Re-releases
MrObsessive replied to Alix Bernard's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's one I wish would make a comeback. I have one now, but want another for "future plans". I hate to pay a premium price for one on the 'Bay only to cut it up. -
Randy's site came to mind after I posted, and I didn't see the SWB engine listed. When I see Harold next time, I'll put a bug in his ear to see if he'll consider making the carbs and intake for it. They shared engines----just the intake, carbs, and of course the linkage differed. I have Norm Veber's VERY nice engine for that car, but I don't think Norm produces it any longer 'cept on perhaps special request.
-
LOVE THOSE LITTLE DETAILS!! This is the first I've seen Harold's detail sets done up for this car.............Now my curiousity is up and I may spring for a set. Does he make the other type V-12-----the triple carb version for the 250 SWB and California? If so, next time I see him, I may order a set. I get to the MAMA club every once in a while, so that's an advantage.

I wouldn't give up all hope on this one Steve! If anyone would produce this Olds, my money would be on Moebius. It's got several things going for it, hardtop/sedan, Convertible, short wheelbase 88, or long wheelbase 98 (this one pictured I think is a 98) and even Richard Petty raced one back in '57. Time will tell! -
That to me has got to be the nicest one of these I've seen! This kit is not for the faint of heart to get right...........and it certainly takes some patience to get that stance correct which you've done to a T! I have to ask though............don't the square bezels around the headlights make that a '64? No matter though------it's gorgeous either which way!

New Plastic @ Hobby Lobby
MrObsessive replied to bandit1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A Hobby Lobby just opened up here only a few miles from where I live. I stopped in last weekend and saw the Torino artwork in 3D and said YIKES!! I hate to put down the effort of whoever was trying to do the box art, but I'm sorry------that is really BAD! It looks more like a caricature (or cartoon) of the actual car than it should. Who signed off on that?? Better to have used the actual 1:1 for the main art with the built up on the sides. -
AMT 1959 CHEVY EL CAMINO 1:25 KIT REVIEW
MrObsessive replied to hpiguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I had always hoped that Revell would do a '60 based on their hardtop, but with each passing year that becomes less and less likely. -
Here's Round 2's upcoming items for October. I see a bit of a surprise in there that I don't think many saw coming.

Someone on his end (or even possibly yours) is being the bottleneck on all of this. Unfortunately, if you can't get either side to budge, you might have to involve an attorney to light a fire under their rear ends.

Frank, I echo what Jim said! More than likely, the other driver was involved in another accident(s), and thus the dragging of the feet. Were the police called? I'd get an accident report from them and if his insurance company is listed on the report, well.........I'd be the kind of guy that would just drop them a line..........as in you sending the report as to what happened. From there, your insurance company can duke it out with his. Which begs the question.............did the other guy even HAVE insurance??

Board Going Down for Maintenance
MrObsessive replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
8:00 PM on a weekday night I'm well into snoozeland! Gotta get up early to be at work by 4:30 AM, but I do check the board while I'm eating something before work. Hopefully the maintenance cures the slowness of the board. I like to look at certain topics that interest me, but when the board is slow to load pages, I just close things out and try to catch up with it later. Time is too much of a premium for me in the morning! -
Harry Pristovnik's models
MrObsessive replied to Amy P's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Amy, the 1/8 scale black Pocher 1935 Mercedes you have pictured there is the kit I sold your Dad I believe back in '09. I was glad to see him turn it into a BEAUTIFUL masterpiece here on the board! I knew I would never get the time to build it, so it was great to see it go to a good home. -
Ok, from your pics Dave I see what you mean about those headlights! Looking at those hubcaps, they could stand to be a bit more "bowed out" and no so flat appearing. Still, they're better than the Monogram ones as those have too many "spokes" in 'em. If I ever build a plain stock '57 'Vette, I'd probably choose the AMT one as well------the Monogram had too many issues looking back body wise, and I can always tweak a hardtop out there to fit it. I've got spare lenses that might work to get rid of the buggy eyed appearance. To me the best thing about that kit is the windshield frame shape is 'bout perfect. The other renditions of this kit never get that '56-'62 frame shape quite right. Maxx, I can't remember if the kit comes with multiple engine options or not. Something tells me no, but I could be wrong.

