Round 2 August 2017 Product Spotlight
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Also, I want to add that most (if not all) AMT's kits I've seen of this Gen Camaro had T-Tops. The Revell '83 Camaro version that I can remember as I built one way back when it came out had a solid roof. That's why I was thinking it was a Revell............. -
Round 2 August 2017 Product Spotlight
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, forgive me! I'm not up on who reissues what, and there's nothing written that says a manufacturer can't "borrow" or buy another manufacturers tooling. Witness Johan and AMT back in the '70's. -
Round 2 August 2017 Product Spotlight
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I couldn't help but think the same thing as I finished watching the video. The '59 El Camino while it's good to see it back, I've already got two of them I've never built. One reissue I think from the '80's, and another reissue from RC2 when they were around. I do like the box art of this latest reissue, so for that alone I may get another, ditching the Plain Jane RC2 one. That Camaro is interesting and I can't help but wonder if that's the old Revell issue which was tooled without T-Tops. I may be biased, but that Gen Camaro to me looks its best with the T-Tops, on or off. -
Paint from Paintscratch.com? Any good?
MrObsessive replied to crowe-t's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Years ago, I was building this '55 Ford Victoria, and I used Paintscratch's products....................... I was pretty pleased with what I got as the color is exact for the '55's Regency Purple and white. Unfortunately, I never finished it as the bodywork I did in widening the roof (a modified '53 Lindberg Ford), I can see where it's showing through the paint now. Someday, I'll take it all apart and start over............however right now it's not on my priority list. Someone mentioned on this board years ago when I was building this that their paint doesn't take well to certain clearcoats. I remembered that, and IIRC I used Tamiya's acrylic clear for the purple. The white was just rubbed out and polished as it's a solid color and needs no clear. You might want to keep that in mind if you're going to order from them. -
Round 2 August 2017 Product Spotlight
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Although it's been done before as an annual, the '65 Barracuda would be a natural for Moebius to tool up for instance. The '75 Trans Am last saw its duty as an annual also, but was updated to a '76, '77', '78...etc. That would be a tough sell unfortunately, as there's the newly reissued '79 that's out. Different front and rear ends of course, but essentially the same car. -
Here's Round 2's latest video for what's coming (or already out) this month. Not a lot in the way of kits, but I'm sure will interest some.

Uggggh! I don't care what anyone says--------that second attempt was WOEFULLY WRONG! As you mentioned Rob, the first attempt should have never made it out of committee it was sooooo bad! These are pics of Revell's second attempt I took at the NNL East from 2007. At least they did get the wheelwell trim shape correct..........that's about it!

The colorful tabs was an add on/extension for Firefox. You'd have to check in their extensions section to see if they still offer it. They may not as IIRC, it was offered by a third party, and they may not have kept up to date with Firefox's latest and greatest upgrades. I liked it as it made for a nice contrast of what tabs were opened, and they also changed each time you would open up a new tab. Not the same 'ole boring monochromatic theme that Chrome has. It's one of the reasons I type my posts in a different color----- 1) I can see things much better, 2) it spruces up the page a bit from the same boring black font on a white screen.

UPDATED 8/11! What Would You Pay for a New 1/25 '64 Chev Nova SS?
MrObsessive replied to Snake45's topic in Diecast Corner
Actually, that Chevy II isn't bad at all! I don't care if it's diecast...........as long as it looks right. The bigger turnoffs are the shut lines for the opening doors and hood. That's one of the things I'd try to fix if I were to build it------I'd just epoxy them shut. No different than if it were a plastic kit as most of them are molded in shut anyway. -
One of the reasons I'm not a fan of Autumn-------it's what comes after! I don't look forward to another very snowy winter like the last two we had here in Central PA.

AMT Ferrari 250 GT SWB - Updated 09-09
MrObsessive replied to Bernard Kron's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice start on that Bernard! Yeah, I had one of these kits too, but the somewhat inaccurate shape put me off from building it, especially after I compared it to Italeri's version which I eventually built. They can be made to turn out quite nice with some work------what kills me the most about this kit however is when one turns up on eBay, and someone will try to pass it off as an Italeri. That bugs the heck out of me, and I'll make it a point to contact the seller to let them know it's NOT an Italeri kit! Keep up the good work! -
You can also press down on the mouse wheel to open up a new tab............at least most of them work that way. I've been doing that for some years now, as I can't always count on a particular browser to take me back where I left off. And yes, there are times I've used the back button here, and it just ain't cooperatin'! Speaking of tabs, I wish Chrome (my primary browser) had a "colorful" tabs extensions like they do in Firefox. I like the contrast of different tabs for different threads, but what they do have is very buggy and not user friendly. I'm a bit tired of the monochromatic look, and may soon switch back to Firefox.

