  1. Please don't use solvent glue! Use either 5 min epoxy, or some sort of white glue.....it'll save you a lot of grief!
  2. Been watching this one and it's coming along nicely! I owned a 1:1 '69 390 once upon a time, and of all the cars I've owned (many!) that was one of my favorites! Keep up the good work!
  3. I seem to remember using Rustoleum red oxide primer for my '67 Mustang chassis here.......I don't remember it coming out thick, but I did airbrush it on as I'm not fond of spray cans.
  4. Paul, those look fantastic!! While not my favorite Ford of the '60's, I'd take that green one!
  5. I emailed Don and Carol also Snake to give them updated bank info. Carol emailed me in return to tell me that for my order that was placed on July 1st (the last few days they were taking orders), mine should be in production by late winter 2018. I wrote back to let them know that there is absolutely NO HURRY as I've got enough to keep me busy for several lifetimes! BTW, I had almost forgotten what it was I ordered.............it was their '76 Cadillac Coupe DeVille kit, and a set of '60 Chevy Impala wheelcovers. Revell dropped the ball on their '60 Chevy kit by using '59 wheels which are very similar but do have a subtle difference.
  6. The Opel I took pics of is actually an Kadette "L" model. No kits of it out there unfortunately that I know of. Sometimes I wish there were more hours in the day, as I'd love to kitbash something like that! Too many other projects looming though.............
  7. Ken, no doubt that's what probably happening. I happened to notice the vintage section of models on eBay as that's what I cruise through the most. I don't know how eBay handles this 'cept to say that one may need to "certify' that they're not a "bot" or something? Seems like it's more than them trying to dupe folks into buying a fake auction............sounds more like an underhanded attempt at identity theft. Just a thought..........
  8. Well I'll be darned! I remember that auction (It was legit) as I BID on that one and lost by a few dollars. I did eventually get one nearly identical to the one linked (legit seller). They're different cars though as the one I got had a very minor chip in the roof (easily fixed) and the pics were slightly different. In fact, here's the auction I won here.
  9. This was another one offered just couple days ago Craig.........I remember your post about what happened. Sorry that happened to you! These guys are ruthless, and they keep on tryin'!
  10. Oh, I couldn't resist taking pics of those! I can't remember the last time I've been up close to an Opel Kadett GT! We had a next door neighbor back in the '70's that had one when I was in high school in Maryland. I'd like to scour around and see if anyone makes a resin of that. Airtrax maybe?? That's the first time I've EVER seen a Crosley outside of a magazine! The guy sitting behind the car was a very interesting fellow to talk to .........he had 10 of them all perfectly restored, and was showing me an album where he has one under restoration. Here's another interesting factoid about those Crosleys............. The engine block is actually stamped steel, not cast iron like every other block out there. See that shaft coming out of the generator? That's actually the shaft to turn the water pump! Crazy! This is the first I've been to this show, and here it's only 10 miles away from me-----I'll certainly be back next year!
  11. Hershey is only about 10 miles or so from where I live, so I went to check out the annual Tall Cedars MDA Car Show. The weather was practically perfect! Partly cloudy skies with temps in the mid 70's. Pretty much all types of cars were represented-------Street rods, to the newest hot cars on the road. Here are a few of my favorites............... You can check out the rest of the pics here.........enjoy!
  12. Bill, the '57 Buick I have I'm 99% sure that it came from R&R. Unfortunately, Ray passed away a few years ago, and last I heard his wife Ruth is not doing well these days. Steve Kohler sells Ray's models through Star Models-----I guess I could get in touch with him, but he may not know what Ray would have recommended.
  13. Sean, your pic didn't show up in your post.............here it is........ Very nice truck BTW! I right clicked on your pic, hit "copy image", and pasted it in the text box. Edit: Whoops! I didn't go to the next page where you posted! In the words of the late great Emily Litella............"NEVER MIND!"
  14. Mike that was a very interesting tutorial! We don't have that particular brand name here in the states.....would you know what the equivalent would be here? I'm also looking for something safe to strip resin. I've not tried this before as I've never had to strip resin in all my years of building, but I have a '57 Buick Century that could stand to be stripped of its paint. Another project I want to try someday to restore. Thoughts anyone?
