Great paint! Very nice model. Well done.

That’s a great looking old car. The chrome looks like it’s amazingly preserved. I like what looks like the original upholstery pattern on the seats and door panel. Looks like an interesting place to visit as well. Looks like a 62 Chrysler 300 two doors down? And I see way back there my wife’s old four door Chevette!?

The transmission in the MPC kit was weak, literally and figuratively, so we searched the yard for an acceptable replacement. Thanks to some modern laser technology and a lot of time at machining by the Snowman, a Ford Taurus SHO tranny will, or in theory, should work

3.0L? I’ve got 4.8 of probably completely unbalanced V6 power! The Hunter car was also in Black Moon Rising...again, mine will only be similar. No replica here as the Snowman and Santa team want to do things their own way...

Lower will be silver, and this red plastic manages to work itself into everything, so I blocked the lower parts with BIN shellac based primer.

I was inspired by the Cannonball CBP and started on this old MPC kit (or newer, depending on your own age). Thanks to Keith (Bucky) for the kit! It won’t be an exact replica of The car from Hunter, but a resemblance of...with a different source of power. The MPC “body” kit for the Daytona fits okay, but front and rear lines don’t match up too well. I’ll get them close. Filled the sunroof too as I need a place to stick that red rotator...

I ordered three kits from them recently (4/16). I only received one kit and it came from their warehouse in CA...? Customer service said sorry for forgetting the other two kits, but another shipment will be going out soon. Haven’t heard from them since last Thursday. Hopefully they are all ok and things will start to get back closer to normal in the next few weeks. I’m not bothered by it at all, as there are bigger things going on right now. But I also think it’s important to keep some commerce going where possible.

Great looking model! I really like the color choice. -
Oh, great color.

There are a lot of variables. The exact make up of the plastic, the type of primer and paint, etc. I’ve had plastic ghost after primer with Tamiya paint. I’ve had it not ghost with Dupliocolor paint. On my most recent finished kit, AMT 1/32 T Bird, I removed the emblems, applied glue, sand, glue, sand then painted. No ghosts. I have not had issues using glue to “ghost out”, though, so I tend to do it every time I remove some trim.
-
Yeah, just sand them off. I would run a light coat of liquid glue(like Tamiya Thin) over the spot where the trim was, wait for it to dry, sand off the “ghost” and repeat until it doesn’t “ghost”. Some primers won’t get a reaction and it will look fine, but hotter top coats will reinvigorate that old trim location and it will show through the paint.

Great looking model! Nice paint. It looks just like my wife’s. Except hers is a Subaru. -

Great looking model! -
The interior modifications looked great on the ‘68 Olds and it looks like this will be even more impressive. What technique do you use to remove the side panels on the interior tub? Do you scribe from the inside?

Jeez. Awesome work on the body. That old plastic and glue combo isn’t easy to work with.

I have a few things from Mike Pagatani at 3D Scale Parts, and I’m so impressed with the quality, I thought I’d show them. These are 1/8 scale wide five wheels made to fit the 1/8 scale Revell/Monogram tires. They are printed in whatever material his printer uses - not resin cast. Below the wheels are Frankland quick change wide five finned hubs and backing plates followed by more standard wide five hubs. The backing plates fit either hub but only came with the Frankland parts. I have been gathering parts for years for a someday 1/8 scale build and I’m glad I waited for technology to catch up to my desires... 3D Scale Parts service was great too - a couple weeks for some, less than a week for the Frankland parts.
