  1. Vancouver is a great city, but of you have time and funds, the Pacific Northwest has a few model related shows, including some in BC. Start here: http://sabanw.org I will be attending some of them in 2014.
  2. I agree here. Licensing would be sky high.
  3. That Talon looks nice and I found you can get a kit that includes three sizes of tips PLUS an auto style fan tip for a 3 inch spray pattern. The needle limiter is cool too - right now I just loosen the needle, pull it out to, and tighten again to get a "single action" action on my Eclipse - I'm going to look into the Talon.
  4. I am pretty sure there are some members here from the Vancouver, BC area - and one from Victoria - so they should be a good resource. Check this too: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50562
  5. Beautiful, Peter. Simply beautiful.
  6. Nice Impala. I like models based on cool box art - and that is a cool box and model. Nice work. What's the color?
  7. They were, but it's 2014 now Looks cool - nice work on the model.
  8. Whoa! I never noticed there were four door Skylines in that style. Looks like a pretty mean family ride. Cool so far.
  9. The Cobras are realistic - the other two you would have been rich to begin with.
  10. Fantastic looking model I love getting to that point in construction.
  11. Thanks for all the comments. The air box clamps are bent wire, added, not molded.
  12. I hear you, Bill. Unfortunately, there are more people - a lot more - millions more - that are: 1. Unsafe, distracted drivers 2. Don't care how a car performs 3. Don't want a smelly old car That's where the market and society has created the situation (good or bad) we are in now. I myself would love to work on cars more. Last time I did anything was on my 1984 Toyota - I replaced the timing chain in my carport with a small box of tools and a Haynes manual. Somehow, without knowing what was going on, I managed to tear the whole engine down and put it back together and, the magical part, it started. Ran for years with no problems. I didn't have to worry about emissions then, though. I have friends that were big into cars in high school and most of them have given up on cars - atleast the working on them part.
  13. Many of you are probably familiar with these two sites, but I can spend hours (and have) looking through all the old brochures and advertisements. Alden Jewell's extensive Flickr albums and Old Car Brochures Grab a cup of coffee and waste a few hours...
  14. That's beautiful, Andy. Great color combo and paint job.
  15. I love that color! Beautiful paint job too.
  16. Nice looking Impala. I like the color combo and what you did with the wheels - it looks like you painted the centers? Cool model.
  17. Model Roundup, eBay, Tower Hobbies, Spotlight Hobbies all have them in stock. Should be at most HobbyTown USAs too.
  18. 10 years? Not bad turn around. Nice looking model. Great work.
  19. That's pretty cool, Tom. You can't have too many wagons.
  20. Thanks! Yes, Future on the sides of the seats. Project is complete and "under glass" Many thanks to all the contributors on the WIP thread!!
  21. Here is the now infamous Revell LX... I started the kit soon after the release, had to go to work for a few months, and finally managed to get some time this fall to finish things up. So, imagine 1990. Your nerdy neighbor finally tries to be cool. You hear he's going to buy a new Mustang. "Wow. I always thought that guy was a dweeb". Well, here he comes on a warm fall afternoon. Slow and steady has you clear the road...what? Yes, that "new cool" neighbor got a Mustang, and first thing he did - whitewalls and chrome door handles. Whatever, man... Overall, the kit is a very nice. You can peruse the WIP section and the kit review for all the short-comings - I won't rehash it all again. In conclusion: I wasn't real happy with the fit of the tail lights and reflectors. The chrome portion is sort of ambigous and fits tight. The red lenses fit well but the clear portions are too short - or so it appears to me. There is a slight edge on the taillights for painting the black trim, but it's a little tedious. The window trim was fairly faint but still turned out okay. I masked it all with BMF and sprayed Tamiya Semi Gloss Black. The black window areas were a bit of a challenge for me - I am not used to doing that and I failed at a few attempts to mask and paint and ended up using a sharpie. The headlight trim (or the black area between the individual "lenses" turned out a little thick - but better than nothing. I loved the chassis and engine. Both are easy to assemble, are engraved very well, and look good. As noted in my build, there is no coil cover in the kit (the emissions decal is included, though), but it's an easy fix. Thank you very much to all the knowledgable folks who(m?) helped with the build and reference materials. I know it's not perfect, but then again, I wouldn't have any place to go if it was!
  22. I am no expert on car emissions, but I don't think any 1975 car can run cleaner than a 2013 car. You might be able to tune it to periodically run clean, but wouldn't it take continuous adjustments to keep running clean all the time? I grew up in the 70s and I can remember well the smell of car exhaust - sitting in traffic or on cold winter mornings waiting for the windows to defrost. Kids today have no idea what that old exhaust even smells like. I am no advocate of "throw away" technology, and I think the ability to work on your car is a noble endeavor, but I also am pretty realistic when I say today's cars are a lot more reliable, safer, and cleaner than cars 40 years ago.
  23. Tell your son nice work. Pretty clean construction. Something simple that would help a lot - black wash on the grill.
  24. Cool. I like those Skylines that you just have to say "is this really a Skyline?"...so plain Jane. The orange wheel centers contrast great with the silver paint. Nice looking model.
