a M60. Used an M14 on the USMC shooting team at Pendleton. I wish I could have kept that rifle too. Mr Hanks, sir, those are freakkin' sweet! G -
Not bad, not bad at all. If the PD has a sense of humor, I think you'd have a ball commuting with either of these. G

The rifle I'd use, http://www.fnhusa.com/le/products/firearms/model.asp?gid=&fid=fnf054&mid=FNM0153 The shotgun, http://www.benelliusa.com/shotguns/benelli-m4.php The pistol, http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/ColtPistols/Colt1991Series.aspx G -
Yeah, it makes the roof line look out of sync with the body lines. Everything on the body is bullet straight front to back, then the roof starts high and slopes down in back. It just "don't look right". Granted there will be some tapering toward the rear anyway. But...if the front is just a tad lower, keeping the roof line just a shade more level, oh baby that'd be killer. The rest of the car is coming along nicely, and the interior is fantastic. G

F4-E Phantom II

Her majesty's maiden voyage was 1958, I was 2. She and I grew up together in St Louis. Little did I know she'd be my top cover a short 17 years later when Saigon fell. I love that airplane. G -
I want to find a good 1/24 or 1/25 scale kit of a pickup. Then I will take the top off the cab, add some mg's to the cowl, and put a recoiless rifle in the bed. I've seen a few done this way and it just looks cool. I for one wouldn't go near the frikkin' thing, but it does look cool. G

Doesn't really matter. If "occupied", by the time they are located it's like King Tuts tomb. Now Lake Mead, with the falling water levels, is another story. G
