New updated Model Car Garage site!
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Yeah, I'm in the middle of trying (for the umpteenth time) to compose a new topic on another device. I don't know what the issue is, but on my laptop I keep getting the 404 Error as well as on my phone. I'm on my desktop now, so hopefully this'll take. If not..........I give up. -
OK, once again I'm trying to start a new thread in the Car Aftermarket section, and I'm getting the dang 404 Error. If this message here posts, then there's a bug somewhere on the board where I can post comments in some sections and not others. Not sure what the problem is, but this is happening waaaaaaay too often for me. EDIT: OK, I see this one took so what's the difficulty when I try to start a topic in another section??? This is getting woefully annoying!

A.C. Moore?
MrObsessive replied to RichCostello's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's an A.C. Moore in my neck of the woods, and they do sell model kits there. There are some paints and glues, but it's the garden variety stuff from Testors and non of the esoteric stuff we on the lunatic fringe like. BUT! I've found some very interesting things in A.C. Moore that DO come in handy for detailing! Bead wire for instance which comes in different O.D. diameters, and is excellent for brake/fuel lines and such. I've seen (and I have) the type that has the dull finish, and also the type that's plated. Also they sell the wire that you would wrap a bouquet of flowers in for instance. I've found that to be great for certain detail items. They sell your different assortment of glass paint jars and such which is good for those times when you want to mix your own paint. Take a look around..........you're bound to find some kind of handy modeling item there! -
I'm still waiting for ONE OF THE KIT MAKERS to make a decent 1967-'68 convertible! I'm surprised that one's never been touched let alone the two door hardtop. It's one of the reasons I went through the trouble of making my own body when I wanted to build my Green Hornet. The way things are going, it looks like I'll have to do the same again when it comes time to do a '67-'68 convertible.
-
I tried to change one of these into something more sane looking back in the late '90's, only for the body to fall on the floor and break where I did the body work. I had it all planned out/fixed where the corrections need to be.........one of the biggest errors to me is the placement/shape of the roof and rear window. Yours looks REALLY good, and maybe I'll try to dig mine out from the pile and get working on it again someday.

Bring Out Your Dead... Long Stalled Models
MrObsessive replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Rex, NICE conversion on 'Lil Red! That's another one I'd like to do someday using that '66 roof and rear fenders as a starting point. -
Bring Out Your Dead... Long Stalled Models
MrObsessive replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, I got a couple I can show that are stalled (there are others, but these are 'recent')................ After not one but TWO warped hoods, I had almost given up on this one........... I have since FINALLY found an original hood in plastic (the one pictured IS warped) and now it's just a matter of getting the ambition to finish this one up. Also another stumbling block was the air cleaner. A shout out to Ron Hamilton who gave me an air cleaner to use a while back. The decals for that air cleaner will be a killer as they're a bit unique, and it's something I may either try to fudge or just let go. Other than that, repainting the hood, and getting some interior stuff done, getting the wheels done and mounted------she's all ready to go! This one I may have to totally strip the paint, and start all over. You can't see it here, but to me there's a very noticeable area right down the middle of the roof where you can see where I did the bodywork. I had originally used Future Floor Wax as a barrier, but I must not have put enough on, as the hot paint worked it's way through anyway. My plan is to strip it down to bare plastic after taking the glass out, fixing that bad area, recoat the body in a light primer, then seal the works with BIN Zinsser Sealer. That should take care of anymore ghosting troubles, and while I'm at it, do some fine tuning of the trim and interior bits. I MIGHT take this on after I finish the Shelby, but you know the saying "The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men". -
RULES FOR AUTO QUIZ - MUST READ FIRST
MrObsessive replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Thanks Michael------some don't seem to understand the obvious. Maybe you want to talk to the moderators and see about having this comment pinned? Might be a good idea so it's seen each time someone comes to this category. -
Here's one loaded with parts
MrObsessive replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll keep saying this as I truly believe it................3D printing IS the next frontier in the car model hobby IMO. It just keeps getting better and better, and there's no limit as to what can be created using that tech. -
You ain't kiddin' Steve! As many know, the AMT Road Runner's body shape has been a sore spot with me for many years. I simply got tired of the way it looked and did something about it. Obviously, this isn't for the faint of heart, and it may not be Brian's cup of tea, but it is an alternative to getting a CORRECT Road Runner if one cannot find a reasonably priced one out there. I've got some other details to correct on this one, but the main bugaboo.............those incorrect quarters and wheel wells is what I wanted to focus on.