The Beginnings Of Our Interstates
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just a few miles from me there IS a traffic light as the highway literally ENDS at an intersection. This is PA Rte. 283 which runs from East/West here in Central PA. The confusion comes in due to part of 283 being a state rd, and then you have to exit off a one lane ramp which puts you on to Interstate 283 which also ends after a few miles as it runs into Interstate Rte. 83. Confused yet?? State Rd Rte. 283 ends at what's known here as Eisenhower Blvd ironically, and right at the intersection is a Wendy's. At least two times that I know of, that Wendy's has been partially mowed down by tractor trailers motoring along at 70 MPH, only to find out a little too late that there's a traffic light and UH-OH-------------it's red! In recent years, this particular Wendy's has put up a "hill" ostensibly to stop trucks that run the red-light into the building. Don't know if it's worked because since they put up the hill, no trucks have run the red-light yet! -
I thought I'd post this vid I ran across on YouTube. It seems to have been filmed late in 1961 as there are some dates the narrator mentions that indicate that. What really got my attention was all the neat '50's, early '60's Detroit iron that you don't see anymore plying the roads. I also found myself naming each of the cars and model years (that I could see clearly) going down the roads. Ahhhh...........nostalgia-----long before vision blocking minivans and SUV's, when gas was cheap, and wide open spaces seemed endless. Neat video and as usual, it gave me some modeling ideas!

1968 Shelby Green Hornet-----Update! 8/4/18
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I talked to Bob at the '15 NNL East about doing a set for the '67-'68 Shelby, and had asked if he could include the Green Hornet emblems. I sent him pics of what was needed but haven't seen or heard any word about it. I can certainly understand though as Bob is quite busy, and has a lot of things going on. Either which way, I have the decal sheet from Keith Marks that has a couple of the markings that I need, so it's no biggie. -
1968 Shelby Green Hornet-----Update! 8/4/18
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Mike with my work schedule (10+ hours a day right now), and with some things I have to scratchbuild such as parts of the interior and particularly the rear suspension, it's gonna be awhile! -
Moebius F-100 issues
MrObsessive replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bob, I have a fix in mind for that roof on the F-100 as I too thought the crown of it wasn't quite right, as well as a wonky header. The door frames bug me too------something about the radii in the corners is off to my eyes. Alas, too many projects in mind, and not enough hours in the day. -
1968 Shelby Green Hornet-----Update! 8/4/18
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I can't say enough good things about these wheels! NO ONE has done a good set (save for GMP perhaps) since the Shelby kits have been intro'd for decades now. FINALLY, a set of accurate 10 spokes that don't need anything but proper painting and tires. I recommend these wheels with a 10+ rating for anyone that ever wants to do a 1967-'68 Shelby! -
That kit looks to be the Revell "Nickey" '67 Camaro, as it has that hood, and I can tell by the somewhat misshapen front end that's also on the original '67 tooling. As far as I know, the plastic is molded in white, so bleed through would not be a problem. Evan can answer for sure though!

A well stocked hobby shop should sell a polishing kit sold by Detail Master. If you can't find it in the hobby store, eBay certainly has sellers that have it in stock.
-
I want to add that to get those body panels all the same shade, I'd try as I described above (perhaps minus the hood), and add a couple more coats to hopefully even things out.
-
You want to make sure that you're painting your hood and body at the same time. I'd tape the hood in place on the body so it stays put, and then spray your paint per normal. Also, you'll want to get in the practice of starting your paint from front to back. In other words, start spraying away from the body, spray over your body, then stop once you've past the body. Never stop directly on the body! That's asking for trouble as you're bound to get some kind of splatter or blob right where you don't want it. It also might be a good idea to spray not only in a straight pattern, but also in a criss-cross sort of fashion------counting your strokes while you do this helps too. If you sprayed three times for instance in one direction, then you'll want to spray the same number of times in the other direction. As far as glossiness, that comes with practice using polishing cloths down the line. I'd practice on a junk body to get the hang of that before you try that on a project. Just like a real car however, you're going to polish each section out panel by panel. It's not a quick job, but once done you'll be glad you spent the time. Hope all this helps!
-
Ha! You got that right! Sometimes I want to fly through a particular step, but sure enough something comes along which forces me to slow down and take a second look!
-
I'll echo what Jeremy said-----some BMF or one of those paint pens can make those little details stand out. If you're ever stuck on a detail, don't hesitate to ask! Someone on here is bound to know the answer to whatever is a sticking point. The 'Vette is looking good! I didn't even paint mine many years ago when I started building. That wouldn't come till a good five years or so down the line!
-
Ludwig it's up to you, but somewhere in the deep, dark recesses of my hard disc, I have pics of someone who drew out the dimensions on the body (exactly where to cut and all) and replaced the roof with one off of the Revell '59 Chevy. It's similar to what I did with my '59 Chevy, except I used the roof off of the '60. If you'd like, I can post them here..........I can understand though if you don't want to tackle that as it can be a task!
