  1. Both still in shrink wrap. Haven't decided if I'm building them or parting with them.....
  2. Geese are not the brightest of creatures. I was a Facility Manager for an L shaped building with a pond out back. The pond faced the highway so little intimidated them. The building had a problem with them strolling up and dropping tootsie rolls on the patio for the cafe. One day I showed up and there was a iron decorative fence w/ gate around the seating area...less than three feet high. The building manager said that it has stopped the geese from strolling up on the bricked area. They would come up and stick their head through the rails and never figured out that they could still fly on to the patio or do a short burst and go over the railing.
  3. My sister-in-law told me years ago that I'm hard to buy for because if there is something I want, I go get it. I said that is because I give people the exact thing I want, including texting a pic of the item, even the price and yet it doesn't come to fruition!! Latest example, last year Costco had a pearl green 1/18 Maisto Nissan GT-R (Skyline) in their Christmas merch....$14.99. The wife said our oldest son was trying to figure out what to give me and knowing his girlfriend's family had a Costco membership, I asked for that. She gave the info to them. It was a limited edition so I gave them this info when the cases were put out and explained it needed to be sooner than later. Weeks later, the wife informed me that this was redirected to her family to get me the gift exchange at her family. I told her the 1% that I clinged to went to 0.00% right then and there. Months later at the gift exchange, let's just leave it I didn't get the car!!!
  4. TRU was their own worst enemy as well: Hot wheels (locally) were $1.09-$1.19 but more importantly several cases behind the WalMarts in the area so most of the stuff was peg warmers I collected McFarlane NHL goalies and they rarely made it to the sales floor. One of my last instances when asked if I found everything today, I answered no and said the goalies were gone. A young cocky manager came over and basically told me I didn't look for them in the right place. I said if you have that issue in the back still in the case, I will buy the box of six (only one was the goalie). He came up five minutes later....empty handed. Shelves frequently looked like they haven't been straightened in weeks....and the store only opened five minutes ago. The worst was the check out. Six lines, one open and five customers deep. When you did make it to the counter came the barrage of questions...need batteries, have frequent shopper card, want to sign up, want a TRU credit card, want to donate to....., etc. Can you scan it so I can pay and I go. (I LOVE the U scan check outs!!) Babies R Us I was in the management office years ago and we had one in the complex. They were far better organized except every time the fire department for came through for routine inspections they were bad for stacking stuff to the deck in the warehouse which was above the sprinkler system.
  5. So would draft beer and hot wings act as a turbo?
  6. Reminds me of one of my first cars.....FrankenMerc....however the Comet was made of other dead Mavericks and Comets
  7. And this gem from Dodge.....
  8. And the Flav-A-Flav sized grill lettering
  9. Not the embarrassment the Daewoo built LeMans (88-93) https://www.chevrolet.com/upcoming-vehicles/all-new-blazer
  10. The Cincinnati Zoo euthanized it's last white tiger today due advanced age medical issues. Their life expectancy is 15-20 years but she was 22. The zoo had a tremendously successful breeding cat program but it seems to have fallen from the spotlight due to the premature birth of a hippo a year ago and now the zoo is making a big $150M expansion to the gorilla area and building a parking garage.
  11. Last report is they will all be closed by the end of June.
  12. Reba I'd leave the wife and kids on Christmas morning for her.
  13. Second wave? One of the local stores has only the Danica Fusions but another one was fully stocked including a few that weren't out several weeks ago Lindberg Dodge D700 cab only $15.99 Lindberg Dodge D700 w/chrome tanker $24.99
  14. 1969 De Tomaso Mangusta / Corvette! Plagiarized from the Ohio Concours facebook page.....This unique all original car was purchased from GM Design in 1969, special built for Bill Mitchell, VP of Design. All had Ford engines but Bill wanted a Corvette engine so Chevrolet R&D built one specifically for this car. The engine is an LT-1 with a 350 crankshaft. The whole car weighs just 2978 pounds. The owner said he puts a couple thousand miles on it every year
  15. I agree that 'customer service' is not part of the franchise training at Hobby Town. The last time I was in the local store, I was looking for 'another modeling magazine' and asked for it when I went to check out with other items. The young guy behind the counter said 'it's over there....somewhere'. I said I was unable to find it. He had no interest in going over to check (I was the only customer in the store and there was another employee) so he missed that sale and I haven't gone out of my way to go back. A couple years ago (when I traveled for business) I stopped in a KY store and the clerk was either board or as a fat, middle aged guy I was they stereo-typical thief as he followed me around the entire store. Needless to say I didn't make a purchase being stalked.