Interesting, the few Cobra kits from US manufactures
MrObsessive replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
True......albeit the 1:1's engine was set back a bit further towards the middle than the standard Cobra. That's one of those little tidbits I discovered when I built that kit years ago. -
Modelhaus End Of Business Sale
MrObsessive replied to Againmikewins's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Same here Ron. I can think of maybe a couple things, but nothing at the moment which is a 'gotta have' item. I've stocked up so many parts and such over the years, I doubt I'll ever use them all. The moment I unload something however, that's when the 'I shoulda kept that' thought creeps in! -

I look no further than the recent story of "Lil Red'------the supercharged '67 Shelby Mustang everyone thought was long ago scrapped and no longer existed. Well guess what?? Here the car has been sitting in someone's field for the last 50 years when it was overlooked all this time. So yeah, one never knows what's out there till it's discovered, and I'm a big believer in optimism. And about Johan's bodies............while they were the standard bearer of making the most accurate bodies----long before CAD and other computer doodads, I can think of a few foibles on some of their kits that make you go, hmmmm.......... -
Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
MrObsessive replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Some pics were marked that way and some weren't. Either which way, the site's still under construction as there were some dead links. And yes! I loved those old Satco WWW's too! I really miss them and there are a couple cars I have that could use those. I want to add Steve that is a BEAUTIFUL model of one of my favorite '61 cars.......the Chrysler Newport and the ultimate 300G! I have a very restorable model of that one and that's one of the cars I'd love to use those Satco WW's on. -

Mike, I was on the tire website. You had to type in some letters to get into the site, and once there, you'll see a whole bunch of tires pictured------some of which are sold out. Now that could be the tires were gone as of the creation of the site due to the Modelhaus business closing, and that may be available again later. That I'm not sure of. -
Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
MrObsessive replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I was able to get into their site (had to key in some letters) and yeah I can see that there are already some items that are gone. One thing that would be a BIG help------it would be nice if they can somehow list the dimensions of each of the tire sets. I.D., O.D., that way one could check against any wheel sets that may already have and there'd be no guessing if a particular type of tires are going to work or not. I always got confused by the number 'types' that they used. Looking at what they have, I see a couple sets I might be interested in. Glad to see that they want to sell the remaining inventory! -
How did I miss this one?? VERY nice conversion work Del, and you're a man after my own heart! Nice and accurate four door sedan roofline, and it gets rid of AMT's not quite accurate hardtop roof.

Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
MrObsessive replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Just checked my email and I got the letter too. I'm just getting a "trial website" message (Squarespace?) for the time being, but as others have said, I can betcha that site will break records as far as those trying to get in when it's available. Can't think of anything at the moment I need as far as tires (well maybe a set of whitewall compact car tires), but that's nice that Don wants to focus on never seen before kits. It'll be interesting to see what he comes up with. I can think of a couple that I'd like to see him do! -

Yeah, that one I haven't seen on the streets here in a looooong time! -
Autoquiz 387 - Finshed
MrObsessive replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Yikes!! I'll take the '61 Cadillac next to it! As far as the car above, I knew it was something Sunbeamish.......just couldn't zero in exactly what it was. The wheelcovers and rear fenders are similar to the then current Tiger/Alpine. -

MrObsessive replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
We're in sore need of a really good Daytona coupe! Why that one's been overlooked in a 'regular' scale is beyond me. Of course, one could go high buck and get the MFH or HRM kits (I have one of the latter), but it sure would be nice if someone stepped up to the plate and made a nice detailed glue kit in 1/24-25 scale. I had heard rumors of years ago that Tamiya had plans for a super detailed 1/12 kit of this car. Anyone know anymore about that or was that wishful thinking out here on the 'net? Expensive that kit would be for sure, but I can 'bout guarantee that would be a VERY much wanted kit! -
69 Camaro Convertible resin up top
MrObsessive replied to mchalal's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
What you got was a 'hardtop' with a vinyl texture on it if it's the same one I'm thinking of. Hardly an uptop at all as it's too blocky and doesn't have the droops and sags that a convertible top should have. That's one of my pet peeves with the model maker's versions of a lot of convertible tops I see. They're too 'straight', and don't have the proper look especially when I'm looking at the model from a front ¾ view. It's all in one's perspective I guess, but that's one of the first things I notice when looking at a model's uptop------it's appearance compared to the 1:1. -
I'm surprised to see that much flash from a Fujimi kit! I have two of those from Tamiya and that would be woefully unacceptable! Just the same, I've never had much trouble putting together any of Fujimi's kits, and that was some of the tougher ones like their Enthusiasts Series versions. This should go together pretty easily without a lot of drama............just that flash can be a pain to get rid of, especially around tiny parts!
