My middle school son's school was put into lockdown as a high school student brought what was later determined to be an AirSoft gun to school. The city has a new school under construction which will include metal detectors and all the current safety measures. He's somewhat troubled by it but not as bad as I thought he would have been.

The current episodes are severely lacking but I'm still a fan. I know Duffman was only available with the environment and I've not seen Devil Homer since they first came out. I don't have a pick but I also went back and got MooMoo Homer

What did you get under the tree (model related)

I gave up years ago answering family/in-laws when asked what I want for Christmas as I truly believe they use that as a target what NOT to get me. Bought myself this off the InterWeb as I only saw one at a show and it was far more than I was looking to pay. Pic plagiarized from eBay -
Left over spiral sliced ham.....diced......mixed into mac-n-cheese using sharp white cheddar. My office clothes are so not gonna fix next week

My maternal grandparents worked their whole lives and saved a great deal. Due to my grandmother's health issues, they never traveled in retirement as planned and both ended up in a nursing home so the home reaped the benefits of my grandparents work. My parents continued to work including my mom worked the day she had her stroke. They never got to enjoy their retirement as planned (Mom passed 48 hours after her stroke) and Dad burned through his savings spending the last two years of his life in a nursing home due to dementia. I have a retirement plan but in the interim I'm buying my toys. I doubt either of my sons will want my stuff and I have a detailed list of what kits are where that they can easily search on line what they are worth and where to sell them. The bigger question will be what to do with all the minor league hockey bobbleheads and pucks..... -

What are you watching with your family today?
HomerS replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
On TV...nothing. Outside....to see which house on the street has the biggest pile of trash for the garage man tomorrow morning. The wife went into purge mode so I've already dropped half a dozen boxes at the thrift store and three boxes of blankets/towels to the animal shelter. The rest along with the boxes from Christmas are at the curb. FYI...if you get anything in a styrofoam cooler like Omaha steaks ships there products in and you won't be re-using them, shelters will take them and turn them into shelters for feral cats that have no protection from the cold. -
When you've got REALLY nothing to do...........
HomerS replied to MrObsessive's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I can't do that as the wife is an ER nurse. If I end up there, she'll list me as a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) and wheel me out into the parking to collect the life insurance. -
Good luck getting a contractor out on Christmas to board that up....

Cris Collinsworth. The only thing more annoying than his voice is his 'football knowledge'. He went to twp Super Bowls and was on the losing team both times....and a costly fumble in his first one. I'd rather hear commentary from a guy on the winning side about how to be successful

Amazon sells tires and I read that they had an agreement with Sears Auto Center to install them. The money I save on tires would be burned driving TWO HOURS each way to the closest Sears. To Sears, any $$ is good $$ but Amazon didn't really think that one through.....

Weekend No 2 taking pics w/ Santa for a dog rescue. We had a deaf lady and her son bring in their two dogs. One of the other volunteers knew minimal sign language and was able to communicate with her. In talking with one of the other volunteers, her daughter (about 13-14 years old) said their public school offers sign language as a foreign language....in middle school. Wow....it makes me realize how out of touch my son's school system (my alma mater) is. Both my boys learned sign language in their private pre-school. THAT is just one of the things I think we should be teaching instead of classes that are of no use unless they end up on a trivia game show!

I have a huge oak tree in the front yard. Oak leaves don't breakdown in a compost pile. They are GREAT for igniting the fire pit....burn hot and fast. At least the dry ones. Wet ones burn but throw off enough smoke (and not much flame) that SWAT could use for a diversion. Yes I learned that lesson the wrong way.

Mongolian Beef. Finicky 12 year old decided he didn't want any and the wife took some of the beef/pepper/onions before i put in the flavoring. Needless to say I have lunch for a couple days.