  15. Chris that was I that made that post about eBay scams. Right here is the original post.... What I've been doing lately when I see a bogus auction is simply report it. Just for fun, I'll "watch" the auction and usually within a half hour or so ZAP!!.......it's gone! There was one bogus auction I was watching.......I think it was for the big scale Monogram '32 Ford that was being offered at a "real cheap" price with free shipping. Unfortunately, I had reported that one, but I saw later on that it was "sold". Oh well--------the poor sap has to find out the hard way that "if it sounds too good to be true, then it is".
  16. GM did some interesting styling tricks to their Colonnade cars in the '70's. For example take the 1976-77 Buick Regal and Century. Buick made the four door sedans with the stacked square headlights for that style, but the coupes came with the more conventional side-by-side headlights. The coupes came with either the "sloped" front end (Century), or the more upright front end for the Regal. Then there's the rooflines........for the coupes you had your choice of either the large window "sloped" roofline with thin pillars, or the more "formal" roofline that was offered only on the Regal. Century's offered either roofline. The other roofline was the sloped one with the small window, but I don't remember seeing Buicks offered with that although they may have been. Personally, I like the '76-'77 Regals the best, especially if they were offered in that beautiful metallic red that they came in back then. In fact, that particular car is on my "dream builds" list, along with other Colonnade cars------the '73 Grand Am, 1976-77 Olds Cutlass, 1975-76 Chevy Laguna. BTW, I'm seeing more and more of these cars at shows.........they may be underrated now, but I see their values only going up in the years to come.
  17. Jeremy, I've not built any of Flinstone's resins, but RC2 (or maybe Round 2) reissued the '61 Galaxie just a few years ago. They used the same bumpers as the Starliners IIRC, and they should be readily available for a reasonable cost. Hope this helps!
  18. John, you know how I feel about getting contours right----to the best of our ability! Rooflines to me are chief in needing to look correct, and you did a fantastic job! I remember five years ago when I contemplated building the '59 Chevy and I faced the same thing. The kit roof contours just were not right to me, and I had to decide either fix what was there, or replace the whole roof with something better. You know the rest of the story! And I have to admit, until you pointed out the differences, I'm not sure I would have noticed 'cept to say that something about the original '58 was not quite "right". The current reissue of the '57 Ford to my eyes is not quite correct to me either------especially in the shape of the A pillar dogleg. Rest assured if I ever get to building that one, I'm certainly fixing it! Keep up the fantastic work, and thanks for the update!
  19. Tim, thanks so much for the nice words! You're certainly an accomplished builder yourself, and likewise your builds have given me some ideas about stuff in the future! I haven't given up on the Shelby, but given the time of year it is, and my work schedule------sometimes working on it takes a back seat. One thing that does have me bogged down at the moment is getting proper brackets made to hang the thermactor pump (which this Shelby has) and the other ancillary accessories such as the power steering pump, and alternator. I have the power steering bracket issue about licked, but this particular bracket in the pic below.........I have nothing in the way of PE or anything from a kit that comes even close. Sooooo......it's scratchbuilding time once again------I'll come up with something! BTW, this is not the Green Hornet's engine, but another 428 that has the same basic setup. One more thing for you knowledgeable aftermarket guys out there..........I'll be looking for U-joints as before long I'll be working on the chassis, and rear suspension. Is there someone out there that makes U-joints in either resin or metal for instance? Thanks for any help fellas!
  20. I see a couple I think I'll get. I've never had the '53 Chevy kit even though it's not exactly one of my favorite '50's Chevy's. It brings back some childhood memories as I remember a neighbor who had one. IIRC, I think that one can be built stock. Also the Olds FE3-X showcar I happen to like MUCH better than the 442! Still hoping they'll slip a new '57 Ranchero in one of these fine days............
  21. I gotta say that is one fantastic recreation! Y'all know how I feel about the "stock" '58 Belvedere, but this came out terrific! Gotta love the "busted" windshield............no safety glass in 1958! Take a bow Martin!!
  22. Be careful using 5 min. epoxy for gauge lenses! Over time especially if the gauges have a white background, the epoxy can yellow making your gauges appear yellow as well.
  23. I've been with Fotki since 2004, and I can't think of any issues 'cept for the time they were moving their servers. During the move, the site was down a lot, but since then no difficulties unless they're down for some maintenance which is infrequent. $24 a year for unlimited linking of your pics, and I find them very user friendly. I had a PB account, but haven't used them for literally years as I never liked their layout, and those intrusive ads were too much to take.
  24. OK............now I see! Those were MPC versions of those kits I've been seeing! Either which way, now my curiosity is up and I'll have to get the AMT '83 as I've never bought that one in all these years!