  16. The Buick was the grail in that auction. These were in the same lot
  17. My mother died unexpectedly of a stroke and my cousin asked for a 'memento' of her aunt but specifically asked for jewelry. Mom never really wore jewelry as she was a beautician! She probably would have pawned it on the way home. I haven't spoken with any of mom's family since she passed nine years ago as I asked him to call my Dad just to say hi as this was hitting him HARD and NOT A ONE of them did! Dad died a year ago. In spite of being local, NONE of three brothers bothered to come to the nursing home in the last 30 hours of his life when Hospice said this was it. It didn't stop the one from asking me after the services not to sell the antique sewing machine table that was their grandfathers as he would take it. I haven't spoken with any of them in a year either.
  18. 1958 Buick and 1958 Ford Fairlane (although from the front only auction pic and not wearing my glass, I thought it was a Thunderbird) The Buick is only missing the drivers side fender top chrome The Ford is missing the convertible boot and tail lights (of course I find these AFTER Modelhaus closes) Just picked them up so still debating on leave as-is or restore them
  19. Sadly we are losing these heroes and those of us of today never got to thank them for what they did. I had a great uncle who had a purple heat and silver star and the father of a good friend that had a bronze star (both from WWII) and like you, I never knew until they passed. When asked their respectives kids, they both answered almost verbatum 'they did what they had to do and never talked about it'. Humble heroes.....
  20. When I had to wear a tie for going into the office, I bought Jerry Garcia ties. I haven't had to wear them in several years but just can't pull the trigger to let them go. My dad passed away a year ago and he is buried wearing a tie with Volkswagon Beetles on it. (He had several through the years) I'm a die hard hockey fan. I was in Vegas when the Golden Knights clinched their spot in the Stanley Cup. I sent a pic of the moment to the wife and our two sons, but the wife texted back 'are all those people standing outside the stadium watching an away game?' I reminded her 'if i took/sent this pic, I AM ONE of those people!!' Yeah, she went silent after that. We used to have a team in the now defunct IHL (team lives on in the ECHL). I have pucks from all the AHL, IHL and NHL teams.....and various other minor league teams (most of them have folded). Modeling time has been less and less as I have four rescue dogs. I volunteer at the local pet food pantry for monthly distribution as well as a 'go to' when they get large (several thousands of pounds) donations of pet food to transport, mark it and put it away. I hit local thrift stores and garage/rummage sales for pet crates, bath towels and other things rural shelter on shoestring budgets can use. If I'm going to an out of town model car show, I take a couple boxes of donations to a nearby animal shelter/rescue. (it's also how I ended up with dog #4 as he was a face I couldn't walk away from)
  21. Just one of the local thrift stores has a Hot Wheels/Matchbox dump bin. Usually they pull out the choice pieces and overprice them or throw a bunch of them in a bag so the one you have to spend several dollars for that one you want. And very rarely, one get under the radar.......(complete and restorable for $0.25)
  22. Seriously???? I haven't been to Vegas in ten years (for work) and the last time we were there, they swapped everyone's luggage handle to check for drugs. As I'm unpacking my suitcase this afternoon I find this! I'm sure it's related to marijuana being legal in Vegas but cannot be transported out of the state. Next time, I'm packaging the dirty laundry like a bundle (skidmark side out) like a bundle.
  23. Took the day off work to go to Wright Patterson AFB museum for the opening ceremony of the unveiling of the 15 plus year restoration of the Memphis Belle. Gates opened two hours early there was to be a fly in of three B-17, six P-51 Mustangs and three WWII era trainer aircraft. All were to land and be here until late Friday afternoon (except one of the Mustangs). A quick shower moved in shortly before the gates opened and delayed the fly in two hours. More rains pushed it back further and further until eventually 11a BUT, at least according to the staff, the planes were not permitted to land on the military runways due to the wet pavement. The landings would now only be a fly over and return to the airport where a couple of them are otherwise housed NW of Dayton. All of the B-17's participated but only five other planes did. The flyover was three passes (two planes peeled off after the first pass, the other three smaller ones and a B-17 after the second pass) with only the two authentic ones (the third one was from the movie) flying over on the last pass. The sound of the radial engine was impressive but this was a far from what i was hoping to see. I can't make the flyout Friday afternoon.
  24. Same automotive stock here. There were some dinosaur kits and ship models as well, but didn't look at the specifics
  25. I used to be a facility manager and the account (health insurance account ironically) I was on, they stressed was no phone use while driving unless using a hands free device. They wouldn't pay for one even when pointed out part of my territory included states with laws prohibiting cellphone use without one. I had one for my personal phone but refused to answer the work cell on the road.
