I have wet sanded the '62 Vette and I burnt through some of the edges on the body, hood, and roof. I repainted them last night and they look great! Now on to clear coat and polishing!

McNally's 1973 Ford Bronco

Thanks guys! This is a great kit. Everything fits where it should and it was an easy build! Keith, I did cut the decals at the forward bend and then applied them so that they were straight instead of angling upwards. -
McNally's 1973 Ford Bronco

Thank you James and Mike! Mike, I did not glue the top on. You are correct that the top moves very easily, but it does look good either on or off the Bronco. I think the hood comes off without even looking at it due to the lack of hinges. I'm sure that if scale hinges were included with the kit, they would be so very small and extremely fragile. -
Thanks Geno! I'm curious. Is the comment for my blue GTO or Geno's red GTO?

John, this is the site I refer to most often when I need to. http://www.turbinecar.com/misc/enginecolor.htm Not sure why I kept this one, but here it is. http://www.mymopar.com/enginecolors.htm

This is my '73 Ford Bronco painted with Tamiya TS-10 French Blue with a white interior. The wheels and wheel covers have been replaced with units from the Moebius '71 Ford Ranger pickup. I scratch-built a trailer hitch ball and modified the front edge decals from an upward slant to straight and level. The air cleaner came from my parts box and the mufflers were painted to match Cherry Bomb mufflers. I paired this model with a McNally, Boston PI story that I wrote called Bolton's Pride.

The Story The two crooked cops lead McNally into a clearing in the woods and stand him next to a large mound of earth. Chief Banning says, "You have stuck your nose in where it doesn't belong, and now you are going to die," as they draw their revolvers. McNally starts to smile and laugh a little. "What's so funny," they ask? Suddenly, they hear, "New Hampshire State Police! Drop your weapons!" Banning and Ed turn around and drop their guns into the snow when they see five troopers dressed in green fatigues and armor with automatic weapons trained on them. Two troopers pick up the revolvers from the snow and frisk Banning and Ed while another goes over to McNally and release his hands from the cuffs. "I'm glad you could make it here, Alex," says McNally. "We got your message from your attorney, plus we have been watching Bolton's Pride Police for some time." With a little prodding, Chief Banning tells the troopers where he has Jason Tate tied up and Alex sends two troopers over to release him from Banning's backyard shed. With Jason released from the shed and on his way to a hospital for treatment from torture and frostbite, McNally plans on going to the hospital for an examination of his injuries from Chief Banning. In all, the entire Bolton's Pride Police force and the town manager, Ralph Tennon have been arrested for corruption, extortion, torture and murder. McNaly finds all his belongings in a box at the Police Station and then he goes outside and finds his Bronco parked out back, waiting to take him to the hospital. As he drives to the hospital, he thinks about his experience in the jail cell and hopes that no one ever has to endure that type of treatment again. McNally will return... The Build My '73 Ford Bronco is complete and it is posted in Under Glass. I would like to thank all those who have taken the time to view and to comment on my WIP.

Thank you Bruce and Pete!

I had a friend who was a stickler for Mopar details and I have learned a lot from him. One of the things he taught me was engine block colors for a given year. I sought out and found a listing for engine block colors that I keep bookmarked for future reference. I once did a non-judging build-off with a friend from Canada with my friend being the "nip-picker" (there's a whole story behind that saying) and we built our Chargers in the same color, but in different building styles. Both Chargers came out beautifully, although I think my friend from Canada had the better model.

The Story As the cruiser drives along Rt. 241, McNally watches the scenery roll by including checking behind them. The car hasn't been running long as it still hasn't gotten up to temperature yet and the heater was still blowing cold air. McNally is still shivering quite a bit from the cold air, but Chief Banning and Ed seem to be warm with their heavy jackets on. The cruiser turns down Collis Road for a couple of miles and then it crashes through a snow bank onto an old path that wanders into the woods and stops about 1/8th mile in. The Chief and Ed get out of the cruiser and the Chief opens the back door and says, "End of the line for you McNally. Get out!" The Build I started assembly with the joining of the body with the chassis. The grille is installed and the roof and hood are removable. McNally will return...

Thank you Pete! My '64 GTO was painted with Tamiya TS-58 Pearl Light Blue over white primer.

Well Kevin, I guess I'll just throw this kit back in the stash since someone already built what I wanted to build! LOL Just kidding! That is a great looking Charger, Kevin! Now i have an idea of what mine will look like with Cragar SS mags and if I can find one, a Hurst T-Handle for the stock shifter. I think there's a racing shifter with a T-Handle that I can steal the T-Handle from in the kit!

Thank you guys! It was either retire the model and put the GTO away or rebuild it. I'm glad I rebuilt it as it looks 100% better now than when I first built it!
-
Wow! I can't believe that I had started this build almost three years ago and then I just lost all interest in completing it. I have decided to pull this kit out and finish it, so I have updated my picture links.

That is the Monogram '64 Pontiac GTO kit. Thanks guys!

I hope to finsh the GTO today. I finished wet-sanding and polishing the hood and body this morning, then I installed the glass and the interior. I cut some thin strips of Bare Metal Foil and wrapped them around the radiator hoses. I cleaned up the bumpers, grille, and taillights. More to come...

Nice GTO Geno! I love the upgrades you made to the kit. I'm hoping to get back to polishing the body and hood today.
-
Thanks Steve! It's not perfect (nor will it ever be), but it will be better than it was years ago and I can forget all about "Memphis Beat".
-
I finished the engine by re-installing it into the chassis. The tires have been lettered by hand. I may do some more detailing to the chassis later. My original thought was to polish the body with Meguiars Scratch X 2.0, then Novus 2 and then Novus 1. Instead I wet-sanded the body since I have plenty of clear on it and it is full of trash. I still need to polish the body sides and the hood. You can clearly see my bench light reflection in the roof. More to come...

Thanks Jeremy and John! The foil is lifting in some spots, the paint is scratched in others, the model is covered with dust, one valve cover is on backwards, and I'm finding all kinds of things that need some attention. I think I can make it better!

I built this model 6 years ago as the Memphis Beat '64 Pontiac GTO driven by Jason Lee as Det. Dwight Hendricks. When I finished the build, the show was cancelled and the model sat on the shelf ignored by me since then. I have been looking at this model for the past couple of weeks, wondering if I should do anything to it or just put it away in a box somewhere. That all changed when I discovered a set of Pontiac wheels and knock-offs in my parts box this morning. The wheels and knock-offs came with the '64 GTO kit and I had put them away for a future use on something. I took the Poncho apart this morning and will wash everything, repaint whatever needs repainting, and reassemble the GTO. More to come...
