After priming the chassis, I gave it a quick look over and discovered many serious sinkholes in the frame. At this point, I don't care. I'm forging ahead with paint and assembly! I loosely covered the center of the chassis without burnishing it down and made a couple of quick passes with Testors Hemi Orange Lacquer. Not bad for a first time. More Superbird to come...

I got the MG-TC into two mist coats and a medium coat of Tamiya TS-9 British Green. I'll add wetter coats of paint later. More MG-TC to come...

Well, it was bound to happen. I broke the center screen. I was in the process of gluing it all back together when I realized that I was missing a small piece. I cut out a piece of photoetch screen and a piece of plain 0.020 styrene and superglued them together. When all was dry, I bent the piece slightly around the handle of a hobby knife. Fits pretty good! A little more sanding and filing and it should be perfect. Just need to paint it flat black. More Superbird to come...

Thanks Mike! It is amazing just how some of these old cars and their old parts really grated on us! Back them, we would just chick them away. Today, they are worth big bucks!

Yes, I do have them. They are on a sheet of Keith Marks decals that are coming from a friend.

Since the chrome plating on the rear bumper was flaking off, I decided to strip the rest of the plating and I found Petty Blue plastic under the chrome. I think this was the original plastic color on the body. I have dismantled the engine and will strip the chrome from the carbs and alternator. I may leave the valve covers plated. The rear suspension came off rather easily, but the front suspension was much more difficult and I broke off a couple of braces for the suspension. I used a couple pieces of styrene rod to replace them with. More Superbird to come...

Curtis, are you going for a stock look? I think the color palette is rather small for the Land Rover and I am not really sure what year vehicle the Land Rover is. I went with the British Green since I can see that color on a Land Rover in my mind. Or, white like the box art, minus the gaudy decals!

With everything else that I want to do, this kit came into my life and I want to build it...now! The old tag line from Land Rover was "The Best 4X4 By Far" and with its rugged good looks and a no nonsense drivetrain, it is! It is a far cry from what Land Rover has to offer today with a Sport Utility Vehicle. This basic, bare-bones 4X4 has no A/C, no power steering or brakes, no GPS, no leather seats, no auto leveling controls, no electronic wizardry at all, yet this 4X4 could go just about anywhere you point it towards. I am building the Monogram Land Rover kit #2279. The engine will be wired and who knows what other details I can add. I will paint the body with Tamiya TS-9 British Green with a light grey/off-white interior. The tires in the kit are Goodyear Tracker A-Ts and I had painted the tire letters with Tamiya XF-2 Flat White paint and a fine tip brush and some of the lettering was a bit messy. Having bought a new Gelly Roll pen earlier this week, I touchup the lettering. Some of the things about this kit has me scratching my head like why is there a wide spare tire sitting on the hood? Even with a tire that large and heavy, who'd want to pick it up and place it on the hood? More Land Rover to come...

Very nice! I built the same kit and made a few changes to mine including leaving the front windows off, raising the suspension, and using Pegasus wheels and tires.

Thanks for the tip, Gary! At this point, the wheels have been assembled and mounted to the chassis and I don't dare to do anything more to them since I fear that I'll make a mess out of them.

No chance what so ever! The wheels on the Morgan are of a smaller size. I would like to change those wheels, but when you are building box stock, you are very limited on the modifications.

With the wheels and tires all assembled, I slipped them onto the axles. A mockup with the body, hood and front grille. So far, so good! I painted a few parts this afternoon. The up top, boot, interior and floor pan and the spare tire holder. More to come...

This Superbird has been languishing on the shelf. Time for a rebuild! I kept on looking over the Superbird and things started to fall off...with a little pushing and shoving! The interior and glass are out. I found a set of Rallye wheels and wider tires. This is dust turning to dirt! I'll break this down and wash everything! More to come...

I got the chassis, suspension and the exhaust system detailed. No. This is not some sort of three wheel trike. It's the wheels and tires assembled together The instructions said to assemble the wheel halves together and stretch the tires over the wheels. That whole process seemed wonky and I sandwiched the tires between the wheels and clamped them together. More to come...
