Ford Escort RS1800
dublin boy replied to afx's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Here's some inspiration for ya! The problem with the kit to some extent is it gives you slicks which makes you assume it's Tarmac spec, but the suspension is too high, it's (i think) forest spec from the Lombard RAC rally. This is probably modified, but it looks better. The standard kit wheels don't fill out the arches either although the Revell version shows some mods from the original Esci. Any ideas if you will lower it JC?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cr2XmoRn6s -

I'm sitting here watching the Killarney historic rally on tv JC. All the historic (as opposed to modified) Mk 1 and Mk2 Escorts with big arches are running those Minilites you have coming. The Modified cars are running huge wheels, 2.5 litre engines and 6 speed sequential boxes. -
There should be no reason why DOT 4 from any motor factors wouldn't strip the paint, just don't use DOT 5 as it's silicone based and doesn't work. DOT 3 doesn't seem to be available anymore in the UK and Ireland.

It was Terry Ross with his 'Small Talk' page in Street Machine that got me started back in the early 80's. Those models used to amaze me when I was a kid. I still have all the pages cut out of the mags and kept in a folder. A real one! LOL I might have pics of your cars if they were published.

Looks like something from Street Machine or Custom Car back in the day. Not my taste either, but very well done.

X2. I seem to remember Magnum's GTS had the vents behind the headlights painted black too.

How many orders would be needed to make it work? -

Can't wait to see the wheels and tyres JC. Now that there's a pattern/mold will they be available for sale? -
For added realism. LOL

Almost everything rallyed and raced over here had Minilites used in some shape and size from the late 60's to the early 80's. If they can be made to fit an existing kit tyre, or even all cast/printed as one piece there's a lot of people I know that would buy them. -

Any more news on the Minilites yet JC? -
And a miniature hydraulic system you need to fill with LHM fluid

The old Classic cruiser kit, they can come out nice even if my plug wires are about to get burnt on the exhaust..

To clear coat or not
dublin boy replied to atomicholiday's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For what it's worth.. Solid colours, polish them out they don't need to be cleared unless you want to. Metallic colours, they need a clear coat as they dry flat or at best semi gloss, then polish it out. Two pack clear can look a bit contrived though, like it's a scale inch deep, but i guess it's fine for a show Rod or similar. -
True enough

If you can get Minilites like that I want some! Can you tell us more, are they scaled for the kit's slick tyres? -
The hood/uptop got some paint, it's a bit bright but helps with the dark paint, I hope! I'm still sorry I didn't paint it red, I could have had a check engine light on all the time like Penny from the Big Bang thingy

Revell Germany new VW Golf (Rabbit for you guys)

I hear Fox News declared Brum a no go area if you're not Muslim. Where do these idiots come from... -
Cheers Geoff. Obviously the pics get bigger if you click on them, am I resizing too small? I think they're 600 x 400

You'd want to fix the back bumper Geoff. That was actually a common enough colour for them over here when I was a kid. -
Masked up for the black trim, took a brave pill and got the rattlecan out The windscreen (fits from the outside) has the rubber seal molded into the part itself, so I'll do that with a black marker.

The Story of DeLorean
dublin boy replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That car was almost Porshe 911 money. A V6 Capri Injection 2.8 was faster for less than half the price. They were built 100 miles up the road from me guys in Belfast. -

Northern Ireland had no car building background or experience. Great Salesman though. He sold a pup to the UK Government. It was all a dream, he had a big house in Belfast with solid gold taps/faucets. He went over and back on Concorde (at amazing expense too) a few times a week. The drugs thing was a complete fit up though, to be fair to the man. Fantastic bullshitter.
