Ebay dreamers
High octane replied to 1959scudetto's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Haven't finished a kit in 20 years? I have a friend who hasn't finished a model kit in 'bout 48 years. Yet he still buys kits and occasionally works on them. -
That's bad news as my father died at the age of 57 also. It became one of my goals in life is to surpass the age of 57, as well as retire before I expire.

Altered wheelbase...why?
High octane replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Drag racing in the mid 60's to early 70's was really exciting and one could see a lot of new innovations at the track. It was also fun as many guys could take their daily driver or grandma's car and make a few passes down the strip. Today drag racing is boring with all the cookie cutter/tech cars. I know someone who recently had a AA/FD and had a million bucks into the car, tractor, trailer, etc. Seems like today it's all about MONEY and not racing, sort of like the other sports we have today also. -
The "power bulge hood" was on the '68 & '69 Dodge Coronets, both on the Bees and the R/Ts.

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
High octane replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While I most always work with virgin plastic, because of the subject matter I picked up this glue bomb last month at a swap meet. I've taken it apart and I'll be sending the bumpers to be replated next month. I have a lot (21) holes to fill, and this will be an on going project as I may be starting another kit and this Elky may be a tow vehicle??? -
I've been a big fan of Clive Cussler for many years now and have read many of his books. I used to read a lot of novels when I first retired, but then remembered that I have a lot of model kits to build. I usually read novels when I go on vacation and have a new Cussler novel (Havana Storm) for the next upcoming trip. When I'm at the airport shops looking for a novel to read on the plane, Cussler is right on the top of my list along with Patterson.

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
High octane replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I originally wanted one of these Comet kits when they come out, however I really like the Mopar offerings that will be comin' out even more. Guess I'll pass on the Mercury. -
Yes, I saw that on the news last night. That flood must be awful for the people who live there, and also a life changing experience.

Here's the '69 El Camino that I had built in the early 80's and it did come with the Soapbox Derby car as well. I don't have a clue as to what happened to the derby car.

Harry, I just loved the accents that the Southern girls have when I visited in South Carolina. That Southern drawl is quite a bit different than you hear in the Midwest.

When/What do you clear coat?
High octane replied to Eloveless's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a rule I use gray primer if the color coats will be black or any kind of silver color. White primer for everything else as the white will have a tendency to make the colors "pop." -
The newest model year in your stash
High octane replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Without checkin' the "stash" probably the '71 Charger kit. -
Nice project Nie, and I would love to get a '67 or '68 Ferrari F-1 kit.

Anyone use Alclad?
High octane replied to Mike77's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe Alclad comes in a spray can also. I know that Spas-Stix does and you can get it where they sell R/C cars. I've tried Spaz-Stix Mirror Chrome a few times and I like it a lot. -
Moebius ' 65 Belvedere, putt, putt, . . . . done!
High octane replied to smellyfatdude's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks like a great start, and nice color choice as well. I've sprayed many parts inside the garbage can inside the house. When my wife asks if I'd been painting, I just say I "might have" and never incriminating myself. I just love dem Mopars! -
I learned a few of those things in school as we had a home economics class, woodworking, they taught me about money and how to make change, I learned about cooking and the outdoors in Boy Scouts, and I learned mechanical things from my dad and also on my own as my dad wasn't into cars at all, except for transportation. I thought that the teachers I had in the Chicago Public School System back in the 50's were pretty good.

I have to agree with you on the last paragraph as many young people today seem "lost" when it comes to the things you've mentioned. I've also heard of older people in the same boat with no clue how to start a dish washer, clothes washer, dryer, writing a check, etc. NO CLUE that they can get run over by a car while crossing the street, walking through a parking lot, because they're staring at their smart phone(I?). Really??? I'm a dinosaur and I reluctantly know that we're in the 21 century, but I'm having thoughts about people that can't do the basic things in life these days. Women who want to get married and don't know how to cook? Maybe they want to marry chefs. The basic of life are not rocket science by no means, and I'm wondering what the kids are learning in school these days?

I guess you could say that I'm a white socks fan, as I wear them almost every day.
