  1. Say that with a smile Jim! Only one thing, it snowed in Cairo, Egypt the other day. First time in 117 YEARS. Ya never know................ G
  2. Sounds darn near perfect! G
  3. 58 here today, lower 60's tomorrow. Just in time for my lovely daughter to fly in from the cold snowy mid west........................... G
  4. Don't lull yourself into a false sense of security. City, country or suburbs makes no difference. There are folks wanting what you have and will not stop to try and take it. Get a dog, better yet get several if you live in the country. Merely having a barking yapping ball of fur around is a great deterrent. My goofy lovable beagle kept my place from being burgled a few years ago. Raised so much cain the suspects left, went up the block and were caught by the local cops. Actually one suspect attacked a cop and got shot for his efforts. Haven't had an issue with burglaries here for a while now........ G
  5. Oh heay yeah! I just saw the 1/200th scale USS Missouri "on sale" for $249, then saw the "detail up" set "on sale"..............$339! Yes it's 50+ inches long and a true showpiece, but come on $580+ for a model ship? The lovely MrsG would be incandescently p'd over that purchase. G
  6. 1/35th armor, 1/24 and 1/25 autos, 120mm figures, some 1/72 armor and the occasional 1/48th aircraft. Haven't built a ship or a 1/72 scale plane in forever. Been at it for over 50 years now. G
  7. I go twerk Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday! G
  8. I went twerk today! G
  9. Oh heck, based on that I broke even............................ G
  10. I usually do not, I just take what I've learned into consideration on the next one. I have built multiples of a kit, Revell '32 Ford, to see what I could do better. I recently re weathered a tank that sat for about three months. I knew I wanted to do more but wasn't sure what. After two other builds, I brought it back to the bench and went at it. I really like it now, and had a blast working on it. G
  11. I know we are getting close when I see Elvis wearing a Santa hat, showgirls wearing red and green feathered headpieces and Christmas lights on palm trees. Gonna be back in the 50's by weeks end and 60's thereafter. G
  12. To be classified as a desert means lack of precipitation, not temperature. Theoretically Antarctica is a desert climate as the precipitation rate falls below the margin delineating desert conditions. Now let it warm up a few degrees and you'll have a different story for sure. No snow plows for the city or county. The state has them in abundance for northern Nevada, and sends some down when snow is predicted for the roads to Mt Charleston. That's how we knew we were gonna get it in '08. There were Nevada DOT guys running all over the place prepping the blade assemblys. That time it stayed on the ground for about six days, usually it disappears in a few hours. Like Danno I do not miss working all the different scenes in the winter. I'd always be on call when a fire fatality occurred during a sleet storm. No fun. There'd be days and days of subfreezing temps and everyone would get cabin fever. Family disturbance calls during the holidays were a trip. G
  13. For this time of the year it is way colder than normal. We don't see temps like that until January and then only for a week or so. I'm usually doing yardwork in a t shirt by mid February. 27 last night and with the wind chill we saw temps of -20. It will head up to the normal 50's by weeks end. Harry it snowed 8" by my house in December of '08. Dumped it all in about six hours and paralyzed the town. There's a large segment of the population here that has never seen snow much less cope with it. The rest of us just laughed and went on with our lives. That broke a 35 year record. Remember it's referred to as "high desert". Altitude is key out here, my house is 3000' above sea level, the valley is at 2100 feet give or take. Chicago is just above 700 ft as I recall and St Louis is 630 feet above. G
  14. I do not miss snow, ice, and all the other little annoyances that come with winter weather. It is currenty 36 degrees here but, there isn't a cloud in the sky. We had some rain earlier in the week and it snowed in the mountains but that is it so far. G
  15. I like that! You have captured the spirit of Fred Sanford quite well. Interestingly enough I drive past Redd Foxx's old home every time I visit my mother in law. G
  16. Not to mention the SBD was so new to the US Navy, none were at Pearl Harbor, parked or dropping bombs..................................................... G
  17. Past post or add to a wager in any amount on a gaming table in Nevada and you get charged with a FELONY. ANY gaming related crime is a FELONY here. True we take a look at the totality of the circumstances, but once probable cause is established, you will be arrested for a FELONY. $.05 $.50, or $500 dollars, the amount doesn't matter. Yes I can tell the difference between an honest mistake and someone committing fraud. There are at least 4 camera angles I can look at on any given table. Guy pulls his stuff, acts like an azz, he gets what the law has specified for him. G
  18. Randy curiously enough there are lots of job opportunities here in the desert for certified divers. We have two major aquariums, two large fountains, one humungous fountain in a man made lake and several lake side communities that require constant maintanence. G
  19. Very nicely done! I have built that before and it is impressive. Back in the day my police station was just across the street from AB world HQ. They had stables down the block on the property as they did pull the wagons in a byegone era. Those majestic horses routinely got away by untying themselves and opening gates. We'd find them on the lawn of the station and have to lead them back. The horses were definately smart, perhaps smarter thatn their handlers. G
  20. Won't be hard to find the suspects, they now glow in the dark........................ G
  21. X2 Love the new SS, especially where it came from................... G
  22. Happy Hanukkah! Sitting here in my palatial state office contemplating a $2 million embezzlement case. It's gonna be a looooong week. G
  23. I'm going to have to build this, maybe several of them. In HS I helped a friend build a "Cal Look" Beetle, most fun I ever had with a car. Great fun driving too, except cops in the midwest had a distinct aversion to anything like that especially in the early 70's. G
  24. Good job. It looks just like all the desert dogs running around out here. G
