'80s Monogram kits are pretty good kits

Mopar people... I don’t think the 71 Satellite has ever been reissued...? What’s the difference between the satellite and the GTX? I would like to see the satellite again... -
'80s Monogram kits are pretty good kits
Erik Smith replied to JollySipper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wasn't the '70 Plymouth GTX from this time period in Monogram's history? The '69 440 "Six Pack"? The '70 Challenger T/A? I remember as a kid really liking those kits (vs the crappy Revel and MPC stuff from the 80s, which I for some reason like now). The colors they molded them in are kind of a pain now, then I didn't mind. -
Actually, insurance is for the seller. I learned this earlier this year. So if a package is insured, the seller needs to make the claim. If you lay the blame on the buyer you’re going to lose a customer.

Ah, thanks Rob. What exactly does discontinued mean? Do they continuously throw more plastic into the molds and keep up with demand on the kits that aren't? Or does this mean the number they have sitting around from the last cast is down to a certain point? Doesn't look like any of the discontinued kits are hard to find - in fact, probably find some on a discount rack someplace...

Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for, but where does it say which kits are being discontinued? Most just say "In Stock".

Haha. Yes, and smoke bombs. The reservations here still sell some pretty good mini boom sticks - some that would send an AMT kit into orbit and about a million pieces. If anybody really wants to have fun, just grab some of the AMT MPC reissues of the kits they made in the 70s - like the Gremlin or Pinto models - not only can you enjoy some of the flash, pin and sink marks, etc, of the "new" kits using old tooling - you can also revel in the general poor engineering of the kits.

AMT Funny Car ID Needed for Frame & Engine Parts

Headers look cool in that kit - completely wrong for a Pontiac port spacing though, right? -
Interesting watch. The tech Hotz has developed using nothing but a smart phone that works similar to $350,000 cars is great. I like the line “you want self driving cars? We have them already. Call Uber” Also, watch the portion of the video where the self driving car kills the pedestrian. The “driver/Idiot” is completely oblivious to her surroundings and looking at her laptop. I wonder what the qualification for that job was: 1. must be breathing with heartbeat. Overall, kind of indicative of a lot of our economy - marketing and salesmanship over actual product and development (think Elizabeth Holmes).

Corona Virus (Covid 19) and Model Kits
Erik Smith replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It’s also Important to remember that Chinese people are suffering and dying from the outbreak. Their economy is also suffering, and often times, reduced production and income contribute to further misery. I hope they can contain the virus and get back to business, not so I can have a new model, but so the humans there can continue with life. -
AMT '60 Thunderbird, 1:32, decent kit?

Simple but very nice kit. -
The details on the front cover and belts is really amazing.

Awesome work Jonathan. Great paint. Great model.

If you decant you won’t need to thin, it’s already thin enough. At least that’s my experience with Tamiya sprays. As far as thinning Tamiya jars, I think I’ve thinned then with Tamiya thinner or lacquer thinner...or did I use lacquer thinner? Ah, now I can’t remember, sorry. Maybe I’ll remember in the morning. But I did use Tamiya thinner...

I have a cardboard box with the sides cut out and tissue paper over the holes set up right next to my work bench. I can put it in my paint booth for more light, but for WIP, I just use ambient light and my iPhone camera. Top photo is in the paint booth, so more light. Bottom photo is with ambient light. Both with iPhone.

Ahhh...my first completed model in, I think 18 months or so. I started Hasegawa’s Isuzu Gemini back in December 2018 or so, finished it tonight. Paint is Duplicolor Forest Green Pearl. Model is built 100% box stock. Fun little model with excellent fit and finish. The tolerances on part fit is very tight for final assembly and I should have taken off more plastic for the taillights and hood (which is separate piece for different versions). Enjoy! Jeez. It’s hard taking photos of a dark car...
