GSL-XXV anyone looking forward to attending ?
Nitrozilla replied to randx0's topic in Contests and Shows
Flight and room are booked and I'm waiting for my registration verification. I'll be there the whole 4 days. This will be my first and I'm dying to see the International Model Car Museum. Specifically, Jim Keeler's Dodge Fever F/C. I need to reacquaint myself with folks I met at the San Jose NNL. Apparently there was only room for 8 or so new names in my antiquated brain pan. I have since regained my senses, but that will probably go out the door the second I walk into the Sheraton. To paraphrase Jungle Jim, "Model cars are faaaaarrr out !!!!!!! " -

Fantastic Tyrone. Everything looks right and pretty and shiny and mean. If you put this on ebay, I foresee a bidding war at the end. -
On Line Quick Build - AMT '65 Nova AWB A/FX Funny Car
Nitrozilla replied to tim boyd's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Excellent work on the Nova. And the Ivo Charger. And the 2 Snow Charger's. I liked a lot of stuff on your Fotki pages and learned some good tips as well. Bravo Tim, Bravo. -
Finally got to do some paint. I shot 4 coats of Tamiya TS-76 Mica Silver and she'll soon be dry enough to mask for the red. I also got the windshield shaped and fit. I need to bevel the inside edges so it will lay down a little lower. The windshield trim will hide the beveling, plus it gives me a rough surface to glue to the frame. I'll use Model Master Clear Parts Cement. The first pic is for Darryl. Not so neat now, huh?

So, THERE you are. This is a great project Art. I have a hard enough time getting plastic to cooperate, nonetheless brass. I just went through each update and none of them failed to amaze.

Wowtastic Darryl. The great thing about your stuff is, it looks like it could win at the track and at a model show. Sorry I'm late to the show.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Nitrozilla replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks for sharing your knowledge my friend. I had a sneaking suspicion that Mr. Teresi's name would come up eventually. I'm on board with the "zero defects" concept for parts prep. I'll keep in mind what BMF looks like with a defect under it. Might as well have a Circus Barker pointing to it with his cane and shouting, "Ladies and Gentlemen and children of all ages!!! May I point out the garbage under the Bare Metal Foil or Alclad, as it may be!!!!! " Only remaining question is, what's a good pressure to shoot Alclad at? -

Nitrozilla replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That Sir, is amazing. Often times in pictures, colors are misrepresented. However, I can actually tell that is is Polished Aluminum as opposed to Chrome. I just picked up some Alclad Chrome as my first airbrush project. I do have a question though. I also got the black basecoat, but I haven't seen anyone clear coat it before putting down the color. Is that from a cool tip you got from a fellow modeler or did you have a "Eureka!!" moment and decide to try it? No matter what, the result is beautiful. -
First things first, Tim, I screwed up grammatically speaking. I should have said, "Tim I couldn't agree with you more." Then left it at that. Next line should have been, "Gene, I really like that getting it right is so important to you." Those 2 statements should have been separated and addressed specifically to who I was addressing. At my skill level and experience, I would never think to contradict you. Our time in the hobby is the same, but your skill level far surpasses mine. I attended my first NNL at San Jose and it was a very humbling experience. It was also the thrill of a lifetime to meet some of the modelers I have idolized for so long. There are still some people on that list and your name is in capital letters, underlined and highlighted. I did the same thing when I met Roy Sorenson and asked if he had built a model I saw at the PA Three Rivers Automodelers show in 1992. He had no clue what I was talking about as I had confused someone else's with one of his builds. Sometimes my wiring gets crossed and something I have every good intention of saying gets lost between my brain and my mouth, or in this case, my brain and my fingers. If I goof again feel free to call me out and I will explain. Gene, Gene, Gene. I would have PM'd my apology to Tim, but I owe you one too. The overriding thought that runs through me concerning your build is that I know how much you are trying to save your vision of how you saw the car as you looked at that glue bomb in front of you. Your efforts to resurrect it are beyond commendable. I don't recall if you saw my "Big Kahuna" post. I had every intention of building it TOTALLY box stock. I should have called it, "The Hawaiian Murphymobile." Everything that could go wrong did go wrong on a new kit. I managed to salvage the chassis, but I'm on my 3rd 1/16th scale body. Long and short of this tune is, no matter what, hanging in is better than caving in. Oh, and I missed that last part about the door or whatev, 'cuz I wuz overcomed by fumezz. Here's a link to the Big Kahuna build. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=92125

