  1. thanks!
  2. Thanks everyone! To answer a couple questions.... The paint is GM Engine Blue by Dupli Color. In person it's very very close to the color the "old" kit was molded in. I used this kit to start with and had to find a bunch of the "right" parts from various other kits and friends. Please see the link for more photos. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...e-beetle-clone/
  3. Thanks fella's!
  4. This is a clone, see the link to see what kit I started with to get the Beetle done. It's been a fun little road! It's not perfect and I knew it wouldn't be, but I wanted to put this truck on my shelf for a long time! I built it to look as much like the box art as possible and never had a single original part to start with. I want to thank Dave Fletcher for the kit to start with (Early Iron Issue) , Craig Turner for the Replicas and Miniatures Scuba gear and Dave Neighbors for the front rims. I also want to thank everyone who has helped me with hints or ideas along the way. Please see the link to see what was done, the photos are from "newest" to oldest. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...-models/fomoco/
  5. it's being restored actually. they are using some rust removal and it's working out good I guess. a movie coming out http://belvederedvd.com/ this was the last I read http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/legendary-...hop-127915.html
  6. Like the article says "somebody must have copied it and sent it around"....I just got an email about this 3-4 days ago. It's really interesting and cool that it's still that nice! Here's one for ya and this is really interesting, listen to everthing...one of a kind! http://growingbolder.com/media/technology/...oad-259598.html
  7. I looked at this image after my last reply. This is exactly what I was talking about. The car is no longer usable. I think a nice chop would have been cool, but it's so cut up , it's destroyed. Something that old really deserves better in my opinion. The damage along the rocker in front of the rear wheel probably came after building it like this.....these guys like to drive them that low for "show" and end up beating the heck out of them even more. I don't understand why it's cool to beat stuff up like that.
  8. AMEN brother! Rat rods were built by guys with little to no money, who WANTED a hot rod. They couldn't afford to build a real "fine" rod. The look that is replicated today is a fad and never existed, taken to extremes of how horrible or low buck you can go. Rat rods did exist and they were called that back in the day by the guys who had nice clean rods. "check out Johnny's rat rod, it's so ratty I bet rats come out of his tailpipe!".....it was JUST a saying! It was not an actual STYLE.... I think if a person wants to truly replicate a rat rod, it should be done with taste. Weathering, primer and some mixed parts with taste. Putting a set of pro touring wheels on a rusty bucket and decorating it with spikes , spider webs and barbed wire is NOT a rat rod of the OLD days.....that's a modern day misfit , reborn ...new fad called rat rods and it's a shame they are referred to as such because the guys that know what a real one is....are embarrassed to use the term because everyone automatically thinks a rat rod has dad's wrenches welded to everything. Have fun building what you like in scale! I think there is a certain art that comes from these things in the modeling world, but I don't believe it should be taken seriously in the 1:1 world...just my opinion.
  9. True Blue Pearl....depends on the lighting on how it's going to look.....and that's in person too. It looks MORE like the wheels in person (no camera flash)
  10. I thought ya had some kinda of "custom" water pump with them hoses. Don't feel bad though, I used to use phone wire for mine before I got on the internet and realized how out of scale they were. (still did even at first) The best size of wire to use is just a tad thicker than sewing thread. Try buying a prewired distributor from an after market company. Look and ask around where to buy them. When you get one in your hands, you will see how much smaller the wire is. I would recommend a place for you, but I don't hardly buy them because I got a bunch long time ago and don't always use them. Parts by Parks has some shawdy ones, but they will work and look decent. Pro Tech make a nice one with boot material, you buy the wire seperate. http://www.protechmodelparts.com/ Replicas and Miniatures has a really nice cap and has the crab style for some flatheads. You can see catalog here http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...casminiatureof/ This is the cap. Check around....there are many sources.
  11. Gary, that's a sweet looking ride! I know it's gonna be nice, keep it coming.
  12. This is very inspiring, thanks Hans!
  13. Cars inspire me to build models of what I like about them, music only blocks out the noise in the rest of the house. If I heard country (yuck) you won't see me building a horse.
  14. Hans, that's really cool of you to post these! I for one have never seen the inside or any photos of molds...keep them coming please!
  15. very nice and clean, lot's of detail very cool!
  16. when building rat rods, nothing is supposed to make sense....make it fit.
  17. Just wanted to say again how nice this came out, real cool and great color!
  18. not much of a gold fan? ok it's all preference. I built one of these a few years ago and I think everything fell together, nice kit! I think yours looks great! All the fasteners made me think about running around the front of the car to get the hood off lol...still cool, nice build!
  19. Sedan is looking sharp! The paint looks really cool! Bob does some nice work doesn't he
  20. no, send it to me so I can build another!
  21. I heard that back in the day , a lot of molds were recycled or sold in order to pay bills and keep new tools coming. Back then, the molds of cars that were nearly brand new were very expendable, unlike today to have a mold of an old car is rare and would never be recycled or thrown out. I heard Okey has other tools also, but no funding to have them restored. Johan was and is such a popular subject because of the crisp detailing in the bodies and the off the wall models made....where else can you get a '62 Chrysler 300? '60 Desoto Adventurer?....yeah some in resin today, but not the same quality. Though it would be cool to see a ton of JOHAN stuff on the shelves again, based on the facts and stories I doubt there is much I would want to buy. Right now Okey is offering just a handful of a handful that I would want and have already purchased. It is nice to see him at shows so you can buy tail lights, glass and other small parts plus them old cheater slicks! I wish it was back up to par, but I have accepted it's not and will just continue to look for those cars I like and have to pay the price unless I get lucky. (stuff I have heard came from people who knew the original owners) If I repeated anything already said, I didn't mean to.
  22. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=scale+conversion+calculator
  23. why not google the cars you want to get info on? you can find the wheelbase and all the schematics on almost any car if ya look hard enough. then you could scale it down with a scale calculator and yes this stuff is out there. (not a photo scanner like you want though)
  24. yeah kinda bummed me out, but I guess that's the way it is. have a good time and send some pics ok!
  25. I have to withdraw , unfortunately things came up and it's not in the cards for me this year. Please send links and photos and have a good time! Give Steve Kohler some heck for me ok!
