Thanks Carl! Gotta get this one off the bench!

There is a picture of Dex's Mustang and there is an air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror. I tried to recreate that type of air freshener by downloading an image of the air freshener and resizing the image size to fit the body. Then using a piece of silver plated string from a Christmas decoration, I looped it and glued it the the images I had printed out on my HP printer. Then I needed to paint the fog lights and I used my white Gelly Roll pen and rummage my parts box for lenses for the lights.

Thanks Jeremy! I am a fan of the Man From U.N.C.L.E. I built an original issue of this kit when the show was about 3 years old. I have had this kit for several years sitting in the stash and I decided to build it. So far, it's coming along with some difficulties, but it is coming along.

That Grand Prix looks amazing! Great job!

I lined the trim with Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black paint this morning. Somehow, some small drips ended up on the roof and I'll try to remove them if I can. Next is painting the side glass for the rear windows.

Looking good John! I like the work you are doing on the headlights.
-
I keep putting off painting with finding things to work on instead. I did some detailing on the chrome tree with the missiles, wheels and instruments.

I never got any of the so-called U.N.C.L.E. merchandise unless it was through the U.N.C.L.E. Fan Club called the U.N.C.L.E. Inner Circle. I still have the magazines some where, but nothing else. From what I have researched, the engine is not the same as the 1:1 car! No turbos (or whatever they were called), no propellers or drag chutes.
-
Thanks Carl! Ken, this kit has been out since the late sixties. It has been reissued many times over the years and I built an original kit back around 1967. The car was built, but it wasn't used that often, probably due to problems with the car or because the script didn't call for it.

The front suspension is complete. Some touchups and the disc brakes and it is ready for the chassis.
-
Thanks Carl! I didn't bother looking in the the container where I put them to be de-chromed.
-
Thanks Don! I had to let the glue dry and harden on the carbs/superchargers/turbochargers so they wouldn't move, but I don't know. They look like turbos, but they could be superchargers. All I know is that they are on!

I have completed the engine...mostly. I just have to reposition the plug wires a bit. This engine has fought me for the last 24 hours and now it is done!

Guess, what I have just found...my intake manifolds! I had clipped some parts from the chrome sprue and placed them in a container with Easy-Off Oven Cleaner. I have just washed them so now they can dry and be painted.

I have read that this kit is somewhat difficult to assemble and I researched it until I was satisfied that I could assemble it properly. Over the years, this kit has been used for the drag race version and some parts may have gone missing as evidence by the missing intake manifolds. I'll make some intake manifolds. They may not be 100% accurate, but I will have some.

I started assembling the Corvair motor for the U.N.C.L.E. car and everything went well until I went to install the intake manifolds. There are none! I guess I shall have to improvise and make some based on the drawings provided and some research on the internet. The doors have been taped to the roof and now I can mark my slots in the laser beam unit for the new hinges I will be making from 5/32 inch styrene tubing. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

My attention span must be getting shorter than usual. I have finished the front and rear window frames. I still have to do the side window frames. More GTX to come...
-
Thanks Jeremy! The foil work could be better, but I am trying!
-
I foiled the side moldings this afternoon. I have to use Metal Foil Adhesive which is another step for me. Maybe it is time I broke down and got some new foil. More GTX to come...
-
Go for it, Don! Otherwise, it'll never get built.

Now that the chrome has been removed from some of the engine parts, I can move ahead with assembly of the engine like the front engine cover and the oil pan and then paint. I glued the carbs to the superchargers and I drilled out the air inlets for the carbs and will detail them later. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

Looks great, John! Excellent detailing and a smooth finish!

I tried to wire the engine by drilling out the plug holes, but there is a small hump that had to be removed first before I could drill my plug wire hole. Once the hump was removed, I could drill my plug wire holes. Drilling out the distributor was a lot easier! I got the basic engine assembled, but stripping the chrome from the many parts for the engine has slowed my progress substantially. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

Thanks Don! Please do follow along! I'm sorry that the janitor threw your model away.