A few months ago, the pet food pantry I worked with shut down (due to lack of donations and a permanent home) but their sister program (dog rescue) continues on. Today they were doing pictures with Santa at PetSmart. They had some volunteers bail on them so I reached out and jumped in to be a photographer. I enjoy doing stuff like this and the wife goes into DEFCON 1 mode concerned I will come home with dog number 5. A lady came in with a decent sized dog with a muzzle in hand, a cone on his nose and a big sign on his back DO NOT PET. I'm thinking she brought CuJo in to get his picture with Santa but this thing may eat Santa. As she watched the dog interact with me and gained trust in me, I got the back story of his mistreatment/abuse before she rescued him so he has a serious distrust of people...anyone. She 'disarmed' the dog as Santa handed him a treat and I got down on the floor with him and he cautiously took them. You could still see the fear in his eyes as not knowing what was going to happen next. She got him to sit like an angel in front of Santa and I got an epic pic with Santa on the first try. Afterwards I snuck him a couple more treats so he would see not everyone he meets wants to harm him....he was the proverbial gentle giant. I felt bad watching get his nose cone back on as well as the warning sign on his back but I get it. Too many people, especially kids as well as other dogs that could trigger a bad memory for the big guy, even though he has a great life now.

Got a sunfaded 1966 promo from an auction a couple months missing the grille and both bumpers. It was cheap enough to hold while I look for the parts

Everytime the local news reports how low gas prices have dropped, Speedway must issue a 9-1-1 alert and they lead the area jacking prices. Gassed up the G8 on the way to work at $1.99/gallon (some areas were $2.03 and the highest $2.10. On the way home tonight, every station was $2.45/gallon.

The Dick's Sporting Goods continues......two days after they said they were issuing a refund, I get an e-mail the last item has shipped. When I check the tracking number it's been pushed out.....twice. I also ordered from Free Time Hobbies and Collectible DieCast. Free Times sends me an unwrapped kit (odd since they no longer has a brick-n-mortar store) and Collectible DieCast just dropped one off my order with no notice (website still shows it in stock). I understand things get missed or entered wrong when you things used to get ordered over the phone but when done on line, how can they mess that up?

The Bengals are as dysfunctional as a 'pro' team can be due to an owner who may be the real life inspiration for C Montgomery Burns from The Simpsons. If you remember or are into 80's rock.....you'll understand the slam on the shirt

I like it....at least in the pic. I didn't think I would like the four door version of the Jeep until I saw one when they came out (and even worse rented one for a weekend from Enterprise).

Great customer service continues......(Sarcasm) I ordered three things from Dicks Sporting Goods on their Black Friday sale of 25% off and free shipping. I wanted a fourth item (Pops character of the Vegas goalie) but it was out of stock so I wasn't able to add it. I got my confirmation immediately and then one by one confirmation it was shipped.....well, for two of them. They arrived today so I did the live chat asking about the third one. The operator said is wasn't in stock even though I pointed out that it was STILL in stock on their website. Yeah he didn't give a poop and was issuing a credit.....but i can re-order when it's back in stock. I asked if they would honor the sale and he said probably not. This quality service was one of the nails in TRU's coffin. One of my last trips to a store a manager dipped the conversation with the cashier when she asked if I found everything and I said 'no'. I told him there were no hockey goalies in the McFarlane series (there were two in that issue of six) and he was so cocky that he knew they had a case in the warehouse. I said if you have a case, I will buy all six characters to get those two! He came back ten minutes later empty handed. My final dealing with them was ordering two things from their website. Got the BS e-mails they were coming, shipping soon, in stock soon, etc and finally "yeah we're canceling your order but check in our stores". Wait....you don't have it in the warehouse so I should drive around to their stores when they should be able to see on line if they have it in their OWN stock?? I never set foot in their store again...not even when they had their closeout. Too many other places want the business.

I was much younger in this pic...... My brother in law put this on his Facebook page when friends were hounding him for pictures of him when he was a kid. He is extra "fluffy" so I don't think he appreciated my comment "I didn't realize you were such a great swimmer"

Round eye steak marinated all day in Brazilian Steakhouse flavoring (used lime juice instead of red wine vinegar). It may be the last decent weather (50's and no rain/wind) so had to grill out (charcoal) one last time. Cheezy Cheddar potatoes as a side.
