Diamond Reo Royale
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Brian you caught the changes . A cabover Pacer - now that would be cool ! After taking a pic with primer I noticed the droopy seam / gutter above the windshield. I fixed that issue. -
Old Peterbilt Rebuild Update 1-5-16

Gino - I like that color combination also. Is the base color Ivory ? Have you ever enlisted the help of a spray bottle for your decal applications ? Back many years ago (1990's) building 70's pro stocks I used slixx decals that would run the car length. Misting the body with water before decal was the only way I could fix any miss aligned error with those super thin decals. -

Clayton - This is my second one. My other one had a masonite pad and I wore it out from cutting strips of wood for my model rr . Gino - I hope I can pull it of somewhat close. Sam - I make too many decisions and all are the hardest way to do things I believe . Rich - Thank you Dennis, I was hoping you had one after seeing some of your projects. Jacobus - I was hoping that would help you out. Today's progress, got the cab to where I could give it a shot of primer and find all the hidden gremlins. Ok, you sharp eyed Cummin's guys - I did a couple of modifications to my engine. One real obvious the other maybe not. Thanks for looking in and commenting -

Wow, this is spectacular build up. I like your style and choice of modeling subjects. I agree with you on how hard it is to find pictures of this truck, it is a photo phantom for sure. -

Nice work on the engine ! It is a purty color - I am anxious to see what you have planned for the truck and chassis. I have been a fan of solder for years making piping and exhaust curves. -

I love this monster International. What did you thin/ reduce your Mr Surfacer with ? I use this stuff all the time for filling in imperfections and such but never used it as a base primer. -

Thanks guys for commenting More work on the cab today. I needed to get the cab toe-steps made. I brought in the Chopper again, these things are great for cutting multiple pieces the same size. all five pieces cut Assembled and in place Thanks for looking in - until next time -
AMT Kenworth W-900
Old Buckaroo replied to steve1970's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Beautiful truck, everything looks just perfect . This is one of the finest AMt's I have ever seen. Man, I really like this one. I have always wanted to paint a few trucks this color. -

Thanks guys, that axle about made me crazy. My handling of small parts is pretty poor anymore. I worked on the cab some more today, filled the old hatches and scribed new ones. First I made a styrene pattern and attached it with double sided scotch tape. Next I took the pinvise with a tip made from a "T-Pin" and scribed around it several times being very careful on the corners and around the filled areas. After I had a good scribe I followed up with the scribbing tool and widened the gap. A touch of liquid cement takes away the fuzz and cleans the groove. -

It has taken me more time to make a poseable front axle then I spent roughing out the cab. I did narrow the DR axle and to strengthen the seam I cut a paperclip up and CA'ed it in the axle channel . -

I agree, those linkage brackets are out of this world. Also that is the most realistic looking flexpipe I have ever seen other then the real stuff. Do you heat your p/e exhaust screens to remove the hardness out of them before rolling them ? -
My condolences for your family loss. That is a very nice paint set and I am sure you will put it to good use on one of those fabulous ship models you have.

Jacobus - No no one if following me , the rough work I can do pretty quick. It is the fine cleanup and detail that bogs me down. Now figuring out my wheelbase will take me forever. -

Cab update, sawed off the top replaced with a chunk of .060 styrene for height and shaping. Stole the grill from my "Reo 98" . Made the square headlight buckets with aid of a "chopper tool" , filed the top windshield post square. Pretty rough but it makes me think this will be a doable project. I will be using a AMT Diamond Reo kit for the frame so the cross members kinda resemble the real truck. -

This will be a good one, I almost went with a logger after seeing the pics of the old Kenworth you shared. Not sure of the era you are going for but the IH Mixer truck has those old cool looking military type tires which I have seen on many old trucks rotting away in the PNW.
