Ford Escort RS1800
dublin boy replied to afx's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Will you have the strip of chrome around the grille? A lot were obviously crashed and had a basic black grill used. I think they originally all looked like this road car version JC? -
The Story of DeLorean
dublin boy replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The car failed because it had to be redeveloped totally by Lotus, there's a lot of Esprit underneath it. It was too expensive, too heavy and slow with a federal spec Renault V6, and was badly built. -

There's a big rocket heading for Hargrave Rd. Geoff -
DS 23 Pallas with the V6 Citroen/Maserati engine would be nice.
-
I had a good teacher, his name is Geoff. LOL
-
I managed to get a bit of polishing done, I'll probably give it a touch more tomorrow. Got some Tamiya light tan ordered for the interior and hood/convertible uptop, should have it by Monday.

An RS 1700T should be easy to make JC, just cut up an XR3i make it RWD and another Cosworh DBA turbo'd up! Seen this video recently, it's good. -
I must get some of that stuff! LOL

You're flying along Geoff!
-
Cheers Peter. Long way to go yet Geoff, and thanks! Many thanks JC, I'm afraid to build my RS 1800 now after seeing your one!
-
The clear is touch dry now, I must say it looks better thankfully. I'll let it gas out and polish it in a day or two.
-
Standard equipment back in the day! The frosted bits on the front of the rear wheelarch (for black trim) have nearly dissapeared already even before a clearcoat. it's not too important on the basic Cabrio, but watch out on the GTI, seeing as you have one now Geoff Just got some clear on. It looks better, at least when it's still wet. LOL

I suppose the 70's colours were a bit strange, I think it's more commonly seen on the Mk1 Scirocco.
-
I don't really like the colour now after taking a pic outside today. I'm not sure whether to clear and polish it just to see how it goes, or just put it in DOT 4 and start again.

No Irish plates for the RHD version either! LOL -
Nice bodyshell, the front wings/fenders are a bit sharp though, so only a tiny bit of sanding needed. Got it primed and the basecoat on, sorry the pics are very dark, I'll get some outside tomorrow. It's close enough to the VW colour even though it's Ford Aztec Bronze Geoff! LOL

The black wheelarch extensions are wrong for a basic Rabbit, so it's the Euro GTI shell I'd imagine, the wheelarches are frosted so you have a line to paint/mask up to. The extra clear bits in the Cabrio could possibly be used as side marker lights I guess, but with no mounting points, they won't look fantastic which could explain why they look photoshopped onto the test model. The US bumpers look fine though. -
Coming from the man that ordered actual Trabant paint from the former East Germany that's a bit rich! You have another week or so left on the Trabby?
-
So you're going to make the wheelarch extensions and twin head lights Geoff? The colour is nicer though.
-
Very nice.
-
There's a lot more masking needed for black trim after the paint than I thought. LOL I'll get another roll of Tamiya tape ordered tomorrow. Still going for the metallic blue then Geoff?