History of Revell Cadillac Brougham kit
MrObsessive replied to Vietnam Vet67's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Interesting article! Back in the late '90's I did a near thorough remake of that Brougham. Practically every body panel had to be corrected in some form or fashion, and I even made a working "air" suspension for it. As luck would have it though I mishandled the body one day,.and it dropped on the floor breaking up into several pieces. I put the busted up body in a box, and never worked on it again. I gotta see if I can someday resurrect that one..........Of all the '50's Caddys, that one is my favorite and it's too bad that there was never a proper kit of a 1957-'58 Eldo Brougham. -
Check out this thread here about George......

Dennis that Lambo engine is beautiful! With all this talk of Lambo Countachs, I wonder if my next build should be that Fujimi EM kit!
-
I'm not usually into modern wheels on old cars, but those look great on it! Also, I love this year of Ford as styling was a bit cleaned up from the '60, and it would be the last year for fins on the full size models.

Decided to start building for the first time!
MrObsessive replied to BodyShopKid's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Jen, welcome to the forum! For what's your first model, I'm very impressed! That interior is looking immaculate! I wish my first model was that clean............it would be years before I could do that. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask------someone (or a bunch) will be able to help out! -
Jo-Han 1970 AMC Rebel Restoration Complete
MrObsessive replied to Drag Monster's topic in Model Cars
Now this is the way I like to see Rebels! While the red/white/blue paint scheme is interesting, I've always thought it a bit gaudy for this type/size of car, and your version is 'bout perfect! I also have a Rebel builtup I believe I've had close to 10 years, but haven't done a thing with it..........yours gives me some ideas. -
That was one of the reasons I backed off of AMT's kit when I wanted to do a super detailed '57 'Vette back in the early '00's------no separate hardtop. Instead I took some aspects of the AMT kit and applied it to the Monogram one which does have the top. Of course, some "stretching" and tweaking had to be done because of the two different scales, but the effort was worth it. Dave, I never noticed the AMT kit having headlights that are a scooch too big! I'll have to take a second look the next time I dig that kit up. I'd like to do another C1 'Vette someday.............the Harlow Curtice street SR-2 which is sometimes seen on the show circuit.

Which Countach is the better kit?
MrObsessive replied to JollySipper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Timothy, on the box it should denote either "EM" or "Enthusiast Model". Those are the ones that have the millions of parts. -
Which Countach is the better kit?
MrObsessive replied to JollySipper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I second what Bob said! I built one of the EM Countachs back in the '80's and while it was a challenge, the amount of detail was unlike anything I've seen before or since! I don't know what happened to that builtup, but I recently got in a trade another EM Countach kit (WITHOUT the wings and spoilers) and should make plans to build that sometime. Like I mentioned in another thread though...............get yourself a LOT of patience as you're going to need it! -
I don't get why GM would name one of their cars "The End"!

I had my eye doctor tell me last December that I was in the very beginning stages of a cataract in my right eye. For those of that might remember, that was the eye that had the detached retina, which they fixed with the balloon implant. They also tell me that there's nothing they can do with it till the cataract "blooms", and NOT to change the prescription in my glasses till the cataract is out. If I do it before, once the cataract is gone my prescription will more than likely change again. As it stands now, the vision in my right eye is VERY blurry to the point that I close my left eye, I literally have to put the words on a page within inches of my eye to read what it says. I don't go back to the Doctor until December........hopefully all this is taken care of then. Not to scare you Snake, but the one eye doctor said that having a large floater in my eye is what contributed to my retinal detachment. I can say that since I had the implant done, there's still that "gray area" in my lower right peripheral vision. It hasn't gotten any worse, but once the cataract is fully out I hope that goes away too. As far as glasses, I've been wearing 'em since the first grade, and that was over 50 years ago!

Fujimi Ferrari 288 GTO Variants?
MrObsessive replied to Dodge Driver's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Frank, if you get that 288, make sure you got your patience hat on! Those kits while very nice and detailed, can be fiddly in spots so you gotta take your time with them. Even just restoring the '63 356 Porsche I did recently tested my patience a bit as I had to refer back to the instructions as to how I did what, and in what sequence.
