  1. I was away too Harry so I did not know that you were gone as well. I spent what seemed like two days on ferries just so I could attend a hockey tournament and get hammered with rubber, got knocked out after two games and will probably miss at least two weeks. I did meet some nice fellows from Colorado though.
  2. I was still dozing in bed when my wife came in and said that 'Someone has just declared war on the United States!' As a Canadian I don't think that I have the right to make further comment except to say that over sixty cars were never picked up at Uncle Norm's offices in Newark.
  3. I think it is a matter of out-look. I view these get-togethers as a party where we get to display our handy-work for one another and at the end of the day some folks wander around and pick some models that they feel deserve special mention and a little trophy to mark the occasion. Nothing to live or die on or get all bent out of shape about.
  4. Heavy card base on foam, fine black ballast glued on and various over-sprays of blues and greys until I got the effect (old and worn and degraded by weather) that I wanted. Made for 40K battlefield terrain and is 1 foot by 2 foot.
  5. A diorama is a difficult project to complete and you have done well on a first attempt. I will mention a few things to keep in mind for next time. Building a diorama is like freezing a point in time and we have to pay attention to the way things look in reality. 1/24 scale figures are large in the figure modelling world so you will want to use the most detailed ones that you can find, poor or lack of detail will detract from the rest of the composition. You will also have to spend as much time on them as on detailing the car etc. Another thing to watch for is the effect of gravity, how things 'hang' and sit. Different materials and finishes reflect light differently, as well the texture of the material must be considered. The main thing is the forest and trees problem, don't get bogged down with details of the trees and forget how the forest is supposed to look, all the detail in the world won't save a model that defies the laws of physics or anatomy (even in Sci-Fi) or if the major construction or finish is shall we say, less than perfect. Yes, I have a major, unfinished diorama that I have kept to remind me to make sure of my assumptions, three-quarters of the way through the project when I realized my mistake and the correction just is not good enough! I hope this will help you on your next project, keep slugging!
  6. Exactly as advertized, smooooth!
  7. I know a guy that paid $40,000 for a collection. Some years later he had to leave work for a year at the same time he was having a new house built so had to do some liquidating. He grouped four or five cars together to make $60,000 packages. This was about five years ago and he had no trouble getting his price. House and time off work covered, no problem!
  8. Bummer! Glad you made it out OK. As far as I know all my inlaws in New England made it out with only power outages and damp feet.
  9. Nice conversion. Would I be right in assuming the same fate befell this as the F88, too much competition for the Corvette?
  10. Neither, it is Enos' (because you asked!) .
  11. Call me crazy but I always liked the look of the Futura, I often wonder how it would have sold had it been produced. Waiting to see how this turns out.
  12. Update, resprayed the roof gold, nothing bad has shown up yet, knock on wood (reaches up and pats his head)!
  13. When I was a game warden I had to fill out a log for every minute of the day, don't miss that at all! When I was driving truck things got better, only had to fill out a pre-trip inspection report, don't miss that either! When I do sell the odd build it is better that I am happy with the cash and do not know how it relates to an hourly break-down. But to each his own. I met a fellow the other day who makes ship models and he logs the entire build in a binder, with his research, construction photos, any changes he made if it started as a kit, the whole ball of wax, actually very impressive.
  14. i am retired, I don't set an alarm or wear a watch or own a cell-phone, so no keeping logs either.
  15. The old man taught me to drive the '52 chev on logging roads while we were hunting so he could get a better look-see. Graduated to a Jeep Wagoneer which I got my licence on. My first Car? '52 bug, beat the bejeepers out of it on those logging roads!
  16. Very nicely done. I am not a fan of the wheels but on this car they look right!
  17. I only remember the Duesy phaeton. As I recall it came with chrome and different coloured plastic parts.
  18. Yep, it is on the Sechelt Peninsula north west of Vancouver, 'Beachcombers' country!
  19. Congratuations! You will be amazed on how little sleep you can function on.
  20. Nice work on replicating the wooden deck. In future I would suggest using basswood, it has a much finer grain. As an aside, British carriers of the period had armoured flight decks but they had reduced aircraft stowage partly I think because of the added weight of the armour but I think there were other reasons as well.