Thanks Stephen. Glad you like it Dan, thank you too. I'm having a great time now that I'm back on it. Gene, My Man. No safety issues here. There is a dryer vent tube that easily snakes out my patio window. It even has a narrow exit so the door can be closed to within 2 inches. We can both breathe easy. DARRYL !!!!!!!!! Thanks for peeking in. My bad on the workplace. I'll mess it up a little before the next update. And that will be very soon, as I have the silver applied. I'm giving it plenty of time to dry before I mask and shoot the red on the hood, roof and trunk. The sides will be decals. I'm also going to try an experimental technique to give the underbody / innerbody a fiberglass look using a dry brushing sponge. No sweat if it doesn't come out right. I'll just paint it over with a real brush. It's close to being completed, although I still need to make the braces under the hood. Walk in the park. Pics soon.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Nitrozilla replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Chris, this is outstanding progress. I'm thrilled that you only had 2 minor issues out of all the pieces you shot. I know you already know this, but it never hurts to hit every piece with a blast of air before spraying. Not just for water, but for dust critters and Klingon's, er, cling-on's. I love the finish on the side panels. It reinforces what correcting a part can do for the whole build. No doubt you'll achieve the same results with the tank and strap. Have a great session today, then chill man, chill. -
Easy Distraction,,,,,Revell 1968 Charger RT

Here's my new plan. I'm gonna' track down an old Charlie Allen Dart 1:1. Then I'll have you restore it and build me a model of Charlie's car. Now if I can just put together 40 or 50 thousand dollars.............. -
Yesterday, during a spring cleaning flurry that came out of nowhere, I managed to shoot some primer. I see about 7 spots that need cleanup, otherwise, I'm a happy guy. The panel lines are just what I thought they would be. A perfect groove for paint seperation, but I'm going to need decal solvent to tuck the side graphics into those door panels. Oughta be fun. Also took a few shots of my new airbrush station w/ Badger compressor, Paasche H series siphon single action airbrush and a spray booth from Micro Mark. Even though I temporarily live in an apartment, for you safety afficianado's, the booth is vented to my patio and I will only do small parts using acrylics. All else, like the body, is still done outside. Enjoy the pics and thanks for looking.

Yeah, what the heck, we've got so many Master Builders here, what's one more thrown into the mix? Incredibly amazing awesome work going on there Jeff. Thanx for sharing and inspiring. And making hundreds jealous at the same time.

Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........
Nitrozilla replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I figured you couldn't resist the urge when you first mentioned the headrest. Whenever I get an urge to do something like that, I stop and figure, "If it can be done, it should be done, as long as the necessary parts and skill sets are in place." You qualify under, "All of the above." -
Ahhhhh, NUTZ. That's twice I've met Jim Keeler without knowing who he was. Thanks for the nod to the Gasser Ron. It was a great show and I was happy to meet you and be a part of such a terrific event. I'm going to Phoenix Desert Scale and GSL. Hopefully I'll see you again soon.

Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........
Nitrozilla replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Loving the cage work Tim. And, um, no problem with pink in the cow paint, otherwise it would have looked "udderly" redic....................Okay, I can't believe I went that low for a joke. I'm better than that. -
Actually got work done today on scribing the panel lines. Way, way back in the olden days they were required. If I had left them alone, if not after primer and paint, they certainly would disappear when the decals went on. This was done the old fashioned way using the back of a dull X-Xcto blade. I'm certain they'll need adjustment after the first coat of primer, so that's okay. As you can see in the pic of the front underbody, I had to be uber careful not to separate any pieces from the body. The hood badges were removed from the sides of the bulges. There's a decal for that. Tomorrow morning I'll putty the rear spoiler, then hopefully primer in the afternoon.
