I'm able to buy Model Cars mag at a hobby shop I often visit, and it works for me.

How did we manage to survive?
High octane replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I still drive an old car during the summer months and I love it. Yes, I do have to LOOK where I'm going and I don't have 50 knobs and buttons on my dashboard either. I can even work on the engine if I choose to just like I did in the 60's & 70's. -
It is gorgeous Harry, and I might have one of those myself.

You can't justify the price of a new Danbury or Franklin Mint car? You couldn't build those cars for less could you, with all the working features and fine detailing?

I had talked to Bill Lastovich from Revell before he had passed away, and he gave indications that we would have a Ranchero kit. I know it's gonna happen, trust me. How soon, is another story.

We have that law of no hand held cell phone and driving. What a JOKE, and what's the use of passing laws when they're not enforced??? A lot of our traffic laws are only obeyed by people who want to obey them, the rest of the drivers couldn't care less what the speed limit is, whether to stop at the stop sign, use their turn signals, etc. etc. etc.

Trophies, plaques and medals/ribbons
High octane replied to Nacho Z's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used to compete fro trophies, ribbons, & plaques in my younger years and have a box full of trophies (dust collectors) that are in the crawl space, and I haven't seen them probably for 20 years. I currently and have been displaying my recent builds at club meetings and at NNLs and have a lot of fun. -
While it didn't irk me, it made me very sad as I attended a wake for my neighbor's son today. He was only 23 years of age and I can't imagine how my neighbors feel at the moment. It's gotta be a very tough loss.

That is beautiful Harry, really nice. I sometimes see Danbury MInts for sale at local swap meets or at a hobby shop. They're still around, but it's not like the good-old-days which I miss and still wish that I would've bought more when I had the chance. Oh well, life goes on.

NNL North 2016, Bloomington, Minnesota
High octane replied to Jim_Kampmann's topic in Contests and Shows
Sure wish I could make that show, but I have a lot on my plate in the next several months and I don't like sitting or driving for long trips anymore. I didn't mind driving lots of miles when I was younger, but that was awhile ago. -
Parts count for vintage kits
High octane replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some modelers log all their hours that they put into building a model car kit, while others count the number of parts in a kit. Others keep spread sheets on the number of un built kits they have, or even inventory their parts boxes. Me, I don't have time for that kind of stuff. -
Very nice Stephen as I have the '59 & '60 Lincoln Continental convertible kits in my "stash." Hopefully someday I'll get around to building the '60 as the '59 was my very first AMT kit and I'm savin' it as is. I do have a few Modelhaus Olds kits and hope to build them someday also.

I was over at my brother-in-laws house today for Easter and he handed me a mint '66 Cadillac coupe DeVille kit by Hasegawa. I was surprised as I was lookin' for one awhile back and then gave up on that notion. Guess I'll be buildin' a Caddy kit in the near future.

Those custom vans are really cool, as my brother-in-law used to build them back in the early 80's.

Hmmmm, while I usually don't build models cars later than the early 70's, that 2017 looks great and may be a good "slump buster" as well. Here's a couple of photos that I shot at the Chicago Auto Show last month.

A few years ago I had a lot of fun building this snap kit. I Googled the Batmobile website often for references and used 'bout 18 different colors to detail this kit. I thoroughly enjoyed building it and it looks great in my display case along with my other builds.

A dumpster, that's pushin' it a bit too much.

That IS cool!!!

And here I had thought that THIS was the Gold Rush..................................

A couple of years ago I picked up one from MODELHAUS, like I've said before and why others didn't get one is beyond me. I also picked up a built-up '68 Coronet last year in really nice condition, and another modeler has offered to buy it from me. You could want the moon from the model companies, but don't bet that you're gonna get it.

The Ranchero by Revell is a "given," trust me. Of course it could be awhile before it reaches the hobby shop shelves, like a year or two. In the meantime I have plenty of kits and projects to build rather than dwell on a pickup truck.

set of chrome Cragars, 4, aftermarket
High octane replied to fiatboy's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Those are the ones I saw Greg, and also a set with Keystones. Kinda pricey for a set of wheels and tires in my book. -
VERY nice job on that Dodge Marc, as I just love dem Mopars!
